Old Ironmaker replied to AKRISONER's topic in General Discussion
I haven't read much yet, I just wanted to say thanks for the winter pics. If anyone tells me tomorrow "Man it's hot out" I am going to show them those winter wonderland photos. I worked the better part of my career on and in Blast Furnaces, you don't know hot my dear Madam.- 16 replies

I have relatives in Florida. It's 68F there and they are bundled up like they are going ice fishing. I cancelled WFN years ago. Those shows are 1/2 or 1 hour commercials. Not often I learned anything from them. I never had much fun fishing Largies in Fla, or here. Catch a 5 pound fish on 50lb tackle suitable for Musky. Fish on, crank like a bugger for 10 seconds and swing the fish into the boat, take all the salad off the thing, release, repeat.

NF - How safe are infant life jackets?
Old Ironmaker replied to John Bacon's topic in General Discussion
I remember from the Boat test there are no such thing as infant PDF's. They float unless you poke a hole in them. -
Quick Introduction and a question!
Old Ironmaker replied to Velvetsmack's topic in General Discussion
Yea, like 3 years late. Missed the date. There are dozens of small Islands in that area. Pick 1. If no trespassing they are posted. I have never seen a NO TRESPASSING sign on an Island. If there is a McMansion on it you know it's private and owned by German nationals. -
With a whack like that it may be more than a crack. The drive shaft may be bent. Post this ? on iboats.com. If there is an answer 1 of the 10,000 marine gurus will have it.

Fishin' Canada and all the rest. 30 minutes of flogging everything from tackle to tires and everything in between. I had WFN with my Bell package and cancelled it, those shows drive me nuts. Fishin Canada is now a 1/2 infomercial for Cooper Tires and Ram trucks. I don't think Angelo Viola and Pete Bowman should be giving exact GPS co ordinates to the ramps. I had better log off, I have 2 pals and my wife putting in a new kitchen and I told them I searching Google for door handles.

I actual got the joke, took a few minutes but I got it, tee hee. True story, of course. I had a painter here 2 weeks ago, he tells me there is wasps nests in the gable vent he needs to paint, I sealed it 20 years ago. I tell him no I sprayed insulation in it, go ahead paint it. He puts the brush to it and the Wasps next crumbled. No wasps in it, they're Mud Wasps here, dozey little buggers, this place was full of them when I bought it. Nests behind the drywall 4 feet high. Never been stung by a Mud Wasp.

Ratings, ratings, ratings. If you have a winning show they pay. I only watch when I catch it. Years ago I didn't believe my wife these shows were scripted. But then again I lost a 100 bucks when Andre The Giant lost the WWF title to Hogan. Those Alaska shows kill me, why do they wait until winter is around the corner to get the firewood ready and stock the larder? They are all tough jerk's. I forgot about the Newfs fishing, now that is entertainment. Guys are speaking English and we need sub titles to understand the Jeeezus holy jumpin' Jeeezu bay.

No I can't sorry. That map doesn't show them all and there are too many to pick from. -
Quick Introduction and a question!

Great intro, welcome. I would suggest Lac Coulange, Westmeath On. on the Ottawa. You can camp on Hollywood Island, named after this poster. A wide sandy beach on warm clear shallow water. If you see someone all week in the summer they are most likely in a plane. Great fishing, wildlife, bays and islands to explore. If you trek on the islands beware of sinkholes covered in foliage. Can be deadly and have taken a few hikers over the years. You don't have to travel 1000's of kilometers to find paradise in Ontario. We kayaked and canoed there for years, a blast doing the small rapids between lakes. Plus the town is close by but you wouldn't know it. Good luck, be safe have fun. -
Just watching it now, a huge wave hit The Hot Tuna broadside and nearly tossed the 1st Mate overboard if he didn't see it coming and held onto the transom, wow. They hardly ever wear PDF's.

