Ditto, you sure you don't want to change your reservation from Memquisitnt to Maskinonge Lew, come up the same time as us?

What a wonderful week at lake Nipissing. We had booked at Lakair for the week, but as Lew mentioned, due to illness, Lakair is not opening this year. After a search online, we found Maskinonge Lodge, formerly Lucky Strike Camp. The owners, Regan and Goldie, are two of the nicest people we have ever met and took care of all of our amenities as soon as we arrived. From launching the boat to getting ice and firewood, we felt right at home in the cabin overlooking the lake. As much as I like Lakair, I have to admit, it was much more quiet at this lodge. Less boat traffic and you don't hear the trucks on the highway. We arrived at about noon on Saturday with a nice drive up, no highway jerks to speak of. We unpacked and settled in and after introducing ourselves to Regan, Goldie, their son Russel and dog Barney, we waited for Lew and Diane to arrive. They got unpacked and we all decided to just take it easy and fish on Sunday. We took a boat ride down to Lakair Sunday afternoon and went in search of Les or Kevin. It was a sad sight to see the grass unmown and nobody around at a place we've all been used to being filled with laughter and mayhem. We found them at the house, sat out in the yard and caught up on life. The water was very high, as you can see in the pictures of the dock IMG_1353 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_1356 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr Here is my most favorite picture of the whole trip IMG_1357 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr After that we headed over to Memquisit as somebody forgot their fishing licence and outdoors card at home (me ) and for $20 they printed off both for me. After that it was off to Muskrat Bay, only to find barely any weeds. I don't ever think I've seen less weeds in the lake. We fished for a few hours under the big fireball in the sky and then headed back for BBQ'd steak We did fish just out of the lodge a few times and caught some pike, but there were no weeds to be seen there either. Lew circled around and told me there was a bald eagle in the trees up ahead, so I got the camera ready and fired away in delight IMG_4999 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_5010 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_5170 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr He even gave us a show fishing for pike (which is better than we did all week ) IMG_5371 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_5409 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr Lew and Di fishing next to us IMG_5026 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr This was our view every night from the deck IMG_1359 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr I don't even remember Monday, but Tuesday it rained most of the day. We decided to fish "pike alley" and got skunked. We were all soaking wet and Ralphie was not impressed. IMG_1399 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_1407 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_1411 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr John and Barbara came for a visit and stayed with Lew and Di. They will be coming up to join us in August and wanted to case the place out. Didn't get any pictures for some reason but it was nice to see you two again. The rest of the time was mostly spent either fishing or socializing or smacking bugs off your body. The deer and horse flies were a bit relentless. Ralphie got bit under the eye on one of our walks and i had to give him a Benedryl just in case. IMG_1422 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_1423 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr The rest are just random shots of the trip. Yup, it was a great trip Lew and even though it was lacking in fish, it was a great week. I really enjoyed the new place and the owners, but mostly you and Di's company. I'm just editing the pictures now and will try to have a report up shortly. We got a flat on the way home and had to change it in the blazing heat so we were a little wiped out last night.

Good stuff Matt

I think that is the point Cliff. She didn't think it would happen, yet it did. So she is now found guilty of negligence because she was negligent in not thinking about the consequences of her actions. Those actions caused the death of two people.

I think this topic has come up more times than I can count since this forum started. Honestly, I don't believe they do feel pain. They never say Ow when I catch them. They eat Crayfish. Those are pretty hard and spiky!.

Some are not the best photos, but it all started this afternoon, that other site. I heard an commotion of crows outside, and I mean loud. I figured they were pestering a hawk like usual. The noise continued so I grabbed my camera and went out back where the noise was and as soon as I opened the door, the hawk took off from one of my trees with all manner of bird in pursuit. You can see in the pictures why!! IMG_3967 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_3968 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_3974 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr I made chase for a few blocks, with the hawk landing in a few trees along the way, and finally caught up with it in a forested park. You can see he still has the baby bird in his claws in the tree, all the while, crow, grackles and even Baltimore Orioles were harassing him. IMG_3980 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_4032 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr Then he flew off into the sunset, with his meal, birds giving chase until they flew out of site! Yes, the observatory is still open, but you can't just go up there. You have to be part of a group. I went up to take pictures and they kicked me off the land. Said I was trespassing and that they'd have me arrested if I came back. He even made me show him the bird pictures I had taken to prove that's all I was doing. I called the "owners," a big corporation, and asked permission and they also said no. Said i was a liability and if I got hurt, they would be liable. The other day I was just in the area, but not on the property, and saw the gate open and lots of people walking up there. So I followed suit and the guy at the gate was nicer, said have a nice walk and he hoped I got some good pictures. We had a chat on my way back and he said they were filming a movie there so that's why the gate was open. I told him about the guy who kicked me out and he laughed. He did mention that there were alot of coyotes (which I got pictures of before some of you may recall - but I was on the other side of the fence) and that there used to be 25 deer there, and they were down to 4 or 5, but up to about 25 coyotes now from a smaller amount. Said they find the freshly killed deer carcasses all the time. It won't matter soon, they've gotten permission to build there now, even though the original owner had a clause in his will that nobody was to ever built there. Guess when you're dead, you can't complain

I was at mom's and noticed she had a picture from off her balcony from 40 or so years ago, so I did an after shot. What a difference. Richmond Hill, Ontario, Yonge street between 16th ave and Major Mac facing east toward the David Dunlap Observatory. Thought some of you might find it interesting. Joey replied to bow slayer's topic in General Discussion
How are you allowed to have that in your driveway? We are not allowed to have one in ours. I've seen people put them up, only to have to take them down again. -
Hmmm, very interesting. So, got any pictures of these nuggets? Would be interesting to see.
-
Wow, what a beauty. Congrats!

Huh? What a completely uncalled for set of comments. How rude. Loved your trio of a report Bruce. Some nice fish and I bet the fish fry was tasty!!!

Very nice Bruce. Looks like a lovely place!
