Windows has an update to deal with the new eastern standard time for Canada. I installed it last year and all is well. Tom

Nice Fall pictures. Your fourth picture is my favourite, the high shot of the river looks great. I also like shots of the older structures. Reminds me of times when life wasn't so hectic. Thank you for posting them. Tom.

I was just checking out OFC this afternoon and everything was working well until about 30 minutes ago, nothing would load for me. Everything timed out. I don't have Rogers Hi Speed so this might just be a coincidence that this happened to me at this time. I shut everthing down and pulled the plug on my Hi Speed DSL modem. I waited about 10 minutes before I reconnected everything and all is working well again. Tom.

Price in Penetanguishene is approximately about $19 & change for out of towners. Total price is for in, out and parking. Even residents in Penetanguishene pay around $17 or $18 total for putting it in, taking it out and parking. No real saving there for us either. I really don't know what you would have to pay for parking at Bayport Marina if you launch for free a Petersen Park. You could always phone them and ask what they charge for parking your vehicle and trailer. Tom.
-
Pete Petersen Park has free launching in Midland but out of towner's need to find a place to park vehicle & trailer or be fined. Water at Petersen park has been having it's ups and downs and might cause some problems launching depending on the size of your boat. Bay Port Marina has the parking area but that is not free. Penetang has launching and parking at a cost. As Mikeh says Town dock at Victoria Harbour is always a chore because you never know if you are going to have enough water. It is free. Worth a try anyway. Anywhere around Waubaushene that has launching will cost you. Tom.

15ft Jon boat with 3 men not wearing PFD's and an ATV loaded????? Overloaded isn't the word I would use. That was a tragedy just waiting to happen no matter what the distance to the other side of the river. Tom Three letters and I can't even get that right ...... "PFD's"

Computer problem need major help I think (NF)
Tdel replied to Handlebarz's topic in General Discussion
If you just want to free up space then download CCleaner or CleanUp! Your D drive isn't very big for now a day standards. If it is the drive you have your operating system on you might want to get a bigger drive. Most drives that I know of have the operating system on C. CCleaner and CleanUp! will remove garbage from your computer and you will be surprised at how much space you recover. Click on Click Here below and it will take you to the links of the programs and some info on them. Just scroll down to my post. Click here! Tom -
Running shoes or Ducky's for me in the boat. When I was younger I was able to walk bare feet on pebbles, stones, almost anything and have no problem what so ever. Now I am like the Princess and the Pea or should I say the Prince & the Pea. Tom

Seems to be back the way it was before. For me anyway. OFC Club when I am not signed in and my chosen skin when I am signed in. Happy Camper now. Tom

I don't think there is much sense talking about the boater's license right now. Most of the idiot's I have seen on the water are in 14 footers or more and they don't even need a license at this time, so a license won't help them at all. I think they have targeted the wrong size boat to license first. A cruiser almost made us submarine out on Georgian Bay. Not a good feeling for sure! And guess what Lew??? He smiled and gave us a friendly wave as the nose of my friends boat went under. Lucky for us it didn't keep on going down. Only he knows why he had to come so close to us on a very windy day. The OPP has to start targeting some of these guys. Tom

Maureen has my vote. Good Luck!!! Tom

Smelts for me and I am not talking about the ones you buy in the grocery stores. I sure do miss them and the good old days. Tom

Maureen, we were going to head out on the bay yesterday morning but the sky looked really dark to the west with a big rainbow beside the dark clouds. We decided to pick up a coffee and stop at the coal dock to assess the situation. The lightning, thunder and rain started so we decided to finish the coffee and call it a day. Man did the bass boats on the bay make a mad dash to get off the water. Last week we got caught out in the bay with the high winds near Waubaushene and Port McNicol and I can tell you that was definitely no fun. I guess we were a little gun shy this time. At least you did get to wet a line. Tom

