It's been nearly 44 years since I went on the job Bob and the differences in both technologies and techniques are unbelievable.....some good and some not so good. I was full time (Toronto) but I spose things are the same for the volunteer outfits as well. Long gone are the good ole days of just kicking in the door and putting out the fire. Nowadays, there's 27 guys lookin over your shoulder to make sure your doing it right. Been retired over 11 years now but still miss the job.....'cept when it's snowing & blowing and 10 below.

Thanks folks, it was indeed a great weekend. Next trip is a few days on Lake St. Clair next month. I forgot about it, but I actually did take a picture and it's of the cormorants on the Larry. An absolute HUGE flock of them that we saw. Tough to guess numbers but there must have been literally hundreds of birds grouped together sitting on the water. Lotsa seagulls but the majority were cormorants. There's only a few here but many many more outside of the camera lens. Maybe they were all grouped together out in the middle to avoid the many goose hunters in the reed beds on the weekend

I use to hunt ducks and geese years ago...

Ten years ago me and buddy were casting a nice little bay one evening when a hunter in his camo boat came into the bay, pulled up beside me and told me to get out of "his" bay because he wanted to kill some birds from there and I was in his way. I told him it wasn't polite to order folks around and seeing as he was such a jerk we may just hang around till the sun went down, which we did. He got mad and left but as he was going past me I told him that next time he wanted to hunt an area and someone was already there before him, a change in attitude and maybe a "please" may get him a bit more co-operation. Folks with attitude problems shouldn't own guns. -
It's a massive body of water Larry and I've got no problem sharing it with everyone else. I just wish when their flying down the lake at 75 MPH and I'm trolling, they give me more than 50' clearance when the lake is several miles wide.

Next time your out that way Paul, take a couple empty plastic jugs tied to some bricks and set them on the outside edges of the shoal. Most folks should realize what they mean. Other than sitting there 24/7 waving folks away, there's not much more that you can do.

Nice looking fishing rig you picked up there Cliff, infact VERY nice, you'll be set for a long time now !!

Go for it Nick, it's a job that'll give you alot of satisfaction. It's nice going home at the end of the day knowing you've helped someone who was in trouble. Stop in the local firehall when you see the boys around and talk to them for awhile. They'll be a great group of guys that'll be more than happy to give you all the info you need.

Like a swarm of hornets at times Larry

Like we do every September, Squid and I headed down to look for a musky on the St. Lawrence River (Lake St. Francis) near Cornwall. The weather was fantastic all 3 days and we were able to fish in shorts & T-shirts which is pretty darned good for the end of September. I landed 3 muskies and Pete lost one near the boat, then I had another one blow up on my bait beside the boat but couldn't stick her. We met Musky Mike and his bud on the water yesterday morning and shot the bull with them for awhile. Got home last night after a fun couple days. I seldom take musky pics anymore so you'll just have to take my word for it

If you can't find them in P'Boro Norm, head over to Foodland in Lakefield, that's where we buy them. Then stop in here for a coffee on your way home.

Awesome !! Took you awhile to get into big fish Rich but your making up for it now with 2 nice ones this year and it couldn't have happened to a nicer, more deserving guy. You've worked hard at it and now your getting your rewards. And a BIG congrats to Patsy on that bruiser she landed too, that's a great way to start off. Some guys fish a lifetime and never see a fish like that. Really happy for the pair of you !!

Mornin boys, I've been away on a fishing trip to the St. Lawrence River for a few days and only got back last night and just came across this thread now. I've had several PM's over the last few months about my picture being on that website but it's not a problem for me. Rick used to be a member of this board a long time ago and him and I became friends and used to fish for muskies together quite often, but after he left the board we sorta drifted apart. I didn't know he was running a charter service now and also didn't know he used a picture of me, but like I said above, it's not a problem with me and I wish him well with the business. That picture was taken the 1st day we ever met and I got that fish about 10 minutes into the trip. Rick had a white floor in his boat and I got my thumb slashed open by a tooth and made a real mess of the boat until we got the fish released and me bandaged up. You can see the blood on my left hand and I've still got the scar. Not a good way to impress a new fishing partner Anyways, thanks to all for your concerns.

I've sold several items on Kijiji in the last year and have had nothing but great luck with the sales. Infact I even posted a story here about how well one of them went. Maybe I'm just lucky

Maybe he was just tryin to mooch a smoke off ya

I don't fish nearly as much as I used to, I just seem to have alot of other stuff going on these day. I used to average around 70-100 muskies a year so maybe I just wore myself out This is my largest fish so far this year but BIG fish season is starting and we do a few fall trips every year to BIG fish waters, both in Eastern and Southwestern Ontario.
