Musky Lures? (bit of a tall fish tale as well)
OhioFisherman replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
Muskie have a hard time recovering from a lengthy fight, you want to land and release as quickly as possible. That bass was on the small size for muskie bait! -
Yep! That's the one I have, in a couple of sizes and colors.

I think it's our water! We need Canada's!

Have you seen some of the handguns available to the public here? Police and military style with 15 to 30 round magazines you can change out in a few seconds? and no limit on how many magazines you can buy or own? At close range, as in a nightclub or school, they are just as deadly as an assault rifle. You need a license and testing here to drive a vehicle, but not to own a gun, but what is a test for crazy?

http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/crawler-worm-harness/195903.aspx Don't know if this is the same? In the closeout bin? For some of those small companies an out of business sale might be cheaper than fixing a problem?

You might look on youtube and see if there are any videos showing how to do it? It could make deciding on a diy project easier? I had a 1975 SeaRay with a Merc I/O, don't know what has changed, but they had to be in forward gear when you removed the out drive or were a real pain to get back together.

I don't know Lake St Clair, but Lake Erie was a no no with a 20 mile an hour breeze in my 17 footer.

I have a couple in the barn that have a metal lip, jointed, I got them back in the 1980's. I think they were intended as salt water lures, deep divers. They looked like something a walleye or pike would eat.

Trolling Motor Batteries (x2) - assume price no object
OhioFisherman replied to Steve's topic in General Discussion
I have used Interstate and Nautilus deep cycle boat batteries, I always got a lot more than a year out of them, usually 4-5, and I spent a lot of time on the electric motor. Have your purchase receipts? some have pro rated warranties after a year? -
Detroit was known as Murder City back in the day, a pistol grip handle might have kept the bad guys at bay?

Braided line back then was far different than the braids of today! Nylon and Dacron were soft, I used both as a kid on my casting reels, early mono had a tendency to be stiff, I never even liked using a spinning reel because of it, then Berkley introduced the original Trilene, which was much better.
-
Braided line was the " thing " in those days, mono-filament was a new deal and was rarely seen on anything but a spinning reel. Nylon or Dacron braid, Dacron didn't have much stretch.

I used to cross at the Fort Erie Peace Bridge and take the road alongside the river on our trips to the falls. Sometimes we would stop at one of the pull offs there and take a closer look at the river, that current is pretty impressive! As I recall there were places were you could see weeds in the water (summer-fall), so the water couldn't have been all that deep? Less than 15 feet? If you're after walleye, and this early in the year? There is probably not a good reason for them to be parked on the bottom? It's not like the water is warm? Try casting a heavier jig and grub tipped with a piece of crawler or minnow?

I drove an 18 wheeler for 30+ years, it's sort of amazing to look down and see what some people are doing behind the wheel! LOL I stopped driving around 5 years ago, MS, I decided it was beyond my abilities to do so safely. I do believe it is a problem everywhere though, in some areas more than others? I live in a small rural township near a junction of two state highways, it has a one way traffic circle at the junction, only the north and south part have stop signs, none on the east and west part. People can't seem to read the stop signs or travel in the direction of the arrows? Dirt bikes, 4 wheelers, and snowmobiles aren't allowed on our roads here, that doesn't seem to stop them, or keep them from taking off across some one Else's property if they see a cop. There is no perfect world? You just hope not to injure or kill some one " by accident "?

Ontario to spend $7-billion on sweeping climate change plan

http://abcnews.go.com/US/water-levels-lake-mead-reach-record-lows/story?id=39235749 " The water levels in Lake Mead, the man-made reservoir that serves about 20 million residents in Nevada, Arizona and California, is at an all-time low, according to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. " Who thought promoting millions of people to move into an area that was mostly desert was a good plan? The profits have been made, the taxpayers get the bill? -
The visibility in Lake Erie here has improved over the years, but even as a kid it was easy to notice the difference in water clarity between here and up north. Once the farmers fields dry out enough for them to start plowing and planting here near shore areas will be even worse. The wet spring so far might make for a successful walleye spawn here? Not as much silt runoff because the fields aren't plowed yet?

40,000 Lake Trout released into Lake Erie
OhioFisherman replied to Steelheadphycho's topic in General Discussion
One of my younger brothers was into the Salmon and trout fishing a lot more than me, he claimed my dad caught a laker fishing for walleye with him in the deeper waters of the central basin of Lake Erie years ago. -
LOL, at least they could see the car? I am guessing that shoreline areas here are not going to have that kind of water clarity!
