I think there are two launches on South Portage Road, but I've only been there for ice fishing. I believe there is a launch on Portage Bay that is somewhat small, but I believe there is another one closer to Baysville in Lake of the Bays Park??? Can't find much information about this park at all. It doesn't need to be that close to Baysville, was just planning on fishing the "southern arm" of the lake in general - probably around Whitehouse Bay. Thanks again!

I prefer Lake Huron as well. So any beach on that water would be my choice. However, Port Stanley is a bit closer.

Looks like a nice place. Was your fishing time limited mostly due to wind? I really like the lodges on big water since you can access so many different species of fish. Thanks for putting that report together!

At that age you shouldn't need anything more than a lake and/or pool. Some things like canoes, paddle boats always help. Making them help around the cottage doing chores is a good idea too We always try to make our daughter help out in some way with dishes or something. I honestly feel bad for you if you really have to plan things at a cottage for kids that age. They should be able to make their own fun with ease. Good luck!

My last trip was a fly-in and I worked on reducing my tackle bag from 35+lbs down to <30lbs (was aiming for 25lbs)- the bag holds 7 size 3700 trays. This was tackle for three guys (my brother and father know not to bring anything but their rod/reels). I hardly used anything but jigs on that trip. However, that just happened to be the predominant type of fishing on this lake. Normally I would have used bottom bouncers with harnesses and cranks a lot more. When we go back to that lake, my tackle bag will be very light. On a typical walleye/pike trip, I think three trays would hold more than enough tackle. In the end it comes down to weight of course, so my aim would be 5-7 lbs and up to 10 lbs maximum. Ultimately though, it comes down to whether or not you can [or want/need to] pre-fly in the beverages. That's the killer. When I drive to a camp, I don't worry as much and bring a ton of crap because "you never know" what the hot thing will be. I am slowly changing that mindset though.

Looks really good! Those eggs are dang expensive though! Did you just use it as a regular charcoal BBQ or can it be used as a smoker too??

Last season I put the whole 150 yard spool onto my 2500/3000 reels [i just couldn't waste it!!] and it was too much. It resulted in some lovely natural knots. I took about 20 yards off and it solved the problem for me. Power Pro does make Super 8 Slick braid, but I believe it's just more round compared to the standard. I am not sure if that would help or not. Alternatively, as mentioned, a fused superline might work (I've only used them ice fishing) or a co-polymer might be worth a try.

Clear lake is popular too. There is a series of lakes north of Algonquin named Christopher Robbin, Pooh, Tigger, Kanga, Roo, Piglet and Owl Lake. I always thought that was funny.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with spending $40 on superlines for young kids. Go with decent 6lb or 8lb mono or copolymer. I prefer Trilene XT, Maxima Ultragreen, Gamma Copolymer and P-Line Floroclear.

Ask here or hereand you'll get plenty of information. I think your choice may depend on where you fish. However, in my experience, there seem to be a lot more ice fishermen with ATV's than sleds on the bigger lakes. For back lakes, I think what Bill said is true. I still use my two feet, so I can't offer much more than that.

I'd also like to hear about how the accommodations, boats etc and fishing are. I'd considered that resort many times over the years, but never been. Good luck!

I have reasonably success using them for Walleye. As for melting, did you happen to put any other type of plastic with them?? I've only had them dry up myself. I'd email Pure Fishing and see if they can help you out.

The 427 is just fine south of the 401. Either route mentioned should be good (QEW-403E-401E-400N OR QEW-427N-401E-400N), especially at 11AM on a weekday. I'd probably go with the 403E route with the carpool lane, as long as you have at least three people in the car. Taking the 409 MIGHT help a bit if it's busy, but I've only gone that route when it's really bad STOP-AND-GO traffic. I don't think it saves much time, just some frustration. I'd probably stay in the Express lane on the 401 as well to make things easier, but the collectors might be faster if you really need to save 5 minutes, lol.

I picked up a G Loomis Walleye rod (WJR 751S) on clearance earlier this year and it performed beyond my expectations. It's a one piece 6'3" extra fast rod. Several companies make similar rods and I was originally going to pick up a similar St.Croix Eyecon rod (ECS63MXF) but came across the other one at 50% off, so I had to buy it. I use 20lb spectra braid with it. edit: I just noticed you said IN THE WEEDS. I put together a setup to "rip the weeds" with bucktails on Rice a couple of years ago. It's basically a "pike" rod as well. It's a 2 piece MH Rapala TS2 rod with an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500 spooled with 65lb test PowerPro. I think a shorter stiffer rod (5'6" to 6'3") is better for this technique but comes down to personal preference in the end.
