  1. i believe the fish is 7 lbs...it could be 9 you never know! ive seen 6lb looking fish go 4, ive seen 4 lb fish go over 5 all the bloody time. Thats why its important to weigh fish rather than make claims...the amount of "5lbers" i hear people catch...put it on a good scale
  2. from a fellow georgetown member welcome! Lots of great fishing to be had around here.
  3. pops eats the odd 1-2lb smallie outta georgian bay. He says they taste pretty darn good. You do get the odd grub in em. I dont really eat fish much so theres no way that when i do eat fish its gonna be bass. Ill stick with pickerel if I am going to eat it thanks.
  4. http://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-xps-stalker-top-loader-tackle-bag-or-system been loving this bag, the rain cover and especially the line spool pouches with dispensers are so key! pull a length of line for a leader and snip.
  5. I first hand witness rednecks poach like crazy too...just because they have a fishing license doesnt make it ok when they take their limit home, eat it and then head out fishing all over again with 8 guys in the boat taking 32 eyes a day off georgian bay. you all know the type, rednecks on a house boat drunk as skunks there for the morning and evening bite all week long, never a fish going back into the lake.
  6. if you are trying to just punch some lakers without all of the gadgets id cruise around mark fish and drop a swammer on their friggin head just like ice fishing.
  7. October Georgian Bay smallies are a real pain in the you know what...they are spread out and in clumps...you can spend all day looking for them but once you hit a pocket you will put 20lbs in the boat in minutes and then sit skunked the rest of the day. to be honest my focus in the fall usually switches over to eyes for this reason. dont get me wrong we still go for smallie runs but skunks are the norm...and thats from a local. This time of year though, sometimes i basically feel like any spot that looks ok will produce, its just a matter of trying to find size. Georgian bay can be tough to get the big big ones...but the 2-3lbers keep you busy all day so no one complains.
  8. glad i made a few drinks casualties today ahahha
  9. i gotta make a point... what would be the charge if i got caught speeding, and subsequently also didnt have a drivers license...me thinks I would be in more trouble that the people that got fishing with no license in a sanctuary...
  10. i vote manitou for the most fertile pretty sure hes had 4 babies since this thread started
  11. ....not harsh enough...not even close
  12. you get two options as it relates to navionics for Canada. You can buy "north america" or you can buy "Canada and Alaska" unfortunately the smaller map options or as they call them "Navionics regions" are only available for areas of the United States. Lakemaster also has charted the American side of some of the great lakes but unfrotunately, also not an option for Canadians. So for the Helix your two options are buy "north america" or buy "canada and alaska" To find them used can be difficult unless you find someone that is upgrading to platinum and you can get their standard card. I Tried but had to bite the bullet and just buy new. The chips come on a standard SD card with a micro SD slide out...no need to transfer data over they give you what you need. I used navionics on my phone for the past couple of years, its ok if you know your way around...but to navigate properly for an extended period of time, or to use while fishing...not a chance. Kills your battery far too fast.
  13. had a couple of morons park between us and a rock wall that we were only about 20 feet away from...buddy proceeded to drop his rod in the lake...and then i caught my PB pickerel at the time while they continued to get skunked...karma is a Bish
  14. this is when all of my used plastics would be thrown one by one at them...freshly dipped in gulp alive juice
  15. im guessing there are pike in this lake...i wouldnt run anything under 15lb fluro. i fish clear water smallies and they never seem to mind. I mind losing lures though.
  16. first thing if its calm, top water...they will get you a long way to determining where the fish are at. Once that bite dies down when the light gets higher, chatterbaits tailed with a swimbait tail. if you need to slow it down you can throw a straight swimbait paddletails...i like x zones or even bass pro tournament series will do. Throw them with a J-will swimbait head. Then if you need to slow it down mid day, drop shotting gulp alive, jackall crosstail shads off of the sharp edges will get em. For a jig bit to throw around sholes i use owner stand up jigs with either psycho dads or OSP crayfish...anything with floating claws works. Pop pop and let it rest, the smallies eat em up.
  17. you should have seen Pointe Au Baril this weekend...the water was the highest I have ever seen it in the 12 years we have been there. The wind was absolutely howling off of the bay all weekend, took a quick boat trip to go see the main bay and promptly turned around before even getting close to the big water...the rollers were coming right into the channel...calmed down somewhat but you could see the 10+footers out on the main bay...ugly.
  18. had my first experience with this a few weeks back, except this wasnt a marina it was simply a smaller alcove with a cottage in it. I guess the guy was not used of boats coming by his place. I even respected him and stayed and the entrance casting into his small bay...sure enough i hooked up and brought the fish in..as I was unhooking the fish the guy comes down to his dock and starts yelling at me and then says "theres no fish here get lost!" to which i held up the smallie I just caught lol It is my understanding that it is impossible to own water no matter what, unless of course its your private pond. The only thing that can be purchased is the shore allowance which you purchase directly from the crown. My neighbors purchased theirs after a group decided that they wanted to camp on his front lawn? pretty crazy.
  19. cliff thanks for taking the time to do this write up. I know how long they can take and it is much appreciated. Im glad you guys at least got to eat some picks!
  20. last night i made some musky carp stew...deeeeeelish
  21. the leafs arent looking for a goalie at all? in fact anderson had 4 less wins than price did last year, playing in front of a team of rookies with no defense...for less than half the cost. so ya
  22. i dont run anything less than 15lbs...i dont like losing all of my lures and the 20lb bags seem to indicate that the smallies dont mind.
  23. spooks, chatterbaits, jerkbaits and then slow dragged brown crayfish/gobys if the sun is high, cast em right on shore...they havent moved yet...keep your drag tight, theirs 5lbers sitting in less than 4 FOW.
  24. im guessing you are chasing musky? but in pointe au baril, the water is still below 65-69 meaning the fish are still up shallow and easy to spot...weve been sight fishing smallies its been a riot.
