  1. The 440 and 500 indy engines are 2 of the most reliable snowmachine engines ever built. They will go forever with little maintenance and they are very light sleds. The 550's are great as well, so long as they're not in the Edge chassis (02' to '06 i believe). The liquid 600's are awesome motors, but an older 440 or 500 will be way lighter and much more manageable for ice fishing
  2. I have a buddy in Cochrane who has been out fishing on good ice within the past week, and it's been quite cold the past couple days, so you shouldnt have a hard time finding good ice
  3. Great splake! I'd imagine the local lakes here are getting good ice quick, with cold temps and zero snow. I usually do a panfry or butterfly and bake method for splake, but the plank looks friggin' deadly!
  4. 32" st. Croix MH casting rod is an excellent choice
  5. Wow, that is a great little rig for sure, but for $1500 I could pick up a great permanent shack. If it's so cold that I have to be cooped up in a shack (which drives me nuts) I probably won't want to move much anyway!
  6. That hike ain't fun in June, I bet it'd be a blast in mid-February! You break trail lol
  7. 550's are infamous only for their track-record on the Edge chassis, due to exhaust placement. The Indy and newer IQ chassis 550's are awesome sleds. The new Voyager 550's are absolutely killer utility sleds!
  8. Depends on how many times i roll it
  9. Abu's do not make casting reels like they used to.
  10. '01 Polaris 550 Sport Touring. Over 12 000 km's and still running well. May be my last year with it as I'd like to pick up a slightly older Indy 440/500 And my new toy! 1990 Safari 377 LE. Didn't move for 2.5 yrs and started first pull! Really nothing wrong with it, but needs a rear shock and i may replace the track at the same time
  11. A short tracked tundra would have been a citation in those years, I believe
  12. Pretty sure that Tundra is an LT!
  13. Definitely a few ZEC trips, and a couple backlakes close to my house that I know hold giant pike
  14. Never liked the OFC search, this search brought up a ton of results http://search.yahoo.com/search?rewrite=72&.tsrc=apple&first=1&p=ontariofishingcommunity+temagami+ice&pintl=en&pcarrier=TELUS&pmcc=302&pmnc=220&fr=onesearch
  15. Someone's got it figured out! I dug out my wooden sticks, made up a couple batches of medium and large sized salties, and put some gas in the sled!
  16. I've been eyeing the Cooper Discoverer A/TW at Canadian Tire. Seems to get reviewed real well for winter traction but still has a set of teeth for offroad traction.
  17. Going thru this ice fishing magazine, it looks like just about every brand under the sun has hopped on the inline ice reel trend. If I did any amount of panfishing, I would likely pick up a decent one, if only for the fun factor
  18. Congrats on your new career avenues! Loved the goose hunting shots the most, but they're all good, of course! Nice Chevy too. The new chevy front ends look nice but the front valences are way too low for my liking compared to previous generations. I installed a 2" level kit on my '13 and it made a huge difference.
  19. Hides cannot be sold commercially without a trappers license (my understanding anyway) so naturally a farmer wouldnt be able to do mich with it.
  20. The one i had used did not freespool, so yes it was a pain in deep water to strip out 2 feet at a time
  21. -15 here tonight, but with all this friggin' snow we're getting there won't be much ice-making. Early start to snowmobiling though
  22. Eliminates line twist...great for ultralite fishing (1/8 and under) plus it's a lot of fun to fight fish on them. Pain in the rear for for deepwater fishing since you have to pull the line out manually.
  23. I may be on strike, so I'll be shopping at the food bank
  24. Wow, just amazing. Kayaking for big summer lakers in the park must be incredible, on the fly no less. That river provides you with some seriously world class fishing right on your doorstep, man!!
