You know the auto industry is screwed when....
OhioFisherman replied to Gerritt's topic in General Discussion
They had a story on the news here about import manufactures leasing more land around Long Beach California to store cars because they are not selling. It`s a mess! New housing starts at the lowest level since they began tracking them in 1959. 40% of all homes on the market are foreclosures. -
Dang buddy! you have been busy! Glad you are doing well!
-
If the track is ever bent the easiest tools to use are a couple Crescent wrenches, tighten then down on the track and you can take the bend right out of them. It`s also an easy way to get a wheel that pops out of the track back in.

They all better leave and come to some place safe! Like Cleveland! -
Gerritt, still have the original garage door opener in my home after 18 years. Original garage door was some kind of fiber board material, painted it a couple of times but it still held moisture making it heavier. Adjusted the up-down tension a couple of times also. Had to replace the plastic gear set inside a couple of times due to breakage from strain. My wife fixed the problem, hit the garage door with her van and I replaced it with a painted steel one.

LOL Norm, 12 ounce beer ok for starters? -
A lot of ponds are dug like that for dirt for overpasses along the highways here in Ohio, some 5 + acres. Never seen one anywhere near 40 feet deep, the hole in the ground looks deep but 12 to 15 feet is about it here. Water also tends to be warmer here, trout don`t do well here in ponds without constant stocking, not really suited to their spawning needs and pan fish play hell with their eggs. Fished one for two years and couldn`t catch any bass of any size, dinks 12 to 14 inch, sometimes a lot of them. I thought they may have been stunted due to lack of food, pond was a bowl, roughly 6 acres, sides tapered off quickly not really suitable for wading. Maximum depth roughly 12 feet, most places 20-30 feet from shore 6 feet. I used big chubs, shiners on a slip float to see if it had bigger fish, water was clear, not many weeds at all and they were thin. All small minnows had got me were small fish, lots of them, went thru a bucket of Lake shiners in an hour one day. A 6 to 8 inch chubs caught me the bigger fish 18 to 22 inch and lost bigger ones, pond was on a cement companies property and some tires from the cement trucks were half floating in the pond, fish adapt, hook one near a tire? It`s the first place they head had some swim thru the tires. Wasn`t any wood or rocks. Made my own slip bobbers for the bigger chubs from craft eggs purchased at a craft store, 4/0 or 5/0 hook. Smaller bass will take them but you can`t usually tell, chub moves around a lot, will come to the surface trying to get away, bigger bass just grabs it and gone. No structure, the edge was the structure, break line from 6 feet to deeper water fish would cruise the edge. Rare to catch more than 2 a day, but 2 20+ bass ain`t a bad day. Boats weren`t allowed, no swimming, and a letter of permission at that one. Pond was always pretty clear even after a rain but I used 14 to 17 pound test Clear blue stren and didn`t have issues with bites. Completely different story with lures, only once in 7 years did I see a decent fish caught on a lure, buddy got it on a white spinnerbait. Couldn`t get a bass at nite at that pond, and I tried, never got a bass of any size on a surface lure there, I was usually the only one there and the only one catching and not just fishing. Most of the bigger fish from 10am till 3 pm.

Anyone get Tennis Elbow from Musky Lure Chucking?
OhioFisherman replied to Joey's topic in General Discussion
I had some friends get it bass fishing, one armed casters. Being able to cast with either hand lightens the stress on just being able to cast with one. One had surgery for it, haven`t talked to him in a while and not sure how that has worked out, short term ok. Others just rest the arm, ice, ben-gay and such. Motrin? -
Big fish, like Lew says casting reel heavy line, object is to actually land the fish once you stick them. Low profile casting reels are a comfort reel, smaller line capacities and lighter usually, well suited for days of casting for species like bass. Round reels generally have a larger line capacity, long line trolling, fast and long running fish like Salmon, casting for muskie. Just my experience spinning reels don`t work to well with heavier line, braid has probably changed that due to smaller diameter of the line. Open water smaller species, small mouth walleye ect, just what you are comfortable with, same to an extent anywhere, but big fish out of a weedy area, wood, cover baitcaster and a stiff stick. Shimano for me also some older Abu`s. Not a fan of cheap (poor quality) reels.

What method you you use to prevent rod tip icing?

