A friend of mine runs a long line boat off the Florida coast and the same rule applies because it would be a way to keep out of slot fish and sell them for thousands of dollars at the dock. It is tough he said to watch an undersized bleeding tuna released right into the pack of sharks that swarm the boat when they are pulling their line. Art

The point is to stock fish for everyone. Once they are in the water it is up to the MNR to make sure the fish are harvested in a legal manner. Not stocking because the resource can be abused is a poor argument for not stocking. It is giving up without attempting to correct an issue. The bright side of the stocking is to show the tourist that their is an effort to bring the fishery back to former glory and that generates an influx of money from another economy that is the best kind of prosperity you can get. The only time I almost bought leeches the joker put the leeches in a 16 oz measuring cup with water and tried to sell them to me as a LB of leeches. Art

If you want to smoke out the skeeters pour a small amount of trans fluid down the carburetor with the engine running man it fogged the area so bad you could not see ten feet. BTW this was a 64 nova with no electronics or anti pollution stuff to mess up. Art

Petition to allow more walleye restocking on Lake Nipissing
aplumma replied to LNSA_'s topic in General Discussion
Well said Dan, I have personally met with Dan and while most of our talks were about toothy critters it is obvious that he has a passion for the Lake. The LNSA is a group of people that I had a chance to tour one of the Walleye raising area with Kevin while visiting Lak Air a few years back. There is nothing fancy or expensive about it the major improvement that they wanted to show me was an air induction system powered my a windmill. The funding at that time came from a small bucket in the lodge at Lak Air and other grass roots collection points. The point of the restocking is to increase the number of fish for EVERYONE to use including the locals, Natives or most importantly (for the influx of cash) tourist both foreign and domestic. Art -

I actually do not subscribe to bad and good luck. The times that I do not catch fish is the days that I did not understand where or what they wanted. Sometimes it is just not possible to get bitten and I went fishing anyway choosing to accept that the weather or conditions would make a skunk very possible. That usually happens when I travel up North to fish where we fish every day regardless. On a "badluck" day look at what the conditions are and change something be it location, bait, timing, or other factor. By looking for the missing piece of the puzzle you increase you chances of catching fish instead of plugging on with a pattern that is not working. A tough day of fishing is an education. Art

I am a few weeks ahead of you on the cat timeline. This is the time as the water warms up that the fish will be heading to the spawn. The channel cats are waiting for 70 F water to head to the beds. The sure sign that it is occurring is the catching of small immature cats in places that a week ago brought in nice size ones. Once the males start to build the nest they get lockjaw till the nest is empty, Often 21-30 days. The females will move in to the shallows looking for a mate and then move back off to deeper water on the points to feed. The females will be pretty beat up mostly on the tails from the spawn and as the scars fade the males will appear very hungry. In a month from the spawn you will have a great time catching both large fish again. Enjoy Art

Cast iron cutter will not work. There is a similar looking device for cutting exhaust pipes but much smaller called a chain wheel cutter. I use a 18 volt grinder with a keef or cut off blade to cut metal pipes and bolts when the plasma cutter is not around. Art

Acetone can be used safely but it needs to be well ventilated when used in large amounts. Here is the safety sheet for it http://mfc.engr.arizona.edu/safety/MSDS%20FOLDER/Acetone.pdf It is one chemical that I didn't treat with enough respect and thankfully only got a blinding headache for 2 days as a penalty. The fuel cell can be removed but make sure you replace it with one that is rated for being covered. You can not put a mobile cell in, The fiberglass cells are prone to dissolving in ethanol so plastic or aluminum is preferred. Wires are not scary if you take your time. I usually replace all of the wiring and make my own loom but if that is not something you are comfortable with then you can get assorted wire connector blocks and cut them and install the disconnect as you go. The 2 plates that you remove to remove the fuel cell need to be reinstalled for support. Electronic shops or auto store sell the disconnects or on line is also a good option. The most important thing is to take your time it took me over 2 months to get a Ranger back together. Art

I once got my anchor snagged and after cleating off and a back drag I retrieved another anchor. The new anchor was a 28lb modified plow so it now sits in place of my old one. Art
