  1. Give this a thought; a good tech is usually in one of two positions. He's has his own legit shop or is being paid well at a legit shop; that there's no need to do side jobs. That being said he could be a greedy guy that wants more money; meaning you're not leaving without paying full pop anyway. LOL One other thing that most people do not realize about going to a legitimate repair facility. We have all the required insurances and have to abide by the law when dealing with people. For example a piece of repair equipment fails (Engine hoist) and drops the motor on a fender; it's covered by insurance. By law we must offer a minimum of a 90 day warrantee on parts & labour that are sold to you. Try getting anything like that out of a back yarder. Dan.
  2. I don't know about the truck driving thing; but you're already trained in electronics. Have you ever thought of the automotive field; it's no longer a hammer & screwdriver, back breaking trade; not for all of us anyway. The average econobox car has as many as 10-12 computers networking and sharing information to keep all of the systems working. We need young electronic smart people in our trade; once you have been recognized as a good diagnostician you can dam near wright your own ticket. Dan.
  3. When you're doing the rewiring get rid of the Scotchloc connectors; they have to be the worse for corrosion and rotting wiring. Use an un-insulated barrel connectors or solder along with shrink tube. It'll save you a whole bunch of grief in the future. Dan.
  4. I've got a 16X12 set up in my back yard that's been there since last October. Used it all winter to BBQ in and I have my smoker set up in there as well. Yea every once an a while I have to tighten the ratchet straps. For the snow load I bought a couple hundred feet of cheep 1/4" rope; that I tied in a zigzag pattern between the ridge pole and the top wall poles. There's enough of a pitch to the roof that a couple of taps by hand from the inside the snow just slid off. A poor man's man cave and no fridge required; had to put the mix in a cooler to stop it from freezing. The Rye only went slushy a couple of times. Dan.
  5. Since I sold my boat, it's been rentals at the different lodges I've been to. What I've done for the suction cup mount, is to cut a number of 4X4 inch square pieces of Plexiglas plates. Then with the lodge owner's permission, I silicone one of these plate to the transom of the boat we're using for that week. I don't think I've ever had the suction cup come off yet. At the end of the week, a putty knife slipped under the plate and it pops right off; but most times when asked the lodge owner says to leave it on for the next guest. If by chance the owner says not to attach the plate; a small piece of wet fine grit sand paper or emery cloth is a good back up; clean the oxidation away from the mounting area and you're good to go. Dan.
  6. I bet it would be a concern if things were turned around with the Canadian flag on top and the cabin was on US soil. I’m pretty sure we’d have to deal with the American second amendment of the constitution and we’d be warring Kevlar suits. Dan.
  7. No I said a ran a site for 12 year but that doesn't matter. The consignment guys are safe because its the companies gas in the ground and we all know they're not loosing anything. How it worked for me was that I got the price per liter on the day of ordering the load. If we worked the market right we bought before a "price restoration" (Their words not mine) and the load would be delivered two or three days later at that price, regardless of street price. And to answer your last question of one day to the next; YES I'm talking stocking dealers not company opt sites. Dan.
  8. I'm not defending the oil companies; because it sure does look like price fixing; ya think? LOL It's the independent gas station operators who have to play the market to stay alive in the business and why it never drops as fast as it goes up; I ran a gas station for 12 years. Now lets say it's you that just filled your stations tanks at $1.25 Lt; lets say that equals $80-90 grand in the ground. The street price when you bought the fuel was $1.29 so you're making 4 cents a Lt. The next day the street price jumps to $1.35; but you decide to hold your price down and man are you busy and need to order more gas. But now your price is a $1.32 and street price is on it's way down to a buck 33 you're only making 1 cent if you want to stay competitive. The next thing you see is the street price has dropped to a buck 30, now you're loosing 2 cents. That's when you realize that being a good guy just cost you a whack of money. So yea you want to buy as cheap as possible and hold the price up as long as you can. When I was into this I was averaging 2-2.5 cent a Lt over the course of a year. I can remember making 10-15 grand off of one load of fuel and loosing it the next. 90% of the dealers now are on consignment and the oil company dictates the street price, offering the dealer 1 cent a Lt commission; That's when I got out. Dan.
