  1. If a picture of the hut were required to register the thing; that would go a long way, in getting people to make sure it was off the ice in time. Dan.
  2. Just remember that grp31 is only the case size; inside that case is what's important. Check what the amp hour rating is and the reserve capacity; the higher those numbers the stronger/better the battery. If you don't remember what you're looking for numbers wise, pick the battery up; the heavier the better. Dan.
  3. Do yourself a favor and get a lawyer and or a law firm involved ASAP. Most law firms will offer a free consultation, too determine whether there’s enough of a case to justify them getting involved. Why I say a law firm is that they’ll have a number of associate lawyers in the firm and will direct you too whoever is best suited to handle such a case. Going to a one lawyer office; he/she may not be familiar with the presidents of this type of case and give you the bum’s rush out the door. My daughter is a personal injury lawyer at McKenzie Lake here in London and she’s the one that has suggested this route; when I told her about this thread. Dan.
  4. I know that New York state has an agreement with Ontario for diving offences. I got stopped for not wearing my seat belt. I was warned by the trooper that if I didn't pay the fine; the MTO would not issue my license plate sticker until it was. So hopefully there is something like that for the MNR? Dan.
  5. Yea I agree with Craig, the best defense is to stop them from getting at the feeder. Down at our trailer park we're over run with coons and that's what works the best for us. It even gets for good entertainment; ever watch a coon trying to climb a greased steel pole or try and get around one of those cones? Plus the coons have taught the campers to keep their sites clean of garbage and food scraps. I have trapped, relocated and made them disappear in the past; it's only a short term fix, because there will be another one as soon as it spies the food. I stopped trapping them at the park because of a very close call with the MNR and the warning about the charges they could lay. A tree huger at the park called the tips line on me; but it was a good lesson learned. You're not allowed to euthanize a trapped animal, unless you have a trapper's license. You're not allowed to relocate an animal any more than one kilometer from where they were trapped. What's the sense of that; the coon will likely be back waiting for you on your porch. LOL So now when I have too trap a pest that won't give up; I call a licensed trapper to come and collect it. If the coon has a good pelt the guy will even give me a few buck for it. Dan.
  6. I've just finished rebuilding a set of 3 carbs (6 Pack) for a 67 GTO. These carbs haven't been used for at least 20 years and with the tarnish I found inside they were likely put away wet. The tarnish was like cement, even after soaking in a can of metal prep/cleaner the tarnish still didn't soften; some passageways were plugged solid. As a last ditch effort too save the carbs, I sent the parts into a machine shop to have them put into a hot tank and that got them clean. My point being, sometimes the arousal cans of cleaner are just not corrosive enough to get everything clean. You may spray into a passageway and think its a blind hole when actually it's plugged with some form of harry lump. With these small carbs I usually strip a wire twist tie and use the thin wire to chase out the passageways. Dan.
  7. For the number of times you're going to tow; rent a truck or a full sized van. I just went to the U-Hall web site and got an estimate for a 7 day rental and 500klm for a cargo van and it came to $299.00. I also think there are cheaper places you could rent from? There use to be a place here in London called Ugly Duckling Rentals. They were older vehicles but were reasonably maintained with things like AC not working or some bents here and there. Yea it'll cost you a few hundred bucks; but so will the trans cooler, a load leveling hitch to distribute the tongue weight and the possibility of blowing out a 3 grand transmission. One other thing to think about, regardless of whether the caravan can pull the boat; can it stop it in a panic situation? Dan.

X2 on any of the GM gen III engines; in all the years they've been out, we haven't seen any or not many reoccurring issues with these engines. 2 years ago I installed a 1999 4.8lt out of a Silverado pick-up into my 1950 Chev Styleline sedan. 300K klm on this engine and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. It just plays with this car, that is only 500lbs lighter then the pick-up; talk about waking up the old girl and I know it would pull a 20 footer boat without any issues. Dan.

  12. That be great to get out and wet a line with you and the kids Ryan. Andy (my son) and I are just beginning to look for a new to us boat; if that works out, we'll get the kids out on the bay for some perch and maybe potahawk for a swim. My card is starting to fill up though; doing a pig roast in June at Andy's Stag & Doe, trailer trash events at the park and who knows what in-between the fish-a-thon (hopping to make it there this year), my week up North and Andy's wedding in September. If we get the boat we're hoping to (18-20' bow-rider); there will be more then enough safe room for you and your brood. LOL Dan.

