  1. this year i have been using the watermelon/cream with great success , but i caught fish on every colour i used
  2. need to repower soon, this just maybe the ticket
  3. mike have the same panel at home makes a good coaster that's about it, either run a cord to your dock or carry the battery in for charging
  4. the biggest ski i have ever caught was 52" long on a kawartha lake fairly chunky october fish as a guess to weight i would say between 33-36lb's, more concerned with getting them back in the water than spend time trying to weigh em
  5. i have used the combi glove available at ct, it has the removable wicking in it very warm also yamaha branded (fxr) snowmobile gloves and there warm, but at the same time i don't bother ice fishing and my snowmobile has heated bars my hands are rarely cold
  6. as mentioned by jp and charles i have two rods one for open water, that one is a mh 7'2" rapala type r with 30 lb power pro on a curado e7 works good and casts well, for the heavier stuff 50lb braid on a 7' 6" quantum pro tour with a chronarch again works quite well, as for the choice of frogs right now i prefer the nories frogs have great hook ups and are doubly weighted cast a mile on either rod but at $17 bux or so you don't want to be losing to many
  7. most likely a worn belt but it can also be worn clutch bushings jack shaft bearing bad motor mounts alignment issues without being there and checking it myself there is so many things it can be. also do not use sand paper at all to clean clutches use only fine or xtrafine scotchbrite pads and acetone then blow dry
  8. to bad to hear news like that, get well. and cliff if you need anything at all don't hesitate to call, you know i drive by every morning/night
  9. When my goodyear rep seen me about to put bfg at ta's on my truck he offered me the new (at the time) wrangler silent armour and i am glad he did after using them for a year 1/2 now they are the quietest all terrain tire i have ever used and have yet to have any issues getting stuck in all different kinds of terrain, in one test last year my seirra with wranglers against my bosses he had hankook snow tires i had the wranglers i kicked his butt in traction through ice snow and slush (we were all pretty suprised) in the end the biggest advantage over the bfg's is fuel mileage with the silent armours using kevlar sidewalls the bfg uses triguard sidewalls which are much heavier, but regardless which one's you use there all good tires. there is a mail in rebate on goodyear tires untilll december 5 /09 www.goodyear.ca
  10. wanna see me on it Dave so far can't think of anything to make it better, so far so good keep it up
  11. mike. as was mentioned it is discountinued bps had them on sale a while back for $60, i do have one and it works ok if you need a reel with a flippen switch ( i use it bottom bouncing ) my issues with the reel are cosmetic. the body of the reel chips way to easy a one year old reel has more boat rash on it then a pair of 8 year old chronarchs (which have a zillion miles on them) performance wise it works just fine for an inexpensive reel my only complaint is i feel the handle is to small when cranking. I will put a big + on saving your money for a better baitcaster, there isn't much better than an e7 curado in the $200 range its comfy well made and most importantly fishes like a dream and takes more abuse than you can throw at it! I also have a abu revo sx thats in that price range 11 bearing reel little heavier than the curado so far i like it really fast spool but have only put one summer on it so far fit and finish is great durability maybe next year I'll get an idea, but so far at least 100 bass still good
  12. if you can get a unit with the universal sonar GET it makes the deck of the boat better orginized and less chance of pinching wires on the transducers (found out about this the hard way) plus the transducer is recessed slightly in the trolling motor head and is less likely to get damaged from impacts
  13. I have had nothing but bad luck with p-line maybe i got a couple bad spools for the most part if i am not using braid i use trilene xt on cranking rods. Almost use seagar exclusivly as leader material, but if were to spool up with any flouro it would be silver thread it been the nicest casting to date for me, though i have heard good things about the newer trilene pro grade.
  14. I wouldnt do a muskie of anysize the injustice of holding it vertically or hanging it off a hook to weigh it, but that being said i would say 20-24lb max max max nice fish but as an angler we can all embellish a bit can't we? my biggest fish was 52" big fat october fish and it was somewhere between 33-36 lbs as a guess it would eat the fish he's holding.
  15. you'll understand when you make 2000 cast in a day it's all about fatigue, I'll even invite you up and let you fish with me there sonny just to see the difference, you'll be gettin an extra job as i did. my first expensive rod was when i was 16 y o my parents near killed me when i bought a berkly bionix 6.6 for $122 from barklays and two weeks later bought a shimano gtx 2200r for 75 but from there i never looked back, I just broke the bionix that i purchased in 1987 when it got slammed by the trolling motor pedal and i have the reel somewhere still works pretty good last time i used it (ok it was around 2000 on the ottawa river but who's counting)
  16. good to see they got one of thoses dude's i grew up fishing in that area and it was and still is a great bass fishery
  17. ther ok rods i find them and the rapala ts2 rods heavy and not overly sensitive, but then again after saving my $$ for the last 25 years or so i am spoiled higher end gear, pretty tough to use bob izumi rods when your used to crucial's avid's and legends the chapest rod i own is a rapala type S i use it for frogs with a curado 100 and it's ok but it is still heavier than my legend 7'6 pitchen rod with a shimano core V
  18. i have the manual at home the v-4 and the v-6 produce max power at 4800rpm though i can run mine at 5100
  19. the regular police can and will lay charges under the fish and game act so why not call the cops? I have seen plenty of co's out protecting what actually needs protecting. i have regularily seen them fishing the boq, kawrartha's haliburton, ottawa river ect. I don't think spending extra monies to enforce tribs in the fall is very cost effective seeing the salmon will be dead in a week or so of entering the river and they don't reproduce and were stocked as a put and take fishery. I say close the fall extended season if it's that big a problem, then everyone get's a ticket
  20. as usual an awesome report and pics greg, that looks like a new rig your driving there what kind of boat you running this year?
  21. the 115 i would guess is a intruder/faststrike v4? while they are great engines they can have issues. is your water spray warm or hot? i had a similar problem this year running with a plugged intake lots of water at idle but no enough volume at plane and it activated the slow system. (now i have a water pressure guage) you could even have a stuck t-stat you do have two of them and when was the last time you reversed flush the enging? just throwing some of this out there
  22. just don't forget to pack some gravol it can get real rough at the end of the lake
  23. my ranger has the same floors, looks like regular marine carpet to me, Dave at Hirks did the carpet in his Allison bass boat, ask him for advice as well he can order marine carpet for you as well