  9. Have you called or went to see Lee Wright In Burgessville; he's my nephew by marriage. http://ontariomarinas.notjustfishing.com/wrightchoice.shtml I know he's busy as all get out this time of year; but if you explain that you have the thing apart, have the replacement parts and what you need from him; he'll likely (can't promise) do it for you? Lee's fair with his pricing; but he does know how to wright a bill. But like the old saying, if you want to play you got a pay. Tell him Uncle Danny sent you. Dan.
  10. Head out to a parking lot with a buddy; have them drive the tow vehicle, while you're in the boat watching for what/where the slop is? I've had to weld the pin hole on the receiver for a few customer; four or five tacks and then drill it out to the proper size. Takes longer to get the welder out then it is to do the job. If the draw bar hole is worn; they're not very expensive go get another one, along with a locking pin. Why I say a locking pin; we were rigging out of Sugarloaf for the day and it was dark when we go back in. Loaded up the boat and started heading home. Every time we started to go or slowed down CLUNK. Got out to check what was up and found that someone soled the pin; the safety chains were the only thing holding the draw bar from coming out. Dan.
  11. He's probably complaining because you haven't thanked him yet for eating as many mosquitoes as he can for you. DAn.
  12. Wave Whacker and White Cap still make them. Dad.
  13. Here you go; a set of these should appease the wife. Dan
  14. Aren't those set-ups called WIDOW MAKERS? I didn't understand why the guy I was fishing with called it that; not until I had a fish on. Dan
  15. I've got a wood awning on my deck at the trailer and when the neighbors saw that I was installing a ceiling fan they all laughed. "Why would you want a ceiling fan on an open air deck?" Guess where a bunch of them come to sit now when the skeeters are bad. The breeze from the fan usually keeps the little burgers at bay; step off the deck and you had better start running. We also have these little lantern things that we place under the table; between both we can sit out fairly comfortable. http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/sports-rec/camping/mosquito-repellents/off-powerpad-mosquito-lamp-0593540p.html#.U4xthXJdWSo Dan.
  16. Tell your wife to try Avon's Skin So Soft. My wife swears by it. http://reviews.avon.com/5588/7894/reviews.htm Dan
  17. Was out with a buddy and his 8 year old son for some perching; just West of Port Dover. The fishing was slow but the young guy never complained; but you could see he was board out of his head. His Dad says well I guess it's time to head in Spencer. The kid got so excited that he pitched his rod over the side; put his vest back on and moved up to the seat beside his dad and never made a sound. We just sat there for a minute looking at each other and then broke out laughing. The kid is 19 or 20 now and he still turns red when I ask him about the fishing rod that he lost. Dan.
  18. Kind of the same thing with a buddies boat; that thing pulled the tiller to starboard so bad that if he let go the boat would pitch hard to port. The thing was dangerous anything above half throttle. After some convincing he let me adjust the fin above the prop; only turned it maybe a 1/4 inch. He couldn't believe it; wide open throttle and all he had to do is rest his hand on the tiller. Simple adjustments that make a world of difference. Dan.
  19. Trimmed in will drive the bow down Trimmed out will pitch the bow up Dan.
  20. Not to rain on this; but have to reported that you've found a lost dog to animal control or the cops? A dog of this caliber likely was not abandoned? It might be hard to give him up, if the owners did come looking; but if he were mine that became lost I'd want him back. Dan.
  21. Live-in French Maid???????????
  22. I have pulled more slivers of Teflon tape out of fuel pumps, carb needle and seats and injectors then I care to remember. I use this stuff and have never had a problem with leakage or contamination. http://www.permatex.com/products-2/product-categories/gasketing/gasket-sealants/permatex--aviation-form-a-gasket--no--3-sealant-liquid-detail Dan.
  23. You'd need to have two response teams, if you were to pull that on me. The paramedics to get me to the hospital after the heart attack. Then an industrial clean up crew to clean the butt spray off the walls. LOL But I did have a good laugh at the thought of getting a couple of my buddies this year at the fish camp. Dan.
  24. Good one John; glad you got it working. Dan.
  25. All the batteries in the cart are connected in series forming the 36 volts. Lets say you want to run the headlight on 12 volts, connect the positive lead of the headlight to the positive terminal of any of the six batteries. Then connect the negative lead to the negative terminal of the next battery in the series. You'll then have 12 volts for the headlight. Dan.
