  4. it would depend on the boat your putting it on and how it's stored I had a merc 9.9hp 4.stroke on a 12 ft cartopper boat it weighed in at 112lbs it was to much for me a battery and a motor had to move the battery to the front of the boat no big deal, it started good and ran great used little fuel but couldn't troll below 1.4 mph, the pain in the butt was walking up and down a set of stairs with it to put on the boat awkward to carry, but I would say that if your putting it on a boat to trailer around and only remove in the fall for storage then good to go. If your gonna remove the motor on a regular basis for whatever reason i would go with the 2-stroke just for the ease of carrying the thing
  5. if the base of it will fit on the legend and the shaft is long enough I can't see it being a problem, but it looks like you may be a bit short on the nose of boat.

I have been using the die-hard line of batterys, i use the dual purpose 24 series to crank and run my electronics, I believe it's only 140 mins reserve but i havn't had any problems with draining the battery yet even when spending 5-6 hours casting still starts the evinrude 150hp good and i run the hds-8 as well as a hummingbird colour unit on the front. But i also keep some boostercables in the boat just in case, i figure it's not a matter of if but a matter of when i'll be left with a dead battery. Also check your water levels and keep all your batterys charged I plug in after every trip on the water and can knock on wood to no problems. the diehard line is distributed by east penn battery who also distributes the powersurge and bps line of batterys
  7. the opp can lay charges under the fish and game act, call them they will usually respond. I was out Sunday playing around, seen ya Cliff but wasn't about to go where there was 9 other boats anchored off burned a tank exploring the rest of the lake
  8. At the end of the day pick the car you like. I see these models everyday in the shop i can't say the dollar amount to repair is really any different between them they just arrive with different problems, havn't seen anything major with any of these cars built in the last 5 years or so. follow oem guidelines they will last for years and years my own personal choice would be the civic as i like slightly sportier cars. I agree with Bernie on the vw, quality issues abound but if you get a good one there great cars. I drive a 2003 hyundai tiburon with 500000km been a great car little maintanance other than following oem guidlines actually has cost me less in repairs than my 160000km seirra theres goods and bad one from every brand enjoy what ever you end up with
  9. whatever you chose make sure it's a true deep cycle and not a dual purpose for your trolling motor, currently run two diehard dc27 and it'll run my 65lb maxxum all day with no problems, now when i tried that with my dp27 (dual purpose) lasted about 5-6 hours interstate are a good brand as well as east penn battery they make the diehard line and powersurge optimas i don't have much expierance with but heard good things
  10. there is the base lowrance maps, go into your menu and check it out i have the hds-8 and there is all kinds of things you can do for set-up
  11. look and see if it has a timing belt, many 4 stroke outboards had them, after several years valve clearance measurment may be required, other than that change the oil's check your linkage adjustments, clean the carbs, chack and charge your batterys and verify charging system performance good to go fishing, may also want to change your water pump impeller

  13. one of the problems on sturgeon where ice fishing is allowed for the first time is the sleds have been running at speed for years and years over the same areas and now we have some huts put up and ice fisherman not covering there old holes before they leave leaving a hardened slush bump which at the very least is good for a spine tingler at worst i seen one sled get written off this year. The best advice is know before you go. i always do a slow tour of the lake to see where everyone is and any hazards on the ice before i giver er
  14. what do you want for an answer? if 87 octane was available without ethanal then i would use that in siitting equipent as for what other think that is fine but there is usually not a problem going up in octane.
  15. no problem- while it may seem like a waste of money for a low compression engine, the ethanol blended fuels attract water and promote corossion of the fuel system compoments due to becoming acidic over time when used condstantly they don't seem to cause much of a problem, but when equipment sits for long periods it causes issues. the slightly extra money is worth it
  16. just change the spark plug first it probably fouled up (even new) before losing your mind. it's usally the simplest things that cause these problems, if not the plug try draining the float bowl and check for gum/varnish. once it's running again i would recommend that you use gasoline with NO ethanol like shell premium and a good stabilizer for the periods that it sits
  17. all kinds of lakes in the area that can be productive, my best advice is to stop at the south algoungin cookhouse excellent food and decide from there

  19. gagnon's in oshawa had some 8's and 10's in stock when i stopped in last week

I put a 9.9 4 stroke on my 12ft and it couldn't troll slow enough slowest it got was 1.3 mph but i could go around the lake for a week on a tank of gas, if i needed to troll slower i just through out a drift sock, but the 4 stroke was way to heavy for the back of the boat, if your useing a 2 stroke there shouldn't be any issues with slow trolling or weight my little boat would do 22 mph on gps by myself or 17-18 with two guys and gear more than enough speed for that tin missle! also has a older 6hp johnson on it worked ok but wasn;t winning any races
  21. I put an hds-8 on the ranger with the platinum+ chip the 3d view is amazing and can't beat the detail on the graph. pretty straight foward to use, in the futre would like to network another hds-7 for the front of the boat and get rid of the bird
  22. Hirk helped my with my 363 ranger and is worth talking to on any issues, bbc boards have some very skilled people into restorations bookmark that site! Any help with your livewells bilges ect and electrical issues shoot me a pm have done most of these issues on my ranger already and there pretty straightfoward

  24. really iremember looking at them and a 1157 was around 3200, i got the hds 8 for 2050 but is was still around 380 for the chip and I havn't seen the price of the module yet