Dustinnn, When you cast your popper or jitterbug out, do what the above members say, let it sit for a few minutes then twitch or start retrieving. If you twitch then let it sit for a minute or so and you might get a hit just after the twitch or when you start the retrieve. If the bass is interested, continue what you are doing if not then vary it. Mix it up and do one or more of the following > Slow down - speed up - stop & start - one continuous retrieve - stop many times during a retrieve and let it sit or twitch each time etc. Using top water lures are great early in the morning or in the evening. Before Sunrise or after Sunset is also a great time for them. Even in the afternoon it will work but for me it is best mostly in the early morning and early evening. Try worms or minnows and drift fish or throw a float out with live bait. Look for rocks, shallow to deep drop offs, weed beds, trees over hanging water, logs in water, bait fish, surface activity, (bass hitting insects or minnows near the surface) and vary your techniques and lures when something doesn't work and you should be able to catch bass. Don't forget to use your polarized sunglasses and watch in the shallows for bass because usually if you know they are there and can see them, then you should be able to entice them to hit something. Like Lunkerbasshunter says "What is wrong with trolling?" I say I love trolling. So do whatever turns your crank, is legal and catches fish . Tom

Definite go to lures for me are: 1. Canadian Wiggler -Chrome 2. Daredevil - Red & White Spoon 3. Williams Wabler - Any colour 4. Rapala - Black & White or Blue & Silver 5. Walmart "sale bin lure" I have seen it in the bins constantly. Don't know the name of this lure but man can it catch bass and pike in Georgian Bay. No name on the lure at all. Red angled from head to first set of triple hooks and silver the rest of the way to the end of the lure. Lure has a loud rattle. Approx 4.5 inches and looks like a Yo-Zuri Emperor Minnow. 6. Panther Martin - Pike size - Silver with Blue Feather. (Not available now as far as I know) 7. Blue Foxee Jig - Crayfish colour 8. Little Cleo - Blue & Chrome 9. Jitter Bug - Original red & white 10. Hula Popper - Frog or Red & White colours 11. Flat Fish - Colour Skunk 12. Lucky Strike Red Flash Wiggler spoon 13. Worm Harness - Double / single blade or hook. 14. Mr. Champ Lure - with a pearl - Ice fishing. 15. Swedish Pimple - Original - with or without a pearl - Ice Fishing Al's Goldfish was a lure that caught many Silver Bass in the old days. I don't know if it was called Al's Goldfish then but it was called "Goldfish" and looked identical to Al's. You could get it in gold or silver if I remember correctly. Tom I have no idea why the Canadian Wiggler didn't make the list. Just a great lure for almost anything.

chiefvail, this should answer your question: "What give them the right to check your camp as you are not fishing at the time, nor are those fish in your possession nor have they witnessed you in a vessel with them" This really says it all and are excerpts from The Fisheries Act. POWERS OF FISHERY OFFICERS AND FISHERY GUARDIANS Search: 49.1 (1) A fishery officer with a warrant issued under subsection (2) may enter and search any place, including any premises, vessel or vehicle, in which the officer believes on reasonable grounds there is a: any work or undertaking that is being or has been carried on in contravention of this Act or the regulations; b: any fish or other thing by means of or in relation to which this Act or the regulations have been contravened; or c: any fish or other thing that will afford evidence in respect of a contravention of this Act or the regulations. Authority to issue warrant: (2) Where on ex parte application a justice of the peace is satisfied by information on oath that there are reasonable grounds to believe that there is in any place referred to in subsection (1) any fish or other thing referred to in subsection (1), the justice may issue a warrant authorizing the fishery officer named in the warrant to enter and search the place for the thing subject to any conditions that may be specified in the warrant. Where warrant not necessary: (3) Notwithstanding subsection (1), a fishery officer may exercise the power of search referred to in that subsection without a warrant issued under subsection (2) if the conditions for obtaining the warrant exist but by reason of exigent circumstances it would not be practical to obtain the warrant. Exigent circumstances: (4) For the purposes of subsection (3), exigent circumstances include circumstances in which the delay necessary to obtain the warrant would result in danger to human life or safety or the loss or destruction of evidence. Powers during search: (5) In carrying out a search of a place under this section, a fishery officer may exercise any power mentioned in subsection 49(1), (1.1) or (1.3). Entry by fishery officer: 52. In the discharge of his duties, any fishery officer, fishery guardian or other person accompanying him or authorized to such effect by the fishery officer may enter on and pass through or over private property without being liable for trespass. R.S., c. F-14, s. 39. Tom

