  5. This fella is a good guy to fish with so you may want to give him a try. My picture is on his website but I have no affiliation with his company and have never hired him as a guide. We used to fish together but just as friends and he's a good musky fisherman. http://kawarthafishing.com/
  6. Condolances Simon, from my family to yours.
  7. That's tough news Chris, I know how much Arnie meant to you. Sad news and sorry for your loss
  8. As long as you can get the prop spinning enough to make some noise they'll work well Bill.
  9. It's hard to put a timeline on it Mike, you just have to trust your instincts as to whether the fish are on or not or when the bite has stopped. We'll sometimes get 3 or 4 fish in the 1st couple hours of darkness then they'll just shut right down, or the bite may continue right into the night. Same basics as daytime fishing, but use big baits that make lots of noise, rather than flash, and work them just slow enough to maintain the depth you want.
  10. Thanks Mike, and good luck on your next night-time trip. Big muskies in the dark are a true blast !!
  11. Same idea as a following fish in daylight Mike, if guys in the boat start waving their arms and jumping around your gonna spook the fish away. If she's following a bait in darkness and then there's a light shining in her eyes, it's un-natural to her and could chase her away too. I also turn off my stern nav light too as that casts a pretty strong beacon that could spook a following fish...and yes, I know it's against the law At least that's my experience, for what it's worth.
  12. I've been fishing nightime muskies for many years Mike and for my boat, it's always lights out until the fish hits. Your eyes will adjust to the blackness and the fish are very good at finding your bait in the dark. Only turn your headlamp on AFTER you set the hook. In many areas we fish the muskies will often move into very shallow waters to feed at night and we get them in as little as 12" of water. You can actually hear them thrashing around like carp. Pencil reeds and sand in shallow waters are a favorite spot for them at night. BIG spinnerbaits are excellent to work thru the reeds and jointed 10" Believers hooked through the shallow eye are great to walk along the surface on the outside edge. Work the baits slow and steady and at least in my own experience, most of the hits will happen right at the boat as you go into an "L" turn. Alot of times too when you raise a fish in the daytime and can't get her to commit, you can mark the spot and come back after dark and often get her. A favorite story of mine was raising 3 fish one day without a hit, but I went back out that night, followed my waypoints and got all 3 of them. Always good when a plan comes together This is an old picture I've posted before, but it shows the kinda fish you can get late at night in 1-2 feet of water.
  13. I'd go with St. Croix, I've seen quite a few Fenwicks, including brand new, break for no reason, but only talking about the musky series.
  14. That's priceless Mike, hooking a fish while showing Jade how to do a figure 8. Jades getting to be an excellent musky fishergirl too and you guys make quite a team. See you guys in 2 weeks
  15. Nothing gets the ole ticker fired up quite as much as night time muskies !! Goodun Mike !!

    Bait making

Not a Weagle Roy, but a Doc, one of Pete Mainas baits and an excellent topwater. And yes, I do TEE all my center and front hooks. It saves alot of wear & tear on the lures but I find it also ups the hooking percentage. On my triple hook twitch baits, like that Double "D", I remove the center hook entirely and up the front hook a couple sizes too. Gives the bait a better action and also improves the neutral buoyancy while still hooking very well. I always enjoy tweaking baits to improve them.
  17. I've got this Coleman Blackcat heater sitting here collecting dust Cliff and your welcome to it if it's any use to you for the hut. You just need to attach a 1 lb. propane bottle and it's good to go. It's great for a tent on cold fall nights but don't know how it'd work on frigid winter outtings, but if your hut is gonna be insulated it should be OK. Anyways, it's yours if you want it.

    Bait making

I don't build baits Roy, but I'll sometimes repaint them if I don't find the original colors working the way I want. Here's a few I've repainted but there's nothing fancy, but then again, I've never found muskies to be too fussy when their hungry You can also see the black spots on top of some of the baits where I've removed the rattles and epoxyed over the holes. BumbleBee Double "D" in the bottom pic turned out to be one of my best producers, so it's often worth re-doing a bait if it's not working.
  19. Skipper, I've got a spare transducer & cable your welcome to if it'll fit your sonar. It's off a Lowrance X-510C and the tag on the cable says HST-WSBL wide angle. If it's compatible with your unit, and all you need is the transducer and cable, lemme know.
  20. When I made this reply to Brian it was just in response to an inside joke between us.
  21. Good to hear the day went so well for you guys Skipper. Can't beat a day on the water with your brother !!

You've always made good baits Roy and I'm still running the ones you made several years ago.