  15. We went to Elk Cabins last year; it's just down river of the town of Elk Lake and we've booked it again for this year. Didn't see a jet-ski, water skier or a pleasure boat all week. On the weekend there were a few other fishers out; but during the week, over the course of the day you'd maybe see another 2 or 3 guys out. Elk Lake being part of the Montreal river system, the water was always calm enough to be out in a 14 footer that the lodge provided. Lots of bass, walleye and if you like pike fishing, Mountain lake (about 3 or 4 miles down river) will give you all the pike you'd like. We didn't hit any trophy pike but the average was 30+ inches with a mix of hammer handles. The cottages at Elk Cabins were the usual older cabins; but they were clean and well stocked with cooking hardware and a BBQ on the deck. No I don't work for them; it was just nice to find a fishing camp right on a main highway; that once your there and out on the water you wouldn't know that you're only a few miles down river of a town. Run out of supplies (brown pop) it's about a 20 minute round trip to restock. Dan.
  16. If there is an Interstate battery close to you give them a try. I've been using one of their sealed emergency lighting batteries for a couple of years now. The battery fits inside the case of the finder and I can go three or four days without having to charge the thing. I think I paid something around $25.00 for it. Dan.
  17. Get a weight distribution hitch, to get some of the weight off the ball and spread between the van & trailer. Then some form of (surge or electric) brakes on the trailer and your Toyota will pull that boat and carry your family safely anywhere you want to go. Dan.

  19. A bunch of pooled water here in my end of London. I slept through most of the storm. That's until this one big clap of thunder and my 90lb basset hound decides he's coming to sleep with me. I should say on top of me and every once of that 90lbs was shaking like a leaf. Dan.
  20. I would say call your lawyer and ask his/her's advice, most phone consultations are free, for a few simple questions. When you mail your letter to this person, make mention that you've be in touch with your lawyer and you're following their advice. If this is a scam; you'll likely never hear from them again. Dan.

  22. Bassassin has it right; buy commercial grade bulbs and you won't be changing them anywhere near as often. When I used to use incandescent trouble lights here at the garage; I couldn't use a standard household bulb in them. One slightest tap on the side of the trouble light's cage and out went the bulb. With the commercial bulb, you could damn near drop kick the trouble light across the shop and it would still be lit. Dan.
  23. Yea same for us, St Williams (Long Point Bay); 5 people, 7 hours & 2 perch. But man did we had a good time, I don't think I've laughed as much in a long time; the perch would just have been a bonus. LOL Dan.

I would try a dry brine on them; it'll draw some of the heavy oils out before smoking them. 1 cup of course salt, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar, crushed pepper corns, onion & garlic power to taste. Wash and pat fillets dry, then in a plastic or glass resealable container add all ingredients and mix. Now rub the brine all over the fillets; then cover fillet with remaining brine. Seal the lid on the container and place in the fridge for 8-10 hours. Don't use a metal pot for this; the brine could draw toxins out of aluminium or give the fillets a tinny taste from steel. You could line either with a food grade plastic bag. When you take them out of the fridge, you'll be surprised at how much liquid has formed. Wash the fillets in clean cold water and place on a drying rack and let stand for 5-6 hours, in a cool room not the fridge. During the drying time a sticky film will develop on the fillets and that's a good thing. It will allow the smoke to adhere and penetrate the meat better. Now you're ready to get smoken. Use some type of fruit wood, they're not as harsh as hickory or some of the other woods. Only use one of the BBQ's burners (assuming your's has two); wood on direct heat, fish on in-direct heat. Get the BBQ heat up to around 200 degrees and then place your wood in. Once it starts to smoke place the fillets in; if they still have it, skin side down. Now the hard part, don't open the BBQ for at least 3/4's to an hour; just try and keep the heat around the 200 mark. The only time you need to open the BBQ is to add some wood chips or take the internal temp of the fish. When the fillet's internal temp is 140 to 150 they're done; any hotter and the meat will be dry. You could also sprinkle a bit of orange and or lemon juice on the fillets before they go in the BBQ, along with your favorite spices. If you're worried about or don't like a lot of salt you could soak the fillets in cold water for an hour before you place them out on a rack for drying. Forgot to add; you should also put a pan of water, juice (Apple orange whatever) or your favorite beer in the BBQ while you're smoking; it'll add a bit of flavor and moisture. Good luck and have fun.
