Johnnybass that story was widely reported on the news here, it seems that the couples insurance had a 2 million dollar limit or something to that effect, something that a lot of people aren`t aware of or informed of. Medical costs far exceded that. Bankruptcy due to medical bills is reported to be the number one cause here. Pricing for some testing and procedures can vary widely from hospital to hospital and insurance you have. Co-pays also vary widely with different insurance policies. Smaller hospitals in my area frequently transfer patients with severe injuries, illnesses to trauma centers or larger hospitals in Cleveland hospitals (lifeflight), just to insure better care. Some tests that may require a wait in Canada are done more quickly here if ordered, just a population thing, more people here, more equipment and staff available. As an example my MRIs once ordered were scheduled in less than 2 weeks, the last set were started at 8pm, some hospitals may not be able to schedule routine testing that late due to staffing conflicts. My son recently injured his knee, the Orthopedic doctor he saw was a Canadian from Ontario(eh?) probably more money and opportunities on this side of the border? A larger client base? Over the years the insurance benefits from employers has seen shifting to the workers, pretty much a standard thing here back in the 60`& 70`s for employers to offer free medical insurance, hard to find employers offering it now, most have shifted some of the health care burden on the workers. Just from my own experience, bigger hospitals here, with better qualified staff and physicians do a much better job of diagnosing problems.

I would never want to be a fish, enough problems being a stupid human. Anytime someone has tried to eat me no permanent damage was done.

Fish Farmer it may help but my opinion more of a gimmick. Back in the old days some engines had some lets say less than ideal air flow characteristics. One of the trips for the hot rodders was to port and polish the heads(exhaust side, intake side can cause fuel mixing problems) match a set of headers to the exhaust ports because stock exhaust manifolds on most cars were pretty restrictive but a lot quieter. A lot of these may have been corrected by trying to get smaller engines to do more for fuel economy.

Great pictures! I have seen fish that small before, I try not to catch them! Wellies? boots? the boat leak?

An interesting story on the news here today about a company going to 4 - 10 ten hour days for their work week to reduce fuel consumption by their employees. Reduces fuel use driving to work by 20%, ok if it isn`t made up by more driving for other causes. Us old guys here remember when Sundays were kind of dead here, not much was open on Sundays, some convenience stores a few gas stations. Sundays were more of a family day because not much else was going on. LOL wanna cut fuel use by 1/7th? close the malls on Sunday!

Your guests attack you on the fishing boat, what do you do?
OhioFisherman replied to Burgerdude's topic in General Discussion
I would expect proper behavior from a guest, client, ect., including a fishing buddy, hands on me means walk the plank dude. Yelling, screaming at me? you don`t know your place dude, but this ain`t it!. A numbers question for police, 2 dudes telling one story, you with another, unless you have evidence? -
? One thing that always reminds me of some sportsmans clubs is the keep out sign, land leased by such and such sportsmans club. Some are very elitist and if they can state their opinion? But then some that consider themselves sportsmen in fact actually aren`t? P3ta? No real clue where they are coming from, but some species here have been hunted to extinction, the solution by the hunting lobby? open a new species to hunting, like the morning dove. Dudes? you could have gone for comorant? Just different strokes and opinions.

The rubber core sinkers work pretty well for adding weight to a spinnerbait, just pull out the rubber core and crimp to the hook.

I have a 17 foot SmokerCraft, actual length like 16'8" with like a 72 inch beam. Older boat(1987) and narrow compared to todays models. Lot of time on Lake Erie, some on the Georgian Bay, inland lakes in Ohio, PA, New York, there are days when I haven`t gone on Lake Erie when I had my 25 foot cruiser, others when it was no problem going over to the Erie island area with the smaller boat. Good judgment can trump a bigger wider boat. Wider boat generally more stable.

Down south? Ohio fish 6-6 1/2, south of the Mason Dixon line add maybe a half a pound.

I have been using Shimano products since the late 70`s, mostly baitcasters and never needed customer service, they make a good product.

