  1. Drove north and went fishing this weekend. Was towing the boat, had the OPP cruising with me on the 400, no issues. Was a great weekend caught a bunch
  2. i hope he sold before the most recent 20% crash :S
  3. holy cow what a deal. good on you...
  4. I do not disagree with this. Tournament organizers need to be paying more for hosting events on lakes and that funding needs to go directly back to the fishery and not to any other junk. That entire B1 fiasco comes to mind.
  5. I don’t consider myself a “terrible” bass angler, but I’ve yet to finish in the money. I’ve been on the right fish, but as Dave Chong said to me “to win, first you need to find the fish, then you need to convince them to bite, and then everything has to go right” ive gotten steps 1 and 2 out of the way multiple times but have unfortunately never had step 3 work out lol. I can still see that 6lb smallmouth I lost in my last tournament last year forever burned in my mind. It did the old poke it’s head and stand vertical out of the water for me to stare at him before he shook me off.
  6. The elite series events boost the heck out of a lot of local economies. You’ve got 100 pros coming through needing accommodations and food. Then people travel to come and watch them weigh in. Places like waddington I’m sure love the business.
  7. When you get really into bass fishing it’s actually pretty intriguing to watch. As much as tournament angling is gambling, it’s also not. When you watch them fish, and the bags that they are able to weigh while fishing solo, they are something to aspire to. Of course aside from the slight gear advantage that they have, the average person could attempt to do what these guys do. Except you can’t cast, or work a bait, or cast and fish as efficiently as them. Zaldain has been on bass live multiple times skipping ten inch swimbaits under docks...could you imagine? seth fieder can pick apart a dock so bloody precisely you couldn’t imagine getting baits into where he puts them. I’ve seen him on live put his bait to the dock infront of a pontoon boat with its outboard down and haul out 6lber’s. It’s nuts if you watched Chris Johnston (one of the three Canadians on the elite series) win on the st Lawrence last year on championship Sunday, he was pushing it to the absolute edge catching giant smallmouth in 6 foot rollers on Lake Ontario. That kind of stuff is good entertainment as far as I am concerned. even more so is a lot of the bass season is during Canada’s closed season. Watching a guy like Lee Livedsay catch a 42lb 5 fish limit of 7 and 8 lbers on a top water this weekend has me all kinds of jacked up for bass season. until you tournament fish it’s harder to appreciate the stakes. I would never try and make tournament fishing a living, but trust me, when you are in one and you hook a good one, it’s literally one of the ultimate highs. I guess it’s built for adrenaline junkies in a way, there’s just something about driving your boat to the limit, fishing super hard and the absolutely extreme highs of catching big ones and the crushing lows of losing them.
  8. dont get me wrong, theres very few of these guys that are actually making any money doing this stuff, but those at the top have more importantly got the sponsorship dollars backing them. A guy like Gerald Swindle hasnt won a thing in a decade, but hes a salesman with a history and appears to be doing just fine travelling around fishing for a living. Its not the life for everyone, but I could think of worse careers lol. I recently saw a stat that Zaldain (the angler being referenced to by the OP) has finished in the money over 80% of the time while on the elite series...thats pretty damn impressive. Id argue that spending $200 on a bait for him to fish the way he does is a worthwhile investment. thats whats intriguing about zaldain, he fishes like no one else does, or really can. What he did on G ville last year was insane.
  9. will also earn you more money than any other species...Never heard of any $100,000 every couple of week tournaments for anything else.
  10. the idea of removing the gobies from some of these fisheries where our predator species walley and smallmouth bass are relying so much on them for prey scares the hell out of me. Especially because its been shown that the gobies have had a negative effect on those predator species old sources of prey. did they not also discover that gobies eat zebra muscles? Hence when you go to the kawarthas where there are no gobies the entire bottom is literally 100% coated in zebra muscles while other lakes with gobies the bottom is not.
  11. Good play by the president of the United States to use subtle sarcasm when talking about treatments during a global pandemic. Top notch stuff
  12. He did indeed, also injecting bleach and exposing your insides to UV light. Not sure why no one is trying those either. I think it’s a conspiracy by “big pharma” and the “elite” as part of the depopulation agenda.
