i think sparks should be worried. Hutch is saying and doing all of the right things. In his post game interview he genuinely spoke about how special it is to play for toronto and that he is doing his best to take the opportunity and run with it. Hes not the heir to the throne so to speak. I sometimes feel like Sparks believes that he deserves the back up spot because of the season he had last year with the marlies. Babock loves a guy that understands that getting to play in the NHL for the leafs is a special thing. Remember though, Hutch is new, like any goalie it takes the NHL a little bit to figure out your cracks and then totally expose them. NHL players are so good they almost always inevitably start making good goalies look average after time. Thats the world we live in with film and analytics. Teams know where to shoot from and where to shoot. Jesus even Carey Price looks extremely mediocre now. Thats how good these guys are. Good for Hutch though, he definitely has a calmin presence around him as well, which i think sparks lacks with his more wildstyle aggressive goaltending.

Kappi at this point is actually of higher value than Nylander...as such teams are going to want him in order for them to give up their big time D man. Other names on contracts that arent up this year are also now being thrown around. I see it as a package of Kappanen + a piece + a draft pick for a big time guy like petrieangelo

His value is astronomically high because he got to play with matthews all year (on pace for close to 40 goals) Hes going to be too expensive to resign next year if he continues on the way he is...hence you trade a very very high valued young piece plus a prospect or a draft pick and use up that cap for a high quality D piece and make a run at it this year. I think Dubas has to know that the window is about as wide open this year as it will literally ever be again. If I am him I am going all in to try and win this year.

Our centres in that series with boston last year I kid you not Matthews, Plekenec, Marleau and bozak Thats a damn far cry from Matthews, Tavares, Kadri and whoever you decide to throw on the 4th pairing. I have no problem believing that if healthy at at full speed that our "second" line of Matthews Nylander and Marleau would run absolute train on a Krejci Backes and whoever the hell else line. Or even better Kadri Kapanen and Brown vs Colby Cave and his 2 points this year? Joakim Nordstrom and his 5 pts and dont forget Ryan Donato? hes got 4 points this year as well...just a seriously deadly threat when facing 16pt man Kadri, or the guy with as many goals as that entire line has points combined Kapanen Seriously? lmao give me a break.
