  1. LOL, ya black doesn't seem to work anywhere for a jig color.
  2. It can be tough to find good ones even here in the states with a bigger market, some of the people making them really cheap out on the hook quality. I used ones like this for years, they would catch just about anything, and some big fish for a 1/8th ounce lure. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Castlebaits-Bucktail-Hair-Jig-Olive-2pk-1-8oz-/112142913280?hash=item1a1c3d0f00:g:-VkAAOSwNRdX4SRX I took Uncle Josh pork grubs and threaded rubber from a koosh ball I took apart to make legs on the grub. Ebay has a lot of them listed, but most are USA locations.
  3. There are rivers here I wouldn't eat a fish from!
  4. The fall feed, they are looking for food and wander.
  5. We used to do a September trip every year, try the channel between Payne's and Brignall's, no numbers, but some biggies.
  6. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish_hook I don't believe that is the case and I see no reference to it, there are hooks that have barbs on the hook shank for that purpose. It is hard to find large minnows in this area unless you happen to be near one of the lakes that has a population of big catfish or muskie. I used to fish at times for large minnows for bait, a tiny piece of worm or maggot on a size 10-12 hook with the barb flattened down, surprising how many of them can shake themselves free. Some lake and ponds here have golden shiners in them 10-12 inches long, bigger than I cared to use, but a 6-8 was fine for bass here. Easy to damage a baitfish removing a barbed hook.
  7. 57 is easily within their comfort range, find baitfish? feeding areas? A jig and twister tail? tip it with a piece of crawler or gulp? Swim it slow, cover water?
  8. I do agree on the trebles, when fishing bass tournaments I tried to avoid them if I could.
  9. The idea of a barb is to help keep a fish from throwing the hook, if you're not concerned with landing it why not? Of course flattening the barbs will help reduce injury, cutting the hooks off a lure will reduce it a lot more!
  10. I have a few of the old Diawa Heartland rods, they worked well for me.
  11. http://www.daiwa.com/us/service/faq/index.html " HOW DO I FILE A WARRANTY CLAIM? 12. http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2014/sep/09/eric-bolling/does-us-have-highest-corporate-tax-rate-free-world/ It's easy to say that the USA has the highest corporate tax rate, but they never seem to mention the rate they actually end up paying? I'm sure no jobs have left our country for cheap foreign labor or less government oversight on pollution controls?
  13. LOL, it seems every year someone catches a good sized one here fishing from shore with crawlers.
  14. Congrats to both of you! Dang you looked young!
  15. My dad was there once, like 50 years ago and in the spring. Not sure I would focus on 30-40 feet of water, it's October and the water is cooling, I would probably start a lot shallower 6-10 feet.
  16. I believe the water that comes out of the tattle tale is actually part of the water used to cool the engine.
  17. " Their overlap in Texas, Missouri and Kansas will likely raise antitrust concerns. " ? What about WalMart? I don't see that as being a serious issue?
  18. What a nice guy! No reason to embarrass the fish!
  19. Cool! I wonder how much food supply affects their growth in length? it seems to make them thicker?
  20. Things are looking rough for the east coast!
  21. http://www.cleveland19.com/story/33297219/lake-eries-walleye-hatch-below-normal-this-year Not sure how it affects the walleye population in Lake Erie overall.
  22. I was actually looking for information on the Moon when I found this board years ago, I had been to Pointe Au Baril many times and was looking for some place a little closer and more family friendly since my kids were younger. My impression was it was like the Pointe also, just a new challenge. Illness and disability prevented me from ever making that trip, and within a few years fishing even locally ended for me. Rattletraps, search baits, and you never know what might hit them, bass, walleye, pike or skis, a spinnerbait might be worth a shot too, my biggest walleye anywhere came on one at the Pointe, on the very next cast I got an out sized crappie on it. Good luck!
  23. It's a conspiracy! LOL, now that they finally have a store near me I can't fish!
