Well there's always the option of coming up to Barrie, fish right at the foot of Bayfield St, there's parking right nearby and a couple of picnic tables at hand. Shore fishing will get you a variety of panfish with the odd bass and pike thrown in if you are lucky. If you get bored of that, you can take a quick walk or drive around to Centennial beach, about 1/4 mile around the bend right by the water fountain. Bait is available at Simcoe Bait and Tackle at the corner of Innisfil Rd and Tiffin St. Good luck.

If you have a a car, come west on highway #90. about 12km west of Barrie, upon entering the village of Angus(sometimes the "G" has tape over it), right at the first old steel bridge, you'll see the Salmon fest trailer on the right. About 100 meters further on the left side of the highway is the entrance to the old conservation office parking lot. Stop in there and watch. Essa township requires you obtain a Township permit, $20, but if you enter the Salmon fest for a bit more, it's included for the year. I believe the permits are available at the library in town or the Home Hardware.

Ya, mine at work still has the same problem as Hooked and Steve, shows about the first 4 or 5 topics, and then will only go to the first 2 posts to that topic. We did it in about 5 hours, leave very early in the morning, about 0200, drive X crountry, Barrie, Anus, Alliston,Guelph, London, cross at Windsor, trhu Detroit, back home late that night. People do the darndest things to save a minutes extra effort of adding a ground wire, I guess thats one of them, same for running a proper ground wire all the way back to the light bracket on trailers.

There is a boat launch about 300 meteres east of the park right across from the lights at #26 and Grey Rd 19(?), you may have to push/pull a bit, a little shallow right now. How far out, oh gawd, nothing that close right now, maybe a few bass hanging around the shoals....did I mention PROP biting shoals, you'll see what I mean, all sorts of little "islands" popping up, made of rocks that bite props. Be careful with a shallow 14' boat, it can get extremely rough out there in a hurry.

In general it applies more to boats with downriggers because the steel cable takes the charge all the way down to the ball, although I did measure a bit of u/amp current flow from +12 to the water around the back of the boat. Best thing to do is totally avoid using an aluminum hull as the return ground to battery, use an actual wire to complete the circuit, isolate all electrical contacksts from any other metal surface. I would tend to believe your diagnostic is correct, alternator is going FUBAR. Take off the battery cables, positive and negative, slacken off the belt or serpentine belt, remove the alternator. Draw a diagram to show where the wires go, something like Murphy's Law will make you forget how to reinstall them correctly. Take said suspicious alternator to your local Canadian Tire, for NO Charge, they will put it on the test machine, give it a spin and tell you within a minute or less if it's still up to specs. I had to replace one on my '91 Jetta, $69, my long gone POS '94 Chev, $160, and they come with a good warranty, KEEP THE RECEIPT...Like Hop Singh says "No tikky, No laundry" Installation costs, a couple of dirty hands, bruised knuckles if you're a real cave man with no finesse, go find a buddy that can play with nuts...and bolts. And lastly, RTFI, it says, install ALL the wires on the alternator BEFORE replacing the battery cables, there's a reason for this. You may well fry the diodes if you don't, and that's not covered. Go forth and wrench...

A lot of mfgr's don't recommend doing that, a sure way to screw the alternator and the other electronics. You might be able to do that with a 1960'70's car or truck, but not the newer ones.

Man, that's a looooong hump. Drove it a few times, learned that the best time to drive it is night, it's like watching paint dry. Rule one, never let the tank get below half, rule two, when it's at half, fill it up. Even though there's a lot of little "dots" on the prairie map, they may just be 2 grain silos and a gas pump that's not open. If your not into stopping in Calgary/Edmonton and want to save a bit of road time, once you are west of Winnipeg, take #16, Yellowhead highway, from Portage la Prairie westbound. Have a good trip whichever way you go.

For the initial use, I would just use it in the auto mode. If you have the manual, read it. Then read it again. And a few more times. You'd be surprised what you miss. Then try it in the manual mode, without fishing, just doodle around with it and notice the difference. Remember what the sensitivity bar is showing in the auto and use about the same in the manual mode. If you don't have the book, you can download them from the www.lowrance.com site. And turn off the Fish ID if it has one.

Seeing as how "some" brand of toothpaste from you know where comes loaded with antifreeze, I can just imagine what the wine will be loaded with.

If that noise spooks fish, then all the ones I caught were deaf. That noise happens around 2.8km/h, seems to be the speed that salmon want the lure to go.
