  1. Are you familiar with the area? Never made it there myself, but like Pointe Au Baril there are a lot of rocks, shoals? A lot more caution is needed at night! Worm harness slow trolled in shallower water (6-10 feet) first break near shore, edges. 5-7 inch shallow running rapala, cast it, troll it near shore. jig and worm or jig and pork-plastic rattle trap style lures cast parallel to shore, pick a depth. shallow-medium running crankbaits. Points, edges of shoals, shoreline breaks shallow to deep, flats, long channels between islands can be migration paths, doesn't hurt to try them. They will come shallower at night to feed.
  2. Them creature lures seem to have been a lot more common years ago. Ducks, muskrat, giant frogs lures were common years ago.
  3. I never caught a walleye on a surface lure, but have caught them on other types of lures in 2-4 feet of water.
  4. Not the same thing, but we hooked a lot of steelhead trolling crankbaits searching for smallies this time of year on Lake Erie.
  5. Everything I am seeing shows them at 5-1 with 4-1 bearings? Line recovery per handle turn varies, more so when you go between spinning and casting reel. I used old Abu baitcasters (1960's) with a 3 something retrieve, not the best suited for smallie fishing at the time, you had trouble cranking fast enough when they were coming up, never had that problem with the same era Mitchell 300 spinning reel. Walleye aren't known for blazing runs, like steelhead or salmon? A faster retrieve helps when using some surface lures, just my view it isn't always needed.
  6. Cool pics! Bay of Fundy is the one with the crazy tides? Years ago one of my uncles took his family up there on vacation, he got his car stuck in an area affected by the tides and had to get a tow before they came in! They were clam digging or looking for sea shells I think?
  7. With one exception, every muskie I hooked was lost, and as I recall all with lures of various sizes, steel leaders didn't seem to help me, the one I landed was small, 3-5 pounds on bass tackle with no steel leader. I have seen a couple of pike struggling with bluegill - perch they took the wrong way and had them stuck in their throat, none with a lure though.
  8. LOL, got to love crown royal bags! Great for reel storage!
  9. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Daiwa-Team-Daiwa-TD1-Hi-Reel-/302082297810?hash=item4655820fd2:g:kLMAAOSwLF1X4vfs Only saw that one on ebay, just from the style I am guessing a late 80's or early 90's reel? Everyone I knew used Abu or Shimano baitcasters.
  10. Way to go kiddo!
  11. Cool! Your reel even has the handle on the right side!
  12. landry, hidden weight or sinks on it's own?
  13. I have a 2009 Chevy van with around 35,000 miles on it, I haven't driven anywhere since 2011 and haven't had a license in around 3 years. My van sits for weeks at a time on a gravel driveway unless my son decides to drive it, just had to have one of the rotors cleaned up because it developed a rust spot that was causing dragging and pulling. It could be something very simple to correct? My mom gave me my dad's car when he died, it had sat for a couple years, and sat here, I just started it and ran it every so often. The first time I tried to take it somewhere? I got as far as my corner, when I hit the brakes, one of the front rotors collapsed from rust and locked up, I could back up, but not go forward. It may seem odd to use grease around brakes, but since I am disabled I paid to have a brake job done on my old van, a first for me, I always did my own, they didn't properly grease the slides and the pads started sticking.
  14. My dad started us off crappie fishing when we were 5 years old, we didn't keep them unless they were 10 inches long minimum.
  15. Great pictures and ouch!
  16. Sorry to hear that Lew! I still miss fishing!
  17. I was in my garage doing some things before going to work with the garage TV on CNN and heard the report of the first plane hitting. Like npt mentioned about the plane hitting the Empire State building, it's NYC, lots of plane and helicopter traffic, there was a lot of uncertainty in the reporting, the second plane hitting ended that. I drove an 18 wheeler at the time, when I got to work they had a meeting to establish security and safety procedures. Don't stop for anyone that isn't law enforcement, beware of people following you, especially if you have a placarded load, unless you are in a customer's dock? don't leave your truck anywhere you can't see it. Shaky day, at every stop that day a tv or radio was on! My now ex wife had a lot of family in the Somerset PA area where one plane went down, she got and made a lot of calls that day. A tragedy, and wingnuts here think it was a government conspiracy!
  18. LOL, the Salmon and all other species are safe from me! I would have issues holding a rod without a fish on the other end! Just curious was all, I know Ohio stopped stocking Salmon years ago and went with Steelhead instead, not sure how much of a successful spawn even they have in Ohio waters of Lake Erie.
  19. Thanks John, just curious if there was a point to releasing them.
  20. Don't the Salmon have limited lifespans? Spawn and die?
  21. A Mister Twister frog on a trailer hook on the back of a spinner bait used to work well. http://www.mistertwister.com/information/hawg-frawgreg/365#description~3HFO5%20N2010 They have changed the color patterns.
  22. Spinnerbaits aren't just bass lures! My biggest walleye came on one up north, the very next cast I got a 12-14 inch crappie on it! Muskie and pike will eat them too!

  24. Don't feel bad about the boat! My dad took a 16 foot Lyman ( heavy wood boat ) to Lady Evelyn Lake, they tied it up to the dock tight, and during the night the water rose and sunk it! They wasted the better part of a day trying to get it out.
