  1. once day-light-savings-time kicks in I usually will average 3 days a week on the water - this will vary from an hour of casting at the local pond after dinner to 4-8 hrs of trolling... my fave outings tho are mid-week afterwork & miles of blue all to myself
  2. sounds like a good boat Pete... any idea of the weight? that will dictate how under-powered it would be... as you know my 30hp tiller pushes the light 16.5' Cresty quite well (though its rated for 50 max) i'll agree with Lew tho, dont jump the gun unless your sure...
  3. yup & the day only gets better @ 8pm with NASCAR's Bud Shootout!
  4. no complaints - Petty is allright! much better then any of the pop/hip hop garbage thats out these days
  5. thanks for sharing this Chris - allways appreciate the news pieces you dig up. I gotta say, the boys on the otherside of the pond sure have their priorities in place.
  6. The last "shows" I attended was the Spring fishing show in 2004 & the "ice-fishing show" later that December last did the sportsmens show in 2002? & boat show in 2002? I will be attending this new fishing show however, main reason being that some of the big salmon gurus (Datomo, Sullivan, Santoro, ...) are putting on a salmon trolling seminar for a few hours. Very much look'n forward to it. Attened one of there seminars last year @ JB's. Top notch.
  7. can be ordered from the Lake Michigan Angler site, but yes Jos should be able to get 'em in for you - there is the regular spoon sized box & the magnum.
  8. new ownership this year I heard - look forward to your report
  9. correct me if I am wrong, isnt Lund & Ranger both under the same "company umbrella"? Or at least they used to be? Genmar i believe was the name...
  10. you should be allright Gerritt I am sorta in the same situation - adding some more various electronics to my boat in the next coupla weeks currently my bilge & livewell pumps, nav lights, 2 cigarrette plugs all in wired in the fuse pannel + my sonar & VHF radio are running off my starting battery. No issues thus far. I'll be adding a horn, electric downriggers & a stereo soon & it will all run off the same battery. I have asked around & have been assured that I'll be allright. keep in mind I do alot of trolling so the main motor will allways be going & keeping things charged. My bowmount has its own deepcycle battery, and my bowmount sonar runs off its own gel cell battery. I'l throw some photos up of the completed project in a few weeks for ya.
  11. glad to hear you got what you wanted Gerritt ive herd nothing but positive things about Jos & his shop from many folks - i'll be paying him a visit or two before spring for sure
  12. I still dont know who won the 06 tourney.....
  13. booogitty boogitty boogitty! shortest offseason of all pro-sports!
  14. thanks everyone power to the unit is not the issue - its a faulty power button that is i made a coupla phone calls - Lowrance/Eagle welds there units differently then others do - getting the unit open to check out the problem is expensive & difficult to do... I am just gonna use it this season when it works & I also have a back up unit that fits the same plug connection a slick new unit will be purchased next year....
  15. yep had a heckuva time trying open up an older Eagle Ultra portable a few years ago..... thanks for the help guys.... I know a guy at a place... gonna check that out first
  16. For nearly all of '07, Ive had a minor problem with my Eagle Fishmark 320 fishfinder. There is something wrong with the power button. Some days I cant get the unit to turn on ( or off for that matter) I called up Lowrance/Eagle office & the unit is well past warranty & they charge a flat rate of $125 to look at it. Its gotta be a small problem with the button & when its pressed down, probably not allways making proper contact underneath? Anyone ever take a sonar apart themselves? What do you suggest I do? ( I do have a spare lower grade Eagle that will get me in the meantime) The unit works very well otherwise. No room in the budget for new unit untill next offseason (bought all my toys for 08 allready )
  17. hey Lew that flasher option on your sonar is just like a Vexilar or Marcum on the dial the bottom will be displayed with a solid bar & then there will be an open area from the bottom mark to the surface (but wth the lowrance as you see, it tells you the depth in the middle - 26.7 ) any other blips/bars/mark in between that area will be fish/subsurface weeds/clutter/structure - different colours will represent stronger/weaker signals and this will all depend on how you have the sensitivty level set ( just like a normal sonar right?) flashers a re really only used for two things - fishing vertically (ie jigging) and years ago many guys had them on there boats because they could read depths will boats were under power better then their old sonars could back then really tho, the flasher will mostly benfit ya on the baot if your jigging & you have your bait in the tranducers "cone-zone" - many guys also rig these Lowrance units so they can also be used on the ice hope this helps a bit
  18. cant complain - heres some of my fishing related gifts that ive accumulated over a few days of various get-togethers in addition, last month I picked up a Moore Sub-Troll speed & temp probe for myself.... lots of excitement for Jeffy & his first Christmas... Merry Christmas everyone
  19. sorry Roy - I disagree - love both sports but not for the reasons you suggested Simon definetly shoulda got turfed.... anybody listen to Bob MCown's interview with Colin Campbell today ?
  20. well steve, I wish you & your family all the best on the transition & everything to come also, it wont be anytime soon that I forget that experienece on Simcoe some 4 yrs ago.... but its ok if you dont remember take care bud & dont let Coop trade in his blue & whites for any of those local yellow colours....
  21. besides Kesagami with drew... a week on Lake of the Woods
  22. matter of personal preference I personally find that the Offshores pull a little better BUT the Church's come better equipped out of the package with better clips/releases and have adjustable keel - good if you plan on using copper or core with them...
  23. dosent look like i'll be able to make it as I had hoped
  24. ive owned a couple different ones & used many on other buddies boats They are all quite comparable like others said, but they allhave a couple different things about them Big Jons do have the best rod holders & they tilt back, also the electrics can be manuals as well (come with a handle unlike the other brands) Scottys also are great - but are a little big, are plastic & rod holders cant really be adjusted Walkers - Canadian made, good warranty, lousy rod holders Cannons - solid, good holders, small footprint, When I upgrade my boat years from now Big Jons or Cannons will be going on it
