  1. Good morning Lew and all. Starting the day off right, lol as a free man. Cut the anchor line yesterday so now maybe I can change spots.
  2. A bigger concern for me would be what lures are going to let me effectively fish the waters I intend to fish, the depths I intend to fish. I have had a lot of fish caught on bass lures that weren`t bass, a lot of cross over on food for the species, if it`s smaller than them they might eat it, some stupid fish like a 3 inch bass hitting a 5 inch lure. Most species will take a crank bait. a minnow or smaller species imitator, a plastic worm, a tube, jig and pig, indirectly you are matching the available food supply.
  3. Good to hear from you again Lew! Glad you and yours had fun! Lakefield? Sounds kind of like Litchfield? I will be selling one here after tomorrow!
  4. you could also make like a carolina rig? 3 or 4 feet of leader with the lure trailing a slip or egg sinker? small rubber core sinkers, pull out the rubber and crimp to the hook shaft for weight.
  5. No, 25 miles from lake erie about 12 from Chippewa lake, the biggest natural body of water other than Lake Erie in the state. Everything else was made after we killed off or kicked out the indians. No clue as to why they are here or how old, people seem to find a lot of them in this area though. Farming activity over the year has probbly damaged a lot of them, or else throw outs? damaged in the process of making them? Just too many to be from hunting activity.
  6. Haven`t used a suction cup mount in a lot of years, I like the transducer with one on lower in the water, bubbles no clear stream of water under the transducer will cause problems. Even rivets on the bottom of the boat can cause problems in the water stream if the transducer is not low enough. Get it as far down as it will stick.
  7. Any particular rush? I personally would like to have for the most part all the same reels, the tried and true thing. Reel retrieve ration can be a bit over rated, caught far more fish with a slow to medium retrieve than a super fast one, I get get as fast as I will probably ever need with a reel in the 6 to 1 ratio, I have used a lot of baitcasters far slower than that. Always an Abu Garcia man once I started buying my own reels in the 60`s, that changed in the later 70`s, some issues with some Abu reels, a better selection of left hand retrieve reels by the new kids in town (Shimano) gave me a mix. Might just be a personal choice but every bait caster I own is Abu or Shimano, I don`t know any one personally that has Quantum`s or any other brand used as much as mine were that are still happy with them. I do have some dated reels, 70`s 80`s 90`s, no problems with them and even if I was still fishing as much as the old days no need to switch. Buy one, try it out thoroughly and if you like it buy another, better than buying 2 different models or brands at once and having issues with one. If one gets old or breaks it leaves you with a parts reel, although most models tend to have the same problems with breakage or wear.
  8. Transducer positioning, angle as the boat is moving at speed, and mounting method can all cause problems.
  9. Kind of funny what you find when you play in the dirt and with rocks, while putting my back yard in I found arrow heads and spear points made of flint. No dinosaur bones though. The dang Cleveland Indians must have started by me.
  10. http://www.tradeonlytoday.com/component/co...july-boat-sales With the continued job loss and slow market you might find some deals down here.
  11. Dang tjsa it held off this year? don`t you usually get your first snow in august?
  12. Bait fish are most species food supply this time of year, in a tube I go with white and silver fleck for a touch of flash. Grub, white and white head, in a bait like a sassy shad white or silver with a darker back and black jighead. Fire tiger which kind of matches small perch can also work, perch are bait fish to any thing bigger.
  13. They charge you to fish in whales?
  14. Everyone is wired a bit differently, what you want your kid to do just may not make a connection to him-her. Be involved, give and let them make their own guided choices. Rather have mine be do`ers than watchers as long as it`s constructive. LOL Trombone and Clarinet, mom want me to play an instrument, like that happened. I could use a baitcaster at 5 though.
  15. Very nice pike Connie! Snow? I hate them four letter words!
  16. They also make 3 way swivels, might work better?
  17. Me thinks I could make some serious money selling safety straps for rods to some people? LOL great story!
  18. Nice fish! congrats!
  19. Leecham, evidently the Muskie jitterbugs are still made http://www.muskyshop.com/modules/cart/prod...tMuskyJitterbug
  20. Great looking dog! It`s snowing there already? Ice safe yet?
  21. Steve. pictures? tutu optional? Congrats young man! Keep Cooper a mini ! Down to 210-215 myself from 262, need to keep a bit more weight on myself for padding when I fall. LOL
  22. Great! Always nice when a plan works! They used to make a larger one, Musky jitterbug, haven`t seen them around for a while. Just a tip and you may be aware of it, fish blows up on your lure and misses it take something totally different, say like a soft plastic bait, eg. lizard and pitch it near the blow up, it might catch the missed fish.
  23. Nice job! Nothing like the sound of a Jitterbug talking as it gurgles across still waters. Caught a lot of fish on them.
  24. I have used mono for the most part all of my life. Very early some braided nylon, dacron and very limited use of the newer braids(superlines). Mostly original Stren since about 1973, it works for me, very few problems with it on baitcasters or spinning reels. Mostly 8-20 pound test, mostly somewhere in between 10-17. Primarily a bass fisherman, targets, fishing junk, slop, wood, rocks, any sort of cover, edges. It has served me well. Changing line doesn`t scare me though, back when I was fishing heavy a 2400 yard spool of 10-12 pound test and one of 17 pound test usually got me thru a season or two. If there are zebra mussels in your area, they like rocks and such as much as fish they will cut up any line. I have used Berkley Vanish, for me a situation line, tough bite line, play the game. No problems with it, but it doesn`t hold up as well fishing rocky areas. The braid? Again a situation line, don`t like to go over 20 pound test mono on any of my reels, LOL feels like rope. The braid just doesn`t feel like rope but is stronger, a better choice when you fish for skis and such. Find a line you are comfortable using and stick with it? Most of my line experiments have gone poorly, er, Prime.
  25. dude is 64 inches tall, muskie, just guessing is 52 inches or so? now idea of how much one that length usually weighs. Nice fish for sure and a congrats on live release! Just a guess under 50 lbs by a pretty fair margin?