What are your favorite fishing spots?
OhioFisherman replied to johnthefisherman's topic in General Discussion
Pointe Au Baril Ontario(Georgian Bay), French River( Northeast of highway 69?), Findlay Lake New York, Chautaqua Lake New York, Presque Isle Pa. East Harbor(off Lake Erie, Ohio) Sandusky Bay (off Lake Erie, Ohio), Black River(north of Elyria Ohio, trib of Lake Erie), Berlin Lake(Ohio), Milton Lake(Ohio), Clear Fork Lake(Ohio), Ladue(Ohio),West Branch(Ohio), Alum Creek(Ohio) West Harbor(Off Lake Erie), various shoreline areas of Lake Erie between Cleveland and Sandusky Ohio, and a million or so other places I haven`t fished. -
Favourite Structure for A Species
OhioFisherman replied to Musky or Specks's topic in General Discussion
Points, especially off shore points, harder to locate for the average fisherman and they get less fishing pressure. Weedy flats with much deeper water nearby, if the flat is 5 feet I like to see 10 to 15 feet of water real close by. Structure, wood, rocks, tree stumps, submerged culverts, old road beds, anything that can be used for an ambush spot or current break, wind can cause a current in lakes and the fish will use them. Sudden depth changes(drop offs) doesn`t take much at times, just gives fish another type of ambush point or edge to trap bait fish. The shoreline can get hit pretty hard on a lot of lakes, finding off shore breaks and structure can help a trip. -
Nice job Glen! Walleye are dumb, they eat bass lures. Black or white might be the only colors you need. Hobby shops sell glitter and an epoxy clear coat that you can add the glitter to and get some flash on the jig. I think some tackle making catalogs also sell some glitter that can be added to powder paint. You can modify colors of powder paint by mixing them, I had some bright green I made into a green pumpkin by adding black to it. Best colors for me though have been white with silver glitter and black with a emerald glitter. I used to get the powder paint for free so mixing and messing up wasn`t much concern. One of the tool stores sells one pound cans(I think 1 pound) of basic colors of powder paint for like 10 bucks, much cheaper than the tackle places and works the same. Cabela`s and Bass Pro shops sell eye busters for removing paint from the jig eyes, the powder paint is a lot tougher than conventional paint though. Mustad 32746BLN is a decent hook for most species, like 10 bucks a hundred for 2/0, cheaper if you buy by the thousand. Also a longer shank version is available, don`t know the number off hand but might be a better hook for jigs tipped with crawlers.

Congrats Joey and Paul. Stuff can happen, usually at a bad time. Been out of work due to injuries a couple times, had the death part but not disability, savings can go pretty quickly even for someone as cheap as me. Bad thing is you never know when something that doesn`t seem too bad can turn out to be career ending.

modifying baitcasting rod-removing trigger
OhioFisherman replied to kayak fisher's topic in General Discussion
Rod eyes, spinning rods have larger eyes, casting smaller, the way the line comes off the spool. Just doesn`t seem like a good plan to me, I have never done it. -
Haven`t named one since my SeaRay, Agitator. Marriage made me mellow.

I have used original Stren since the early 70`s, mostly a bass fisherman but at times all species. Not much luck landing hooked muskies on it, bad game plan.

My personal opinion it is part of the spawning activity, in the spring here they are jumping, some huge ones. When I had my cruiser docked at a marina they would hit the side of the boat at the dock. You don`t see them jump much after the spawn. I wouldn`t worry about fishing for spawning carp, not much chance of ever diminishing their numbers.

Cookslav can`t even imagine what kind of problems that would cause on Erie, guess it made the water brackish and they now catch redfish in that lake. 14 inch hole didn`t stay 14 inches for long. Smokey, some interest programs on the history channel, stuff they never taught us in school! http://www.wcpn.org/news/2001/01-03/0301salt-mine.html http://ech.case.edu/ech-cgi/article.pl?id=RS6

I would leave them be, hard to transport her eggs if any to an area near water for that distance and keep her interest. Neighbor used to raise chicks, don`t know how old they were when purchased but near full grown in 6 or 7 weeks, darn things eat I guess as long as a light is on? If they are in heavy brush they may be pretty well protected? Don`t know what baby ducks eat, but a feed store would, faster growth the faster they are out of there to a safe place? Our cats discourage any ground nesting birds but we still get the stop overs briefly.