The last few years I have fished mainly for Walleye, but I am no fanatic about it. At my age I don't feel that I have to prove anything to anyone, including my fishing buddy. All the rest like Pike, Bass, and Perch are usually incidental catches when I am out for walleye, although I do target them once in a while. Occasionally I fish for Crappie(when available), Channel Cat, Mud Cat, and Trout. I am usually very easy to satisfy. I enjoy catching whatever is biting at the time and if they don't bite .............. That is ok too, I just enjoy being out there and relaxing. Tom

GbayGiant : To resize with Photo Impression all you have to do is: 1. Find the picture and open it in Photo Impression. 2. Once you have the picture open select "Edit" from the menu on the left. 3. On the bottom right you will see the size in pixels. Height and Width. 4. High lite the Height and then type in 600 or what ever size you want and click ok. The width will be automatically resized to match the size of the height. Click "save" on the menu and then "save" on the bottom if you don't want to retain the original picture. If you want to keep the original and also keep the resized picture then click "save" on the menu then "save as" and change the name of the picture. By doing this the original will stay the original size and the resized picture will also be saved at the smaller size. Tom

Lew, My condolences and deepest sympathy to yours and Eddy's family. I didn't know Eddy but I did enjoy his post and comments. He will be missed. May the Lord be with all of you in this sad time and give you strength. Tom

My buddy Neil and I went out fishing today in the Severn Sound area and what a beautiful day it was!! Didn't catch a lot of fish but did enjoy the sun and we saw a lot of scenery. I caught an OOS 4lb smallmouth while fishing for pike using a gold hammered Williams spoon and the smallmouth was released immediately, with no pictures taken. Weight was just a guess. Also caught a 17.75inch walleye but because of it being in the slot, I released that one immediately also without taking any pictures. The walleye was a nice clean healthy fish and you could feel the strength it had just by holding it. Neil caught a couple of nice perch and released them mainly because he doesn't like eating fish (can you imagine that???) Besides there was not enough for a meal. Since it was the long weekend, I expected more boats on the water than I saw and that was a pleasant surprise. I did get a couple photos of a jet contrail and one of those pictures is now being used as my computer wallpaper. Taking a picture from a boat rocking and rolling isn't that easy, for me anyway. The waves always seem to come just when I am about to take a shot. Tom

Entropy, I was out fishing on Sunday in Severn Sound and at the boat launch there were all kinds of minnows. They weren't as big as the ones you saw but there was lots and lots of them. Looks like more and more minnows are showing up compared to the last five or so years. There was a time, not that long ago when you could walk the shore and not see any minnows or pan fish at all. Now there are minnows and pan fish. Maybe things are looking up! Tom.

Me too Maureen, me too. Blank as blank can be!!!! Tom

I voted no because before I joined, I enjoyed reading the adventures posted and seeing the fishing pictures. That is what made me come back time and time again. I did not visit the site to find hot spots and deplete the fish population in someones "honey holes". I decided to join because I saw that Midland Penetang was not covered by any member and that I could share info that could help someone who wanted to fish the area. If I had been restricted I might not have joined and would probably have moved on. I just love it when I see "PM me and I will give you the info" and "changing the background of pictures". I think that this pole is directly related to the above. I think that if it comes down to "PM me or changing the background" then keep the information and pictures to yourself and PM yourselves to your hearts content. Blocking the background and just leaving a fish in a picture takes away from the whole story. If I wanted to look at pictures of fish alone I could go to a fish ID site but that is not what I want to do. Just remember that lurkers are future members who have not registered yet! Yes I was a lurker before I joined like most of the other members. Tom.
