Why would a 29" salmon be in a small river (east Don)
Joey replied to Joey's topic in General Discussion
Okay, so it swam upstream then. That makes more sense. Hope it makes it back. It will probably die after spawn though right? -
I live in Richmond Hill and there is a nice little path I take Ralphie on a walk in most days (Hillcrest Heights Park). You can Google map it. So today, as I'm walking, there were a bunch of people standing there going "oh, poor thing, he's stuck on the rocks........" So I look, and there is a salmon, at least 29", flipping about on the rocks out of the water. So I asked someone to hold Ralphie and I walked in, shin deep, shoes on, and grabbed it by the tail and put it back into the streaming water. I revived it by holding on for a bit and moving him back and forth to get the water back into him, then he swam away. It is a very small, shallow river so wonder if this is normal and I did a Google search and can't figure where it came from. Unless it swam upstream and got lost, the river does not lead up to Huron as far as I can tell. Any ideas how it got there????

Okay, I've got another one. Paul and I were up at his parent's cottage again, but we didn't even have the tinny yet. We were in a canoe and I kept missing the bite from the Largies because I didn't set the hook. So he says "Set the hook next time." So I get a nibble and just yanked as hard as I could and the fish came flying out of the water and landed on Paul's back and the hook, fish still attached, got caught in the back of Paul's shirt, then proceeded to flip about. Being in a canoe, there's not much you can do, so he had to take his shirt off and passed it to me to so I could get the hook out of the shirt and the fish off.

I believe I've told this story before, but here goes again - and true! Paul and I were up at his parent's cottage near Minden. Only large mouth bass in the lake. We were having a good "moo juice" day and both had a nap, then near midnight, woke up sober and hear the wolves/coyotes howling and it was a full moon, so pretty light out for that time of night. We decided to go out and do some top water action (it's a small lake) and we still only had the tinny. Second or third cast and BAM, big fish on. Paul got it in the boat and we were shocked at the size. We figured it might be the Ontario record, which is 10.43 lbs or something like that. We figured this was much bigger. So we took it up to the cottage and stood on the scale, then stood on the scale with the fish and it was over 11 lbs. We were stoked. Put it in the cooler with lake water to keep it alive and as we knew we were leaving the next day, we figured we could get it officially weighed to see if he broke the Ontario LMB record. We stopped by his mom and dad's on the way home (dad was away in Poland and was due back the next day), but his nephew lived there and did the same, weighed it and it was over 11 lbs. He said he had an official scale at the place he worked and would weigh it the next day and see if it was the Ontario records - score!!! So I call the next day, and his dad answers back from his trip to Poland and I ask him if he saw the fish (thinking Paul's 'nephew had taken it to the official weigh scale the next morning) and he said "oh ya, big, but it tasted terrible"!!! So, who knows if it was the new record, it was now down Paul's dad's gullet (we always brought him fish before so I guess he figured it was for him) I'm sure it was a record, but we'll never know now will we

Well I'm sorry to say, but I don't believe in letting your dog off leash. I never let Ralphie off leash and he's a happy, healthy dog. He's not much of another dog friend kind of dog, likes kids and other humans more. But the point is, maybe don't let your dog off leash. There are a few shepherds in the area that are big and want to eat him, and the owners are small and have a hard time holding them back. My only solution is to pick him up and then they back off, but if he were off leash, who knows what could happen. So, no off leash for my dog, and unfortunately, I suggest the same for you at this point.

SWEET, that worked, thanks Bill. So we solved two computer problems today within an hour. Such a smart bunch us fishermen we are thanks Bill!

I use Google Chrome, but download the pics to Windows Live Photo Gallery. Then normally, it would have all the names on the left hand side that i called the file, like "heron" or "nipissing" or the date but now the names on the left hand side are no longer there, it just says downloads;, and I look and they're not there. I have a heck of a time finding them when before it was so easy. Don't know what I hit but it changed it and I want it to change back

That's terrible. If you can, get the dog's licence (as in the number on the tag of his collar) and get her name and address. Then I would call animal control see what they say you should do. Report her and her dog's licence number. I also suggest going to a different park for awhile.

Aren't computers a pain sometimes Lew. I have my photos in a file and for some reason, I hit something and it moved them and now when I download, I can't find them. It's driving me nuts. I may need to call Computer Geeks.com to help me, or get my son up here to help. Hope you figure it out bud.

Well both interesting theories I'm sure we'll find some use for it, or if someone is interested in buying it, let me know.

Found this in someone's trash (at the curb). I've met the guy before and know he fishes and even gave me a bunch of crappie before. Looks like everything is there, no holes, all the poles etc. are in good shape. What do you think the red modification is for? IMG_1825 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr IMG_1826 by Joeyfishing, on Flickr

That sucks Lew. Somebody broke into my car the other day too and instead of just stealing the change, which they did, they dumped the ashtray all over the car and went through the CD's and I guess tossed the ones they didn't want all over the car and then pulled everything out of the glove compartment and left that lying all over the place ( just insurance papers and the car manual etc). Ticked me off pretty good.

Just sayin
