  1. CH 16 for emergency only, some areas use 68, 71,72 as the " chatter channels". Take a VHF operators course, it's worth the effort for those who have no background in using that type of comms.
  2. Good deals can usually be gauged by how much the battery weighs, the lighter batteries have less lead in them and although they fit the same size as all group 31 batteries, their service life will not be as long. Buying a good quality battery will cost a "bit" more than that. If you are happy with that deal and take good care of the battery, you can get a few more years out of them. Up to you. The only ones I don't believe in ar ethe "Spiral" wound or Optima type, far too much money for their output.
  3. Just something about Esso that annoys me, first the fire to make prices go up, then the power outage, what's next. I prefer the Amsoil Synthetic, no smoke, no plug fouling.
  4. General rule for engines of that vintage is 24:1 oil mix. As for the battery, get the largest by weight, (thickness of lead plates), group 31, Interstate, or Trojann Batteries.
  5. Faster, ..fasters not the word, first try I couldn't figure out what happened, click the mouse see a new page, like right now...excellent.
  6. Uh oh, better check the rules on daily catch and consumption... What you consume on the day caught counts towards that days catch, so NO you don't go back and forth ten times to feed your extended family. 2 whities per person per day.
  7. 80's to early 90's,then they went to silvery colour, still make them.
  8. Gut them, brine them and then smoke them. The skin is like leather, run a sharp tip knife just under the skin and peal it back, very good eating.
  9. Just be careful out there, just took a look at this, http://www.theweathernetwork.ca/weather/ci...es/CAON0259.htm, I think I'll try and keep breakfast inside, no feeding the fish..
  10. Like Polliwogg said, switch, Off/White/White,Red/Green, 16ga stranded is sufficient with a fuse on the +12V where it connects to the battery before the switch. Try to position the switch to keep it out of the rain/spray, they tend to corrode easily.
  11. I call TLTL, go look at map C, then scroll down to the exceptions listing, it shows all the lakes, takes about a minute.
  12. Sure, use the same type of float switch that's used to start the bilge pump. When the float rises, it closes the switch to turn on the pump or horn in your case.
  13. As said by Bill about the classifieds, you see someone show up and start to unload. Maybe there should be a minimum number, how many, to be determined by those that own/administrate the forums.
  14. Can you get a big plastc garbage can under it, fill it so the water level is at least over the anti cavitation plate? If so, get the water level up as ligh as you can, start it up and it should shoot water within seconds. If no water comes out, turn it off and then go for further diagnostic, ie, take off the lower unit and inspect the impellor, replace if necessary.
  15. Well then why not call the MNR and let them deal with his disregard of the rules, we can't go raiding his freezer.
  16. That's like test running an engine without oil, a total no brainer.
  17. If it was the thermostat, why did water come through on the first run...if it's closed, water runs through the bypass.
  18. This is a real simpleton one, the Canadian version of American WMD's, just we call it Weapons of Cash Destruction, they must be some gullible.
  19. That's a good one, just too many disgruntled people with hummincrows, and we all know where the crows hang out, around the garbage can.
  20. That's okay, I'm working days, fri/sat/sun, peace and quite.
  21. Man what are you breathing over on the other side of the lake, notice I didn't say "smokin" or standing beside someone that is and inhaling exhaled, pre-sampled smoke. If you're adamant about celebrating the day for what it is noted for, then it shouldn't matter that you can't make along weekend out of it. Bad enough we can't say Christmas or stick up a Christmas tree in public, now someones trying to move a relevant day in history. And no SMILEY!
  22. 5.8L eh? I've heard of a 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and the 8.1 Unless someone grafted a Ford to a GM
  23. A1. Don't be pulling the transducer cable so fast, I use an OLD X-40 Lowrance, about 1989 vintage, and have been able to get the adapter cable from Lowrance in Missausage, on Matheson Dr. Call the they will help. A4. I had a hand held VHF, good for around the harbour, but when you are out there and need help, you just can't beat the 25 watts of the fixed mount radio. Price wise, there's almost no difference. Get a quality antenna, BPS has 8' foot models, along with the stainless mount.
  24. Call the dealer on this, otherwise your boat trailer may become myteriously equipped with a "front bumper". Better safe than loosing a boat at 100k/mh.
