  1. LOL we have something Canadians like besides a bit of warmer weather in the winter? LOL, don`t ever say America doesn`t sell you gas! A common brand name here in the Medina Ohio area, all the major grocery stores stock it and in a few flavors. Actually a brand that no longer seems to exist Heartland were my favorite.
  2. LOL, Toys-R-Us? A very good tackle shop in my area, and I know and have fished with the people that run it. They are all fishermen and good ones! I still used to go to BPS and Cabela`s, Janns Netcraft at times, they took the place of the Cleveland Sportsman show for me. Quantity purchases made where the cost was the cheapest, but in time of need locally. Some stores carry different products, it is nice to have options. Not really into house brand lures and such, but is anything made in our countries any more any way? BPS seems to have caught on to that fairly quickly and push their house brands, for nearly the same prices that name brands carry, and the price of a few lures is more than the poor dude in China or Korea makes in a day for turning out hundreds of them. LOL Bass-Mart?
  3. Lew I have a septic system and have lived here for 20 years now, I always was out my paint brushes in the laundry tub, ya it goes right into the septic system. No idea what style of system you have, there are a few different type of septic systems. I have an aeration system, it has a motor that has a long hollow shaft that pumps air into the stew and stirs it to help it break down, it also has a pump that pumps out the gray water(waste). Depending on the pump brand they are tough, mine uses a cast iron Hydromatic pump with an easily replaceable float switch, some float switches are built in and not easy to replace. My pumps have never failed, the float switch a few times. It never fails either, they have a habit for me of failing on the start of a long holiday weekend, late at night, whenever it may take a day or two for a service guy to show. I keep a spare pump and float switch on hand and change them out myself. Nothing that won`t rot should go into the drains, plastic, some diaper wipes, cigarette filters, they can clog the system. I don`t have a sink disposer, just seemed like a good idea to limit what I was putting down the sink with a septic system. I compost most of my kitchen scraps. Some builders cover the septic systems, bury them, makes no sense to me, sure it hides them, but adds to the expense of repairs, the first step requires a backhoe to uncover them, it can make repairs pricey.
  4. Plastic worms, my preference is Zoom ss u tails in Junebug, watermelon blue fleck, black or purple, watermelon seed, those colors seem to work anywhere. Berkley power worms will also work, my 2nd choice though. Tubes, 3 1/2 - 4 inch green pumpkin, a brown if you can find one, and white with silver glitter, water melon blue fleck, same deal they seem to work any where. Jigs, bass style with a skirt and ball or mushroom head, find ones that have a good hood in them, they are worth it in the long run. The idea is to be able to strain the water, fish all depths comfortably and efficiently, top water lures, shallow runners, medium runners, and deep runners. Some lures let you do a little of each depending on how the are used, you can retrieve a spinner bait in a number of different speeds to cover various depths, it does help to have a mix of weights, up to 1 ounce or larger for skis. You are not going to get everything you may need or want in one trip, basics and quality will give you a good start.
  5. Pulling for you Jack!
  6. They also used to sell shocks that had a coil spring on them that you could bolt right on yourself. Me and a friend put air shocks on my dad`s 65 pontiac catalina station wagon, he wrecked it a short time later. The shocks can change the handling characteristic of a car. You need to let air out when you are done hauling your boat.
  7. I am not a fly fisherman, the worst trip I ever had to Ontario as far as catching was concerned? During a mayfly hatch on the Georgian Bay, it seemed like the bass and walleye were feeding almost exclusively on them. Rafts of Mayflies drifting along the surface and fish busting them. A mayfly imitation might have saved the trip? Most of a predatory fishes diet is other fish? sinking fly line and a streamer fly or leech pattern? LOL if your driving 500 miles to fish it is nice to catch a few? Keep an open mind and you can catch more fish?
  8. I learned on a baitcaster when I was 5, it was all my dad had at the time. He did eventually get some zebco 33`s, I stuck with the baitcasters after trying them. He also got some Mitchell 300`s, I didn`t mind using them. The first reel I bought on my own was an ABU 1750 baitcaster, a small reel for small hands at the time, free spool but no drag, lol well thumb pressure. The easier reel for the teacher? a closed face spincast, the student and his-her eagerness to learn determines the next step, also the teachers patience? Kids will make mistakes, professional over-runs, birds nests, and just a mess under the dome of a spin-caster. My kids learned on conventional spinning reels, that said, they don`t like using them now. I had other options available for them, and for me cost wasn`t really a factor. I wanted reels I could use if the kids didn`t show a defined interest in the sport. To me the easiest reel to use, day or night are the Abu 500 series reels, a semi-closed face spinning reel, the Abu Premier 704 is the same style, but may not be available on this continent.
