  1. Never had a boat except the cruiser with a speedometer, idling worked on that for walleye, smallmouth, sheephead, white bass, an occasional perch on Lake Erie. On the smaller boats, tiller or console idling to slow, using the electric speeds 1 to 4. Haven`t trolled much over the last 20 years or so but it can be very effective.
  2. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/27491253#27491253
  3. Caught a lot of fish before I got an electric motor, graphite rod, ugly stick, depth finder, Rapala, zebco reel. 1. Mitchell 300 reel 2. plastic worm 3. for me Stren line, original
  4. LOL Fisherman, when I met my wife all I had in the house was a 13 inch black and white tv. She was sort of shocked, I told her you think I sit here and watch tv? My house is sort of modest, but paid for, after 18 years I even have a porch! LOL Never let your eyes get bigger than your paycheck.
  5. No offense to me stuff happens! 1 in 5 Americans now owes more on their home than it is worth. Homes weren`t meant to be piggy banks, no matter what the bankers tell you. An investment you try to keep! Poor choices made in borrowing and lending. The way jobs are disappearing here I see no quick fix.
  6. Pretty sure it was a chevy engine, a lot of them were around and seemed to be a pretty decent mid-sized engine and drive.
  7. Never fished for Salmon, but Steelhead this late in the year something that imitates a bait fish. I have caught them on small crankbaits (chrome and black) small spoons (cleo`s ect.) tubes (mostly white with silver fleck) white 3 inch jig and grubs. A lot of them around the breakwalls at the river mouths on Lake Erie here in Ohio. A shiner on a slip bobber will work too.
  8. Most of my reels are older, and run from about a 4.7 to 1 to a 6 to 1 retrieve, I do like the slower retrieves for crankbaits but didn`t have a problem with hooksets when I used them for flipping or pitching. At one time they were considered a fast retrieve.
  9. It`s been a while for me and a work out. I used to wear up to 7.5 pounds of ankle weights on each leg while at work, truck driver with lots of stops during the day for pickups and deliveries so I did quite a bit of walking. Wrist weights got in the way while driving so I didn`t use them while driving. Raf is right about using the large muscle masses, they burn the most calories. When I was into it lunch was 2 or 3 cans of Tuna and some cut up fruit, a can of Salmon sometimes instead of the tuna. Dinner was whatever I wanted, Steak, Chicken, with side dishes, then a work out with free weight, the bench, 150 situps, squats, jumping jacks, till it got dark enough for some night fishing. Can`t lose weight or build muscle on the couch watching TV. I was single at the time with not a lot of distractions. Don`t try to be a hero, start easy, warm up, if you go heavy on the bench have a spotter. Just a mind set to it, after a while it becomes fun.
  10. I went there for about 25 years, never this late in the season though, September was my favorite month for just the guys to go. Walleye we got tended to be larger than normal? 4 to 6 pounds, with some much bigger, not really a numbers game there, quality. Caught them on a lot of different lures and live bait, worm harnesses, June bug spinners both tipped with a crawler, 5 to 7 inch floating Rapala`s, perch or silver and black were our favorite colors. Medium diving crankbait, I used Storm wiggle warts but other should work, chrome with a black back. Got my biggest casting a bass style spinnerbait (chartruse and blue) and slow rolling it down a point. 28 inch, buddy got a 31 the same trip. His came on a 6 -8 inch chub in 20 fow. Mine in about 8 feet across the channel. They were in places in September were we never saw or hooked one during the summer months, also in the river where we got them all year. Also got some nice pike in September, 40+ inch fish but it has been years.
  11. I got gas for 3.05 a gallon last time I was out, in some places now 2.84 a gallon in the burbs of Cleveland.
  12. Stamina tackle, Jann`s Netcraft, you might even try contacting Excaliber for a dealers list in your area? Never seen the Excalibers in bulk packs around here in Ohio. I liked them also.
  13. I have never fished for them this late in Ontario, the idea is still the same though, you can`t catch them if you don`t find them. Don`t go with a preconceived idea of where they will be, and don`t get stuck on a pattern that isn`t working because you think it should. We have got them 6 feet deep in July and 20 feet deep in September, no way to tell where they will be. If your fishing with some one else one go shallow and one go deeper, eg, one troll a shallow to medium diving crank bait one a bottom hugging setup like a worm harness. A big minnow or chub can also be fished like that one shallow on a slip float, one near the bottom if you have a partner, see what is catch the most fish, gives you a clue as to the depth you need to concentrate more of your time on. Baitfish, find them find fish, the feed bag should be on, unless your willing to run and gun, trolling may get you on them quicker, you just cover more of an area. Points are usually a good place to start.
  14. Actually some regulations were removed completely.
  15. Sorry Norm, I believe it causes kidney failure.
  16. My boat was nose heavy, under powered, livewell up front and 2 trolling motor batteries, just didn`t want to plan out quickly with fish in the box. I moved my trolling motor batteries to the rear. Less than 14 feet line of sight, I used 6 gauge wire, where ever the wire came in contact with a support I split a piece of garden hose and put it over the wire. Most good auto supply stores will have wire and heavy duty terminal ends, a truck parts store will also.
  17. Personally I have never spent more than 100 bucks on a rod, just never felt it was necessary and never had problems with rods breaking. I have a mix, I pick them by feel not by brand, most are mid range price 40 to 60 bucks, Diawa, Shimano, Abu Garcia, Berkley. Most are fast action, but some medium fast, a couple slower action rods. Just depends on what your comfortable with.
  18. Pretty common to get walleyes, steelhead, sheephead, here drop shotting. It`s a method to fool fish, any fish.
  19. In most cases the number of bites decrease as the size of the lure increases. Most tournaments here need 12 to 16 pounds for a win. Lake Erie and a couple others can throw that off. Better to place well in a number of tournaments than to win just one for an Angler of the year award. Catch a limit first, then go for big fish, if you happen to catch a good fish or two fishing for a limit you have a head start. Just me but not a lure I would be throwing in waters that have Pike and Skis in a bass tournament, to much cost and other cheaper ways to catch a bigger bass. Heavy spinnerbait with a 3 or 4 inch plastic frog for a trailer (bulk it up) 8 or 10 inch worm or lizard. Bites may go down but average size should increase, fine! once you have a limit!
  20. The smartest people in the country running it! Just ask them! Government here has been bought and paid for, for a long time.
  21. I don`t know if yours will work like the stateside version, if they call and you tell them do not call again, even if you have done business with them in the past they have to stop. If I have a problem with one I e-mail my Senators and congressmen. Give them the number and let them figure out if the people don`t understand. I have also posted the numbers with an opinion in the opinion section of the local papers and hammered the politicians for exemptions, ours exempt themselves. To me do not call means that. I get very few calls from people I don`t want calling, but then as a former truck driver I know the language to use.
  22. red assed with a quarter on the dresser Not mine I don`t travel well! Hi Wayne!
  23. http://www.firstprotective.com/index.php?o...&Itemid=187 A better sense of balance also!
  24. Mine was bought long ago but package plans upgrade the motor, mine was rated for 60hp and came with a 35. Should have bumped it up to at least a 50hp, just to get off bigger water faster if the weather gets bad.
  25. Fantastic pictures and report!