Doc Johnson`s motion lotion! OOPS wrong sport! -
Just an alignment shouldn`t be very expensive, if they find problems the price can go up pretty quickly. I always used to do my own front end work, except for the alignment no equipment to do it. I could get it close enough for the few miles to the shop was no problem. Tie rods can be a safety concern, I drove a truck around the Cleveland area and was surprised how many cars I saw with the front wheels pointing in different directions because the tie rods fell apart on rough roads or railroad tracks. Front end parts aren`t overly expensive, but when you add on labor charges? Here around 70 bucks an hour.

All the best Lew!

I think after seeing some of the girls I brought home when I was 17, my mother probably wished I was gay. LMAO, I brought home a couple in fishnet stockings, short skirts and no panties myself! Mom and Dad were more comfortable with my crew!

Hmmm? are you implying the gentleman of short stature?

Thanks bigugli, I looked it up, a better understanding of the differences now. We pay into ours I believe now until we make over 100,000 dollars. When I started working full time the cap was like 13,000? Maximum benefit was 3,000 but that was only paid to people who made higher incomes and paid in more. We also get a cost of living adjustment annually. Same deal here though, social security income only means a pretty meager living when you retire or become disabled. All things considered I was very lucky when I became disabled to have enough time in to qualify for my pension from work also.
-
but everything had to be legit? LOL I don`t know how your system works up there. We have a social security retirement-disability plan here in the states. Cash money maybe nice if you use it wisely, most people I have seen here make it and use it. No money paid into the social security plan for it, they don`t bother putting it into a 401k. Ours is based on legit income, money you don`t report doesn`t increase what you get for a retirement check, or disability income if something should happen to you to cut short your working career. LOL I have friends and even family members that went the cash money way, now whining that they only will get 600-700 a month from social security and can`t retire. Might seem like a good deal now but it can screw you up later. Every job I took was legit, just made more sense to me.

Kemper somethings wrong, you didn`t mention the brand of reel. I have used Abu and Shimano bait casting reels exclusively because of their durability. Abu reels I used for 30 years down here for bass and up there for pike and skis still worked fine. Some reels do have durability problems, they usually aren`t on the market long. I still have 80 era Abu ultra mags and Shimano reels. A small reel and heavy lures might be a problem, gear ratio? More strain on high speed gears? Fast running, large species, Salmon might also be one on a reel designed for bass.

can anyone answer these questions???

An old one but if Pro is for and Con is against, isn`t Congress the opposite of Progress? -
The young driver and passengers thing got passed here in Ohio a couple of years ago. Pushed in part by a couple that lost their daughter I believe in an accident with a car load of kids. I understand their loss, not the law though. 6 miles or so to the high school, they don`t provide busing, and my daughter couldn`t give the kids next door a ride? Better monitoring of what the kids are doing may have been a better law?
-
holdfast, my second oldest daughter, 19 at the time did some time in prison for aggravated vehicular assault (DWI). I was in no way involved, and luckily so. It didn`t stop the people she injured from trying to come after me though. It would take more than a note from an underage kids parents for me to serve them any form of intoxicant. She didn`t get it here, didn`t drink it here, wasn`t driving one of our cars, or her own. They went thru the whole chain looking for cash, and deserved it, but it wasn`t my problem.

Always nice to discuss issues that affect us and to be able to keep it civil. How is bailing out (in our case, USA) Auto companies any different than bailing out New Orleans, Florida, the gulf coast area in general? We have repeatedly spent billions of tax dollars to help our people there and no end in sight. Poor choices in places to live? and continuing to do so? Do we stop or impose regulations? On what and where they can build? I haven`t agreed with any of the bail outs proposed, but glumly accepted they may be needed short term and a lot more changes should have been made to the terms. The jobs numbers here keeps growing, how do you recover with out jobs? Wait years possibly for people to be retrained? For what jobs? New figures I saw today says 30 percent of homeowners with mortgages will be under water by the end of next year. In my area, deemed conservative, suburban, rural, wealthier area they now have the foreclosure actions at the fairgrounds because of the numbers of them. Just drives down the value for every one involved. This can`t get turned around with out jobs? LOL and better planning and leadership?
-
Chill, I haven`t always agreed with my son`s or daughter`s actions. None have gone there, but the same principal. How is it your fault? Don`t understand why friends would feel different, we have some friends with gay family members. What they do at home is their business, still our friends and they can`t control others choices. My two older daughters moved out shortly after high school, they understood that what they wanted to do might have a real tough time happening here. They know they are always welcome here, but their baggage is suspect. Their choices have been their choices, tried to raise them right and teach them personal responsibility, I don`t pay for their mistakes, mentally or physically. I usually remove the welcome mat for most when they show no signs of respect, or get themselves into a situation where their issues may follow them here. They signed up for that, not me.