  9. Congrats to you and your lady Lew! working on a herd of cattle?
  10. LMAO, I even attract babies and dogs.
  11. City, yes beautiful, and unless you venture out past the bay more or less sheltered waters. I went there for like 25 years straight, although the last time I was there was in 1989 I wouldn`t be afraid to go back. Sure there have been changes over the years, increased fishing pressure and boat traffic can do that. Gobies, other changes like water clarity may be a factor also. I don`t really care much about what locals, or other fishermen say about an area. The camp owner couldn`t believe I caught those walleyes, I think I had 4 that day fishing with my ex, where I caught them and in July. I actually caught more walleye there than my father, who went more often and supposedly in prime walleye season. He just insisted on fishing for them in one or two ways and couldn`t give up on the old school methods. Sure they work sometimes, but sometimes they are not the best approach. Those fish, that day were caught on large chubs and minnows, pike sized bait floated under a slip bobber along an edge, but I have caught them there casting spinnerbaits, bottom fishing, casting a crank bait or trolling old school. If you have time, a week or two vacation, and stay flexible you should have some good days. It was always worth a the trip there just to chill out and relax, and fishing is supposed to be fun, if you get too twisted over not catching anything learn more about it or try golf.
  12. LOL yes you could catch walleyes at Pointe Au Baril in July or September, it wasn`t the game plan often. The big guy holding that sick walleye, it was 31 inches long and not much over 8 pounds, a sick fish. Bighead and no body.
  13. Happy birthday Joe, it`s just a number kid.
  14. LOL Gerritt, I am kind of laid back. Stuff hit the fan the day before Easter last year, 3 of my 4 kids were here helping to get ready for Easter and my youngest daughter`s birthday party which we were celebrating on Easter too since it was the following day. My 2nd oldest daughter had driven in from Rhode Island with my grand daughter on Thursday for Easter and to stay for a while to get ready for my youngest daughter`s graduation party in June. The ex broke the news to us that she had a boyfriend. LOL I was the calm one, no problem, where are you sleeping tonight? It won`t be here. The kids had other words for her that I can`t say on the board. The bell is covering the ex in the picture, she was allowed to attend her daughter`s graduation to pacify her, the divorce wasn`t final. She isn`t part of the family now, the kids wnt nothing to do with her, and I am at liberty to do as I please with out nagging and complaining. I have morals and kids, she put her own interests above family, so she is history, and I am a better man for it. Not a problem for me, she can`t figure out why after 23 years of marriage and raising 4 kids to have morals why they won`t have anything to do with her. Duh? The rules you set only apply to us? Heading south as soon as I can, I tried Florida for about 5 weeks this summer, didn`t really care for it. Tennessee looks a lot better to me so I am working on a plan in between dates and keeping the family tight. I got the kids backs and they have mine, I won`t bust that up.
  15. No Phil, gotta sell the ranch first and I am waiting on spring to do that. Tennessee still looks like the plan though, lol unless a rich lady would like me to move elsewhere? Just having fun now, no nagging, no hassles. I do a lot better when I am not tied down. Kids are all good and have my back so all is well bud! LOL so what if I am ugly, I have a great personality! plus a brown paper bag.
  16. Hmmm, Sportsman show or home and flower show?
  17. LOL Pete, not sure, didn`t care much about anything but seeing it swim away. Never carried a scale and Ohio at the time had a 12 inch limit, so we had a 12 inch golden rule in the boat. My buddy Mike`s boat that day, mine was exactly the same except for the trolling motor and electronics, but he kept his livewell full of junk so we used the cooler. LOL I caught enough of them that size so I didn`t care much, just a fun time, and release them to catch again later, after they grow up! It was a bad trip if we didn`t get a few over 20 inches.
  18. LOL Riverfisher, Hank Parker is or was a little bit better than me. That pike was the only one I ever kept, I couldn`t get it to swim away, and seemed like I tried for a half an hour. I felt bad about it but my buddy had never seen one that big and insisted on a picture. For around 45-50 year of fishing I just never bothered much with pics, for me the memories were enough. LOL GDC a couple of cats on the hood of a Ford, see Fords are good for something!
  19. LOL I always liked machines!
  20. It`s not if you win or lose, it`s how you play the game, sportsmanship, not enough of it these days.
  21. LOL spiel, I couldn`t find a steeple pic so I threw in a lighthouse! Little pieces of history?
  22. My buddies have been going to the lunge lodge for 25 years or so, they are usually there the end of August or in early September. They have been staging a camp bass tournament when they are there, I don`t think any one outside their group has won. I was there once for a day to visit them while staying at Pointe Au Baril, it is a nice area and I caught bass, didn`t fish for anything else intentionally. They also catch muskies pike and walleye.
  23. http://www.baitnet.com/search.php?action=s...%2Bin%2BOntario Might help? you probably have a better idea of where you will be passing through than I do.
