Backyard Speckin' 2015 - Updated with big fish
musky666 replied to Rod Caster's topic in General Discussion
Nice, North Bay will be my retirement area... -
Two years back I had a big girl die on me- took the double bladed bait way deep and I couldn't save her. I felt so bad- luckily I was meeting a fellow fisherman later in the day on the lake- I texted him and he said he would eat her. I got 4 big slabs 'o meat off her and he said it wasn't too bad. At least I didn't have to let her drift away...

Gotta say that I hate cyclists on the roadways. Firstly- I agree that if operated on the road they would be considered bound by the same laws as any motorist, and they clearly do not operate that way. Secondly, I don't feel that they pay for the right to use roadways designed and paid for by motorists- through taxes on fuel, and yearly licensing fees. Thirdly- are they insane? trying to share a roadway with vehicles weighing more than ten times what they do, operated by often tired or distracted drivers, with only inches to spare. I am speaking of the weekend warriors that ride the more rural roads north of the city- their numbers are growing and I feel they're a hazard to other motorists and themselves. Sorry to hijack this thread.

Terrible incident, but I always think its crazy to bike on some of the roads I see cyclists using- there should be more dedicated bike lanes for sure.

Traded my '73 Cuda on this '66 Charger back in '85- my dream car. I dated my wife in her, my son dated a girl in her-same drive-in but a generation apart! She's in the garage now waiting on a new power plant.

Yep, bought from George at Marshes, seems like a truly nice guy too.

Went Suzuki instead of Yamaha this time...225

So a pic of our new boat- picked it up on Thursday. A big ride and a big investment- hoping she turns out to be the boat I always dreamed of.
-
So my new rig has a gps puck mounted on the gunnel for the digital gauges, I need to mount another for my Humminbird unit- can I mount them side by side with no interference issues?
-
Still learning with ours- run one mounted on the dash to take multiple pictures continuously- usually of landing and holding up a catch= makes for a ton of shots but can pick and choose the best alter one.

Balsam had risen dramatically as of this past Saturday...

Wow, so sweet! -
If its over then it was a short one- nothing there last weekend, not even suckers...
-
Balsam seems very low to me, been at the launch the last 2 weekends and level barely rose from one to the next. I would say water is at least a foot lower than 'normal' and the shallow bays lining the highway are at their late fall stump filled best still...
-
Canal on west side of Balsam is just opened- barely into the lake itself yet- water level is way, way down.
-
Nice to see a young Musky come out of Dalrymple recently though....
-
Best I ever saw was one hot August night on Lake Muskoka- shut the boat and lights down just to watch- amazing.
-
Thats about the only knock on 'em that I could find as well- was able to move up 25 hp for same money over the yamaha so seemed worthwhile. Small dealer near where I fish in North Bay, so hoping he can help if needed.
-
I am hoping for good stuff from the Suzuki I just pulled the trigger on- if its as good ( or better) than my Yamaha I will be very happy!
-
I have also seen pics where folks have affixed a piece of rubber, like a flap, over top of the transducer to stop the rooster tail...
-
Had the same thing- figured it was from trolling big baits and reefing ahead with left arm while driving boat. Went to physio- got acupuncture and shock treatment- along with exercises- worked really well. Got some back now though so gotta get on with the exercises again.
-
Yep, bought 900 yards of Power Pro- good price for the bigger spools ( 3 x 300) and no tax.
-
I have a great boat now- 98 Starcraft side console with Yamaha 115 four stroke- awesome boat really. But I have been looking the last few months and went down to the Toronto Boat Show in January and fell in love with the new Kingfisher Flex XP- full windshield and canvas, Suzuki 225, soft moves front seats- would have been sweet and worked hard to finance it- in the end it was just too much- but when the day comes- that IS my dream boat.

snagged a new Headlock last season- dang 130 lb floor leader let go when i was a pulling,
