  1. i would argue that the Helix 7 G2 is very competitively priced in comparison to the hook 7 and i think many would make the argument that it is a superior chart plotter. I have heard a lot of negativity about the graph load speeds on the hook series. HDS is a whole other ball game.
  2. i can assure you the walleye population in the tri lakes is doing just fine...fished a bass tournament on Saturday and caught 5 walleye...all small too so they are definitely spawning just fine.
  3. not to mislead you at all, i have been so into the helix series that i could tell you every single thing about every model...ive been obsessing over them for the last year. I personally run two helix's myself! There is a big difference between simply having a minkotta with ipilot, and one with ipilot link and networking capabilities. if the trolling motor has ipilot link, then you will be able to network with any Helix G2N series chartplotter. (7 series and up, not available on 5's) Please note that a Helix G1, and Helix G2 are not compatible with the ipilot link system. Also...in order for the link system to communicate with your G2N unit, you will have to be running a lakemaster card. You are in luck because lakemaster Ontario just came out last month! it would be worth contacting humminbird directly to ensure that the lakes that you like to fish are included in the charts. If not, your other option is to get a zero lines card and chart the areas that you want to run the link system on yourself. The important part of this is that navionics does not work with the N link system. So your investment might actually be a lot more than youd expect. If thats the case, dont bother linking it together and my recommendation is to just buy a G2 model helix. Also note that any helix 10, or 12 is automatically a Networking capable unit! Any more questions let me know!
  4. these have always helped me the grand one isnt as comprehensive although to be honest the credit and grand at least in my limited experience dont differ too too much...most of my fishing was done on the eramosa to be honest. I couldnt find a hatch chart for it but the credit chart worked just fine. ive had limited success for brookies on drys in any of the rivers...a wise man once told me that the browns up in the grand dont care for em either. sink your stuff under an indicator.
  5. this thread is friggin killin me as i sit at my cubicle. sick smallie, that thing is a chunk. I fished a tournament saturday with a guy in one of those stratos fish n skis...i could swear you are the same guy lol
  6. you are thinking of the Neko Rig then. That involes a nail weight with basically a senko whacky rigged.
  7. lol, stay the heck away from anything japanese then...Crappy rapalas are $15 and are basically junk.
  8. This thing is literally going to destroy the smallmouth
  9. Z man came out with a craw specifcally made for the ned at ICAST, it looks friggin incredible for smallies.
  10. listen to this man Dave what do you think of Z man's new ned rig TRD craw...thing looks friggin deadly. also..of course live bait works but in the essence of not killing fish that you intend to release, dont use it. You will do fantastic drop shotting Megabass hazedongs in ghost shad colour. Trust me.
  11. this is friggin crazy. Climate change literally ruining a summer vacation...
  12. im not even complaining because I knew exactly what I was signing up for when i bought a late 90's boat...plus i actually enjoy working on the boat its a labour of love to be honest...and i put some serious hours on it so I expect things to break. But I had a tournament this weekend and... went to plug in the bow light and the plastic receptacle snapped right through the bow lol went to fish...fished all day i personally didnt get one qualifying fish...on the way back i notice something ever so slightly seemed off, looked back...no water pumping...impeller is blown. Call my buddies to come tow. tow to the docks, go to throw in the trolling motor...to drive it to the ramp...its dead (wires somehow came loose...easy fix, opened up the panel and rewired, already done) put the boat on the trailer, go to plug it in to charge bank 3 on my charger is smoked. good times ahahaha ? funny when i got back for a beer at the trailer, the guys were razzing me about how bad of a day I had...i said "i had about as bad of a day as you can have fishing...which is still a pretty damn good day"
  13. I find around labour day the topwater bite literally vanishes Its like someone turns off a lightswitch and you wont hit a thing topwater till opener next year. Maybe im weird by my best topwater time is always opener until the lakes get too hot. August i do really well on jerkbaits and then september when the topwater bite shuts off i know its time to go dropshot shoals.
  14. fished north end of pigeon for smallies yesterday. That soupy water is so settled on top of the cool water below we couldnt get anything to bite unless we broke through the thermocline. I think we hit 1 or 2 on the jerkbait, absolutely not even a single bite on the topwater and everything else on drop shotted megabass hazedongs. They were being so finnicky we could hardly get them to bite cross tail shads. if i had 4 rods? id be running topwater jerkbait dropshot craw on a jig
  15. i originally thought that your feet would get sweaty in them, and that they would stay wet...but they dont and you can stand on em all day and be as comfortable as any running shoe. how can you beat that
  16. Zoom's TRD Craw is by far the best thing I have seen so far. The only company making realistic craws at this point was OSP and they were charging $20 + a pack.
  17. hate to say it folks, but they are the best damn fishing shoes you can buy. I dont wear them much outside of the house because yes, they shouldnt be worn anywhere in public...i still somehow manage to find myself wearing them more than i should because they are so comfy and easy to put on. mine are real tree HD as well lmaooo Drives the GF absolutely nuts
  18. good to know they are still biting even with all of this heat!
  19. good to see that the portable sonar was put to good use!' nice shootin! and solid pike!
  20. i shot you a PM nick feel free to text me if you want if you are interested.
  21. i read the lund and the nipigong so far...i have to say, every time you post a report it just confirms that Canada is the best damn country in the world. ill move on to issue 3 shortly, but thanks for writing these, i know how much time they take! especially because yours are so professionally done.
  22. most definitely they will at minimum put rumble strips, a flashing stop light...something. Any time you see a big time fatality like this usually the problem gets addressed with larger warnings etc.
  23. 85 is an issue especially for tournament fishing. Mortality rates can get pretty nasty when the water is that warm. Plus...fishing deep is just not as fun as that shoreline top water bite! Oh well offshore fishing it is! thats where tournaments are won anyways
  24. remember bail is set on a basis of risk of not appearing and potentially re-committing the crime. Remember, you dont pay bail at all if you simply show up on your court date. The point is that there is no reason to force this guy to borrow money to pay his own bail. He isnt going to be driving, and theres obviously little to no risk of him not appearing. The guy isnt a "career criminal" hes a person that made an absolutely horrific mistake and used poor judgment. Big difference between the two.