Where is everyone fishing for Bass opener?
Old Ironmaker replied to lunkerbasshunter's topic in General Discussion
I hope not as far as weather goes for all you guys that still have to work for a living. Openner is on Saturdays, always. I will not go out in the boat on the weekend and the worse for boat traffic of them all is Bass opener. I know folks that fish once a year, Bass opener here. I have seen guys fishing for Bass since last Saturday. I guess they can't read a calendar. Not a CO in sight. I might just go to the Marina and watch the launch follies. I plan on going out next Monday. -
The boys down here have been following the show since it started. It's more about the personalities and onboard drama than catching 500lb fish. Does anyone here on OFC? We all have our favorites and a few we wish fell overboard. I have seen episodes where they have fought a fish for close to 24 hours. They sure earn their money. Dave Marciano in his scow that is held together by duct tape is most of the guys faves. Dave Carrano on the Dot.Com is an airline Pilot that does it for a hobby is least likeable. Without his great crew he couldn't catch a cold. For every fish he catches is 1 less fish for those that depend on the Tuna fishery to feed their families, like Marciano. Up therewith Carrano is the kid who's father bought him a fishing oat to get him out of the house "The Pinwheel," he's a pinhead. There's a few crews that act like The Keystone Cops when a fish is on, mayhem followed by bedlam. The thing that gets me about this reality show is no matter what sonar they have on board they all make the identical "bdeep, bdeep" when they mark a fish, courtesy of the editors. My Brother-in- Law from SE Nova Scotia grew up commercial fishing with his Grand Father and Father. He hates boats, fish and the ocean. He is the antithesis of a commercial fisherman, he has a LANDscaping business. He has broken 3 generations of commercial fishermen. He said if you want to know what it feels like to catch a 500 pounder throw a rope over the house and tie it to a fridge, then go to other side and reel it up and over the roof.

Catch more fish, or in my case get a body transplant and go fishing.

Very good move. I get monthly emails from most of the forums that I am a member of andit does remind me to visit more often. Hi BlueEye, I still can't PM anyone. When I hover the window for "Follow Member or "Message" the cursor stays as an arrow. Any thoughts?

Waterspout becomes Tornado in Selkirk On.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the ling Mr. G mech. you guys got hammered. I had to go to Simcoe today and came down Old 24 and down through Waterford. Some places looked like Kansas around Blue Line. Bad here in Selkirk but no comparison. Only 1 minor injury is amazing considering the carnage. It should say 2 injuries actually , the lady in Selkirk suffered a fractured arm. Lucky to say the least. -
At 1/2 price too. The last time I tossed bricks for Musky I had my arm in a sling for a week.

The above Snidley I agree with. Pulling the plug however may contribute to teenage suicide. So we'll put them on Ritalin instead, a much easier solution.

Little Missinabie Lake (a Fly in with Air Dale out of Wawa)
Old Ironmaker replied to RickOnt's topic in General Discussion
Them der are some purdy nice fish. I'm jealous. Perfect eating size. Way to go Sir. -
That's exactly what we did when I got my first Eagle Ultra 30 years ago. 3 guys huddled around the thing and no one watching until we hit a big rock sticking out of the water 3 feet. Duhhh. The 3 Stooges go fishing. It' true, you won't take on water with a big hole in the bow once you are on plane. The problem is the time you aren't running WOT.

Yep that will work Pump, maybe not for flouro though. Nice and neat easy to get out. Plus not much $$$$. The one in the pic looks to hold wire leaders. I am thinking flouro may get carbunkled* all together if loose in the tube. Try a few wrapped around 1" Styrofoam noodles. I got a few 1" noodles they used as packing on the chair legs my wife brought home. See if they get memory curl. * One of the oldtimers from work Oswaldo Giacomelli called birds nests Carbunklements. Now we do. His legacy is greater than that. Google his name, what an interesting youth he had. Prisoner of War at 16 here in Canada. He was born in here in Canada.
