  1. Muskie are in season down here?
  2. Just consider a fishes eyesight and thinking ability? If they could see all that well and think clearly a lot of us that use lures only would be in trouble? Re-action strikes, it appears to be something alive and as the top rung of the food chain they try and eat it?
  3. I even like the colors! Pike and skis do too!
  4. Flatfish used to be a hot lure on lake erie when my dad was younger for walleyes and blue pike. Needless to say when we started going to Canada it was his lure of choice. LOL I never caught a walleye on one, pike seemed to love them and the occasional bass ate them. A lot of spin offs, and there where similar store brands sold here in the states. They do have a good action to them, Beno also made a similar lure, (Mill Run products out of Cleveland Ohio).
  5. I learned on casting tackle back in the 50`s, it is nice knowing how to use both and be comfortable with them? Spinning tackle is generally better at casting light weight lures, 1/16 - 1/8th ounce. A casting reel doesn`t have to be used with heavy line, I have older Shimano`s that have never seen anything but 10# test mono, just reels that I was real comfortable using in open water situations. Learn to flip and pitch.
  6. I have 4 of them for sure, 2 spinning and 2 casting. The spinning rods, heavy action for big fish, but rods the kids and ex could use with out fear of damage, and they have survived for 25 years or so. The casting rods were bought for 20 bucks or so on close out, an inexpensive serviceable rod. LOL 4 out of 40 or so?
  7. They used to hang people for stealing horses? Now the better idea is to have the tax payers support them in prison? LMAO and soon the criminals may out number the taxpayers? 12 second street machine? Really not a lot of honest 12 second street machines around, they attract attention? A thief, especially one into autos is going to know how to start and drive the car he is after. I doubt the ride was taken for scrap metal, just guessing the engine alone was of value to some one that didn`t have cash or skills to build his own? Sorry guy, it sucks! The last year I lived in Cleveland the auto thefts were like 21,000 a year? Midnight auto parts!

  10. muskie, it has bee 20 years since I have been there but there was one right off of hwy 69 across from Kennedy`s general store. A gulf station on the corner of 69 and the side road? There also was a bait store a little farther down the side road that had a beach I used to launch at also, but summer and warm water. No idea where to look up Kennedy`s number, but the people there used to be great and they may be able to help you out?
  11. I have never tried fly fishing for them, but I have caught a number of them on spinning and casting tackle. Like mentioned for their size they are a disappointment. A better fight from a sheephead or walleye.
  12. I have seen a lot of similar set ups. Back in the day that was the way to troll deep. A lot of folks from this area used to go to the Finger Lakes region of New York and also Ontario and use set ups like that. You can look on ebay and see if there is a similar outfit and get an idea on value.
  13. The Man Rules At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down Finally, the guys' side of the story. (I must admit, it's pretty good.) We always hear "the rules" From the female side... Now here are the rules from the male side. These are our rules! Please note... these are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE! 1. Men are NOT mind readers. (FIRST & FOREMOST RULE) 1. Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight; But did you know men really don't mind that? It's like camping. Pass this to as many men as you can - to give them a laugh. Pass this to as many women as you can - to give them a bigger laugh.
  14. Neither, rare for me to open any pop-soda, coffee-tea-fruit juice for me. "Coke mind you... it's for removing rusty nuts" the tiny bubbles tickle mine.
  15. Great report! Cats can be fun, a good way to keep things interesting for a kid, or adult.
  16. Garnet, not just in the Kawartha`s it works a lot of places. I use some old reels as crank bait reels, Shimano 251`s they have like a 4.7 to 1 ratio, slow by todays standards. Gone, deeper quicker isn`t always the answer, you can catch fish on a deeper running crank in shallower water. A slow retrieve with one that wobbles well and just nick the weeds from time to time. Who knows what fish think, or if they do, had days when a crank bait would catch a fish or two, but they would absolutely blast a lizard or worm swam through the weeds, even a jig and pig. Might depend on what the food is doing?
  17. I like a medium action rod for throwing most bass size crank baits, and mono for line, it helps prevents the hooks from tearing out. A long rod gives better distance and softer action also helps prevent tear outs. A lot of wood in the waters here, even in older lakes, I use as heavy of line as I can and still accomplish what I am trying to do with the crank. Waters with little or no snags, light weeds and such #10 test more junk # 14 test.
  18. No experience with the Convergence fly rods, but the spinning and bait casting models do the job, I have a few and like them. Ran into a close out sale here stateside and they had them marked down to 20 bucks so I bought6. "I once had a 12'6" L action Convergence, and honestly I would quit fishing after a couple of hours on the river simply because it's too heavy to hold all day. Or maybe I was just impatient... " Heavier than a penn 209 loaded with a couple hundred yards of 20-30 pound test on a 6 foot solid fiberglass rod? Casting tackle up north back in the mid 60`s, 14-15-16 and I fished all day, dawn to dark.
  19. Drink and BBQ? Perhaps I missed that tale?
  20. Pass, go fish! Dudes I used to work with went all the time, and it showed. Never went myself, just didn`t seem like a good time to me. Bruises? Fun? Put some gloves on and we could share a good time?
  21. Caspercansee, not in my zip code.
  22. They had a couple of guys here in Ohio get caught, they had hidden bass in a mesh fish basket, another competitor snagged the basket or saw it, found the fish and clipped the fins, and notified the tournament director. Dudes turned in the fish at the weigh in and were busted. They are blacked balled here from competition. Why play the game if you can`t play fair?
  23. LMAO Roy, I think we call those country girls down here!
  24. Well I better not go there?
  25. Enjoy it now Dan, the rascals grow up!
