Hey all, My wife and I are planning a camping/fishing trip to one of the parks surrounding Sudbury in July. We'd like to stay within an hour(ish) drive as we have family in Sudbury that will be coming to visit us. Being the hardcore fisherman I am... fishing is the #1 criteria for me and the choice of parks will be made on that. I'm interested in: - Bass - Walleye - Pike/Musky The three parks that we're debating between are: - Halfway Lake - Windy Lake - Fairbank Any info on these parks/lakes would be much appreciated. I have been told by another member on the board that Halfway Lake is worth the extra 40 min drive. Any other people agree? Cheers and thanks in advance for any help!

Rice Lake for both. The Otonabee River is FULL of Musky and the lake has been on fire for Walleye for the past 3 weeks. Always a few break offs from Musky each time I'm out on Rice while Walleye/Bass fishing.

I just went on the Fish-online site by the gov't and it says Walleye, Smallies, Perch Lakers and Brook trout. They stocked the lake in 2009 and 2011 with Bookies. How is the fishing there typically? I'd be looking for Bass/Walleye.

Has anyone stayed at Windy Lake Provincial Park near Sudbury? I have read that there's Pike, Walleye and Smallies in the lake, can anyone confirm this? Looking to take a trip up that way in July and was hoping for some more info about the park and fishing. Cheers,

Or... a cheap DIY method is to buy a broom stick handle and cut it into 4 one-foot long pieces. Drill a few holes around the outside of your hut, attach rope to wood, and shove the wood under the ice to "brace" against the bottom of the hole. Tie the other end to your hut. Kinda like a dog trying to walk through the door with a stick too long to fit through. Sure, you have to drill a few more holes and get your hand wet.... but pretty cheap option!

Exactly. From what I've witnessed and heard from most others I talk to is that our populations of not only numbers but size of fish has continued to improve for Bass. I believe that we have such a healthy population of them that I dont think it would have that much of an impact. I could be dead wrong, which is fine but IMO I think our fisheries (and fisherman) could handle it.

I dont think that has much to do with anything. A SICK person is a SICK person...doesnt matter what TV they watch or games they play. I just wish this "hero" would have had the balls to stick around and not take the easy way out like the COWARD he is. makes me sick.

What's the point in opening bass 1 week early? IMO, our bass populations are doing amazing and could easily handle having a yr round open season. Especially since they're not a popular "dinner species" like a few others are. Then have a "protected" season during their spawn to be C&R only.

Randy... I'm in Bowmanville and used to guide on Quinte... the drive is EASY. Road conditions are the thing you need to focus on, not the traffic. The most annoying part are those MORON truckers that take 10 mins to "pass" another truck (because it goes down to 2 lanes east of Cobourg)!! As for where to go, that all changes from week to week or even day to day. PM me a little bit before your trip and I'll try and give you some tips as to where the "hot" bite is.