  13. Really sorry to hear Dan. You and your family are in my thoughts
  14. And end up with what happened in the United States with people dying at 2x the rate that Canadians did. Curious, what number of dead people are you comfortable with? we’re at just over 20,000 so we bump that to 40k? Funny that’s the same number of Canadians that died in world war 2...that’s acceptable?
  15. This graph literally shows that large cities with high population density suffer severely with the disease (New York city and Los Angeles) and places that disregard lockdowns/covid measures also have the most cases of disease (texas, Florida) therefore directly proving that covid safety measures/lockdowns do work. There’s loads and loads of data out there showing how disregarding covid measures ie not wearing masks and not locking down at all had the most significant negative impact those populations. Conspiracy theorists love to point to outliers like New York and LA...the places that are most dense with the most multi cutural population ended up with the most cases of covid. Look at the stats on the west coast where the population density is similar and it’s not cold all winter and see what comes up when comparing to Florida and texas. you’ll note the case’s per population are actually the lowest in the country aside from the middle grain belt states. Even California’s case count in relation to population is extremely low. by the way, I don’t know what the hell kind of “severe” lockdowns you are referring to in california. Great, their measures were severe by texas and Florida standards but if you follow basically anyone in LA on Instagram (almost any celebrity) it sure as hell doesn’t appear like there were any severe lockdowns. You want to see those, look at New Zealand and Australia and how they handled their lockdowns and how effective they were. Australia has basically not been locked down since last summer. as Bill pointed out, our lockdowns were implemented wrong, they allowed high powered businesses to disregard any measures and it really screwed up our system. Please don’t point to the United States as “the place that got it right” people quite literally died in the US at twice the rate of canada when looking at it comparison to their population. 570,000+ Dead now, That’s almost the entire population of New Brunswick. I would also argue that that number is severely understated because healthcare is not free. Heck a covid test in the United States cost $100+ so how can you tell me anything is accurate in regards to their figures. Furthermore you think the folks that live in poverty in the back woods of alabama and West Virginia are getting top notch medical care? another place that has no ability to lockdown simply due to population density and corruption is India. They opened everything up and look what’s happening, they are “reporting” 300,000 cases per day! Remember only the wealthiest of the population in that country receive medical care. You can only imagine how many people are actually infected in a place as unsanitary and densely populated. we’ve proven it 3 times in a row, lockdowns/stay at home orders work. 3 waves we’ve gone through and within a week case numbers begin to drop every single time. We are already dropping our cases in Ontario. And every time we get out of the lockdown our cases go up again.
  16. “Essential” as defined by the lockdown orders is so loose that any business involved with shipping and distribution is essential. What the hell business do you know that is not somehow involved with shipping or distributing goods? perfect example, my brother works for a board game company lol
  17. So I just found out something absolutely incredible that makes me feel so friggin mad I can’t describe it. my brother is the COO of a distribution company based out of brampton. Luckily the company is not gigantic about 40 employees and ownership is 100% on board with doing everything in their power to keep people safe. They have provided full paid leave to any of the staff that have even been exposed never mind contracted covid. well anyways today my brother was describing the fact that he has one employee that is on a company mandatory quarantine after returning from his month long vacation in India. Another employee leaves Monday to go see family in India for three weeks. Both were working out scheduling with my brother and he found out that due to the fact that both of these employees are “essential” just like absolutely anyone else that is still working (check the essential list of businesses) you are exempt from the mandatory 14 day quarantine. I knew this was the case for truckers but I never put two and two together that it simply applies to anyone thats “essential” so this entire “14 day hotel thing” is entirely bogus and doesn’t actually exist except in the limited case where a foreigner comes here isn’t working. my mind is frigging absolutely blown. My brother has told the employees that they are both not allowed to return to work without quarantining and providing a negative covid test. But without his companies policy there’s literally no quarantine for people traveling to India, Brazil etc etc mind friggin blown
  18. welp the thread is gonna get closed now... but yup the whole allowing flights in full of double mutated variants and the like is absolute garbage. They traced the vancouver canucks outbreak to a flight from brazil. It had a bunch of NHL hockey players literally bed ridden. Rumour was a few were so bad they were on IV's
  19. Dan went and saw him mom and dad early on last year. They ended up being sick and infected him. Jake doesn’t know, he works from home. He’s always masked up and sanitized etc, just unlucky that he caught it while running errands or something. his girlfriend also young and healthy ended up being hospitalized. I’ve never met his gf because he’s back living in wales now so I didn’t mention her experience. He just explained how terrifying it was when he was sick and struggling to breath and then she was struggling to breathe and it was making him have a panic attack while already struggling to breath and it was simply a giant mess. all of these people in their thirties, non smokers, no pre-existing conditions and speaking for jake and Dan, both athletes
  20. well there's the Not getting severely ill/dying from covid benefit. Let me guess, your immune system is awesome? You should tell that to Dan my 33 year old personal trainer life long friend who ended up hospitalized twice, or my 33 year old friend jake Wales national basketball team member who now takes a puffer daily after catching it last november? Really unhealthy old guys they are.
