Dropshotting for Species Other Than Bass
OhioFisherman replied to Golfisher's topic in General Discussion
The name is new and the idea with the drop shot weights is you lose the weight that is cheaper than losing the bait. You can do the same thing pegging a slip sinker on the line, pressure on a snag will pull the slip sinker off. Good idea Ben, never tried that. Craw tube on the bottom and minnow tube above it? Give the bass a choice? -
LOL Rick build a maze it concentrates firepower.

Ya some of the mepps spinners came with minnows on them that looked like those.

Cool, is it normal to see that many together? Mom and kids?

LOL Redneck! Tiger Muskie? are you sure it isn`t a walleye? Spring gaff or spear for me if they got teeth! Just kidding! LOL I like lipping fish! -
LOL wait until after the holiday and they start talking again in Washington, there will be plenty of hot air! The cold front was caused by the jets leaving town for the weekend sucking the cold down!

I applied to be one down here in like 1976, the city I was living in had an add in the paper. I made the application and received a card in the mail to take a civil service test for the job. That was as far as I got in the process, I had already found another job driving a truck, it paid better, I didn`t have to go to Cleveland for training, a plus, and I didn`t have to jump out of an 80 foot tower into a net, also a plus. Down here some cities(smaller) have volunteer firemen, big cities have a regular force, 24 hours on duty at the station and 48 hours off. We used to get a lot of them working part-time on the truck docks on their time off. The pay wasn`t bad, benefits were good, and there is a lot of job security, but dangerous work.

LOL Bob they had cars back then? My brothers memory is a bit better than mine, our first trip was to Beaver lake, somewhere around Kingston?
-
LOL my first trip to Ontario was in a 1953 Pontiac wagon in 1957, the roads are better now. The old pictures are cool but I am glad some things have changed. Fish back then were dead once caught, eaten, mounted, or freezer burnt and buried.

Congrats! Just in time for bass season? you don`t need the dipseys or down riggers, LOL.

You people are doing a great job of keeping this civil! It is a debate and everyone will have their own opinion on it. LOL Wayne will you have fuel for the plane? Might have to stock up on rubber bands? The 3 gorges dam they are building in China is supposed to hold enough water(weight) to alter (slightly) the orbit of the Earth. We open pandora`s box and then try to figure out the problems inside that are released? LOL if Canada cuts it`s emissions we might not have to? I am just guessing, but I don`t think the US will do anything that might affect their role as a super power? Once you have it, it`s hard to give it up? China is doing the same, just took a bit longer to get there.

I don`t know the lake or area, just guessing by June the spawn will be over? A Johnson Silver minnow , the biggest one with a pork frog or rubber trailer is a good lure for swimming thru lily pads or over weed beds, Dardevles, Red Eye spoons, bigger hard baits like a 7 inch Rapala, suicks, magnum Rattle Traps, most of the small muskie or larger bass lures might work. A bigger bass jig with a pork O trailer or bigger size pork frog. Bait will work also, just guessing bait stores may be few and far between up there and getting big chubs or suckers might be a problem? A big chub or sucker will work, you can set them up with a quick strike rig, under a slip float, and I have seen guys troll them. A 40+ inch pike has no problem with an 8 inch chub or bigger live bait. Small coves with deeper water on the entrance, or a flat with a deep edge are good spots to try, a weedy point. If it`s your first time there ask the camp owner for some place to try, and cover some water. Baitfish in an area are a good sign.

How to create demand in sport fishing?
OhioFisherman replied to Bigfish's topic in General Discussion
If you look at bass angling in the states it has a bigger following in states that don`t have hard water and have open an open season all year. I don`t know if the message sent out by B.A.S.S. is the best one for the sport. Most people can`t afford a 40,000 dollar plus bass boat, especially to use part-time because of the weather or closed seasons. Just my opinion that keeps a lot of people from being involved. Again my opinion that allowing people in the tournaments here to fish for spawning fish, pulling them off of beds and then saying you are trying to protect the fishery rings hollow. Taking fish away from the lake site, no matter how much care you use in doing so increases the risk of them not surviving, to satisfy a sponser? For media coverage? To increase the cash flow? We have a variety of tournaments in our area, electric motor only, 10 hp or less, unlimited HP, and others. All fill a nicht, who is a better bass angler? The guy that can spend 40 grand or more on a boat or a guy in a tinny that catches fish in a limited area where the competition is equal? The rising prices of fuel may also affect the sport, 100 bucks for fuel for a days fishing will turn some people off or limit their involvement. After all fishing is entertainment, there are a lot of options to spend your money on. The price of a boat will get you a few weeks a year cabin rental on a lake and time with the family for a number of years and the pace is your choice. That probably is the way to get the kids involved in fishing? I like competition bass fishing, but there are limits as to what I would spend to do it. I can just go fish for a lot less. -

LOL, Glen! must be you, they don`t get that big here! -
I tap mine out from the front using a block of wood and a rubber mallet, set the hub level on a couple pieces of wood. The opening on the front is bigger than the back bearing as long as the wood will fit in the whole in front it should push the rear bearing and seal out. I clean them with a cheap brush and kerosene, it isn`t as flammable as gasoline. Diesel fuel won`t work. There is a method to packing the bearings with grease, put a dab of grease in the palm of your hand, with the other hand force the seam of the bearing race down on it until it squeezes thru the bearings and out the front edge.

LOL douG, we used to do the pig roast with a couple of neighbors here every year. We had someone come over with a cooker made out of a fuel oil tank and cook the pig, it was stuffed with turkeys. Everyone that came brought a covered dish and a tent if they wanted to bon-fire and camp out.
