When I bought my new Skeeter last year it came on an EZLOADER trailer and after only about 300 miles something snapped in the torsion axle and I couldn't use the trailer. Fortunately the boat was in the water so I didn't need the trailer but it took 3 weeks for the dealer to get a new axle shipped in and fix things up. I was pretty pi$$ed that it took that long for them to ship an axle to replace a faulty one on a brand new rig. If I didn't have a dock to keep the boat I'd have been without it for all that time. I don't know where the axle came from but it shouldn't have taken that long IMHO

Hilarious stuff Joe !! In our entire lives my brother and I only ever had one argument but it was so long ago I can't even remember what it was about. I was 10 and Ed was 9 and for whatever reason I took a swing at him but he ducked and I hit him on top of his head and broke 2 of MY fingers. He joked about it for decades later that he beat me up without ever taking his hands outta his pockets

Your annual spring trip to Algonquin is one I watch for every year and as usual, it sounds like you guys had a fantastic time. Always enjoy reading your fishing tales.

Good to have you back in Ontario Clive and as always, a great fish'n tale.

You've got a sweet ride now Louie and you sound like a happy man !! Goodonya

Been raining here for about 24 hours , sometimes very heavy but that's OK cause we sure do need it, but just in the last 30 minutes it's been mixing with some wet snow.

My wife and I have an understanding......I don't tell her how to cook and she doesn't tell me when I can or can't buy a new vehicle. I buy a brand new truck every 3 - 5 years and she makes the best roast beef dinner you'll find anywhere. It's a system that's kept us VERY happily married for nearly 44 years.

The next building north of the gas station Bosh, maybe 1/4 mile.

Theres a new tackle shop just opened in the Kawarthas this afternoon if anyones interested. He's on the east side of hwy 28 about 2 miles north of Youngs Point. I stopped in today on my way home just for a quick look and he seems to have a fair bit of stock and the sign says he sells worms too, but other than that I didn't even have time to check his prices. Appears to be a nice little place but seems to have strange hours. It looks like he's only open Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 9:00 AM till about 6 or 7 Anyways, just thought I'd pass it on as an FYI

Their looking excellent so far Matt, I'll be watching for the finished product.

Neighbor had a black bear in his backyard just down the road from me last night. Musta been looking to snack on the turkeys he had on his front lawn in the morning.

DanD, your story sounds almost exactly like what happened to us in Quebec a few years back. There were 8 of us camped in the bush about 50 miles east of Temiskiming. Two of the guys went out in the morning and caught 3 pickeral which they cleaned (and removed the skin)and put them in the ice box for the fish fry we had planned for that evening. We all went out later in the day in the 4 boats and when we returned to camp at sunset there were 2 CO's waiting for us on the dock, both with their hands on their guns and ordered us out of the boats. One began searching the boats while the other "kept us covered" with his hand never leaving the gun. When they finished with the boats, they had us all line up by the trucks while one of them systematically tore our camp apart, tent by tent, even dumping everything out of our duffle bags, while they other one still kept his hand on the gun. Eventually they made their way to the kitchen tent where they found the 6 fillets in the ice box. When he saw that the skin had been removed he went ballistic. We explained that we were planning a fish fry but he basically accused us of raping the Quebec lakes. The guy who cleaned the fish apologised for removing the skin and explained that we had no intention of leaving camp with them but the CO's wouldn't listen. He originally said he was gonna fine each of us $250 and call in 4 tow trucks to confiscate out trucks & boats but eventually only fined the one who cleaned the fish. We knew our friend had broken the rule about removing the skin, but didn't think 3 small pickeral between 8 men exactly constituted raping the lake and all agreed these guys were on nothing more than a power trip. Out of 50 odd years of fishing I think that is the only bad experience I've ever had with a CO.

And EVERY day will get easier and before you know it, smoking will just be a bad memory. A well deserved CONGRATS !!!!

As a kid in the 50's and then into the 60's myself, brother, Dad and Grandfather used pretty well identical rigs trolling for Lakers on Simcoe. Spooled them with copper line and used large silver Williams Wabblers . Tough work cranking that big reel full of copper with the 1-1 ratio but we used to put alot of fish in the boat. Great memories !!

[quote name=Rick OBanion' date='27 April 2010 - 04:39 PM' timestamp='1272400764' post='460507] It's still April, the hardwood trees here are fully leaved (as are the Birch), fruit trees in blossom, the 'May Flowers' came up three weeks ago, I've cut my lawn three times now... Good to hear your having spring down your way Rick cause we had snow up here an hour ago. Probably just Mother Nature letting us know she's still in charge though

Gonna be an awesome ride when it's all put together JP and like others have said, it's really interesting to watch the build process. Keep us up-dated.

Strikes me as odd Louie that one person would go thru "a few of them" and have major issues when everyone else is very satisfied. Almost makes me think he must be awful rough on his gear. I put far more hours on my boat than most guys do and so far the Fortrex has been flawless.....touch wood Anyways, I'd say you can have full confidence that it'll work flawlessly for you too.
-
That's the 1st time I've heard of any problems with the aluminum Louis, do you have any other info on it ?? My Fortrex was new with the boat last summer and I was on the water nearly every day from the beginning of May right thru to the fall and never had any issues with anything.
-
Your gonna be VERY happy with that Fortrex Louis, it's what I'm running on my boat and it's by far the best TM I've ever owned. Your boats coming together really nice and it'll be good to see the pics of the finished product.

Their not hiding very well Wayne cause I had them all in my back yard this morning. In fact I think we've got more gobblers around here than Robins
-
Thanks for that Pete, what a fantastic picture of something that you and I both had the priveledge of going thru but also something that's hard to explain to someone who's never experienced it. Wildest trip I ever made was running thru 75' waves while crossing the North Sea on our way in to Norway. That's the kinda stuff that stays with you for a lifetime. Here's a great website you may enjoy too Pete with forums for most of the Navies of the world including some good stuff about Canadian ships. http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/index.php

Best of luck in the new job my friend, BPS is losing a great asset. I spose now that Diane won't be getting her hugs anymore, she won't bother joining me on my annual Christmas shopping trip to the store again

You'd look good in that big red Bullet Pete

Congratulations Jason, I just had a look at that boat on the net and she's a real beaut !! I was across the Causeway twice yesterday and wish I'd seen you guys out there. I luv this time of year when everybodies out buying new boats