  21. Johnny trust me we are glad to have you sticking around with us. Cases like yours remind everyone that people need the ICU for many things aside from just Covid. Im glad there was a bed ready for you to use. May and June are quickly upon us, and some more catches of a lifetime are waiting to bite onto your line still. Stay well and all the best as you recover.
  22. ive got a connect that can get it to you cheaper, or if you are interested the new curado xg that came out this year also cheaper. Shoot me a message if you are interested. Also the SLX MGL is in a lot of people's opinions nicer than the DC. The DC is a feature but the MGL body is legendary in shimanos line up. My collection at this point basically includes something from everyone, my old Abu's from when i first started getting serious about fishing (the revo sx spinning reels from 2011 ish were awesom) ambassadeurs, my musky and trolling stuff is all quantum, diawa tatulas, lews tournament speed spools, Megabass, and a whack of different shimanos...Citica, new curados, old curado 50e's that are still perhaps my favourite reel of all time (i managed to buy one brand new last year...such a score) but out of all of these the king of them all is the new bantam mgl. I wish I could afford to replace every single reel in my arsenal with bantams. I am certainly from now on sticking with shimano though...not a slight on any of the other brands (Lews especially too be honest) bit the shimano products just seem to hold up better and feel better. Thats my preference though, their stuff just feels more rigid and lower profile than diawa. Heck i probably even like my old curado 50e as much as my megabass FX. Thats really saying something. The curado line up though, seems to be the best bang for buck reel out of any generation all time.
  23. the funny thing about the wishmasters is that they just look like a normal musky bait. I remember fisherpete showing me one and I was slightly confused lol but who the hell am i to talk, i pay $30 for a giant Dog X instead of $9 for a zara spook all to catch bass...I have no idea why either cause I caught a lot with the zara lol.
  24. https://ccforum.biomedcentral.com/track/pdf/10.1186/s13054-015-0852-6.pdf note icu beds capable of invasive ventilation 1,122
  25. guys, I am 100% on your side that so much of this stuff doesnt make any sense. Without being political our politicians are 100% accountable for what is going on. But lets not get into the conspiracy theory garbage "the ICU's arent full" Theres quite literally only 1,200 ICU beds in Ontario. 750 of them are currently occupied with covid patients. That quite literally leaves 450 beds for every single other person that needs to go into intensive care in the entire province. Think about what you are saying for a second. Basically any person that is in danger of dying ends up in the ICU, what happens if a natural disaster, terrorist attack or any other form of mass casualty event occurs, i guess we are going to leave it once again on the doctors to decide who lives and dies? People pushing for us to not care until the ICU's are literally totally full so that in the event that you get in a car crash you will simply be left for dead because there is no space is a strange way to think. If you want to talk about the Covid situation being a mess, have at it, but lets not completely disregard what doctors nurses and those in the medical field are going through at the moment. My direct team member at work's wife is a nurse, she is not trained nor certified to work with intubated people with severe cases of covid, but guess where she started working this week due to staffing shortages. You guessed it, she has been assigned to the covid ward out of desperation. Please Please Please do not make light of the situation at our hospitals at the moment. I invite you to talk to any nurse/doctor or other healthcare practitioner working with covid patients prior to announcing that your hospital is totally fine on a fishing forum.
