I dunno. It seems to me as soon as the new technology is out it is a year outdated. But looking at the thing I sure would love me one. My Garmin's have always been my best electronics over the years. I still use a 23 year old black and white sonar. I use that for sonar and the Humminbird set on GPS. When I switch the HB to sonar to check the accuracy of the old, and I mean old Garmin it matches. HB shows a hook sure enough the old girl shows a nice fish image and a beeeeep beeeep, I wish a new huge Garmin like Big Dave's units were in the budget. Not this year. I'm afraid to ask, how much $$?

Really hitting the nail head Bruce. I miss OFC. I know I don't fish as much as I would love to so can't contribute reports. But can pass on advice. We actually planned an outing with 2 boats tomorrow out of Pt. Maitland but have electricians coming. A called in an old favour. And it is the sons of my electrician that is semi retired. Can't really say "Here's what I need boys, I'm going fishing." Doesn't sit well with me. Even M2B2 is AWOL. 30 posts a day and now nothing. I hope he is OK.

Grass seed and re-seeding/ patching lawns question, nf

The last time I was on Astroturf I dislocated my knee. Tore MCL, ACL and PCL. Limping for the last 40 years, Astroturf is dangerous stuff. The 1st generation stuff at Ivor Wynne in Hamilton was brand spankin' new in HS and was like sandpaper, it would scrape the 1st 2 or 3 layers of skin off and glue got in there and you got a nasty infection. -

I tried a few times with other 1st Mates, never could recreate the rope around the post fail. That was the only way. After that I never put the casting seat in unless casting for Bass. Always one of the other seats, much more comfortable Perch fishing anyway. -
Ok Snidley my man. I just couldn't wait any longer to read what you wrote. Thank you for the entertainment. You are 100% correct on all counts. I would consider writing a screenplay based on your post, maybe we can co-write it. I paid the $29.99 plus shipping for the online screen play writing course. It might be titled "How A Cook Was Murdered By CNN "

Snidley my man. I read the first 3 sentences f your political diatribe and stopped. Read the thing Art wrote about "Political posts." I have been guilty and now Art just deletes them and gives me a heads up that he did so but doesn't have to. I am going to watch the Football game and if I can't sleep will read your view on the State of the Union, or confederacy here in Canada. I hope you didn't pen any fake news.

A neighbour listed their property today, $859,900.00. Wowza. They are from Toronto. I better think hard about a new price. Unbelievable. 46 Hoover Point Road, Selkirk. RE/Max, Tammy Carpenter. -

What type of roller would you use Akri? Can't agree more about the best soil. The stuff they sell like Scotts is more marketing than effective. If you have a connection with someone in the Municipality that has public Golf Courses or someone that works at a Golf Course they use the best seeds available, bar none. Grass is their livelihood. The stuff I used to get from my golf course grew on a Bowling Ball I tell ya'. Know any members of a course? They may be able to score you some grass. Not that kind. -
I have to applaud all of you Emergency Services folks, fire, ambulance, Paramedics, Nurses and Police. I probably missed some, sorry. I was almost a Fire Fighter like my Father in Law and Brother in Law were until I spoke to a few of the guys after I applied. Fires and rescue I could handle, we did that at the Steel Plant already, and saving Cats in trees. The stories about attending suicides and seeing children that didn't make it kept me at the Steel plant for 25 more years. Thank you all for your service guys. I have been too close to those that have committed suicide in the last 25 years, close friends, family members and co-workers. More than a few from the outside looking in I thought they had it made in the shade. Well off, successful, handsome, beautiful, outgoing, talented beyond imagine, family men and women. I just can't fathom how much pain someone has to be in to go to that extreme. I just can't imagine. I didn't know anyone I went to school with in the 60's and early 70's that committed suicide. We just didn't hear about it back then. Today it seems to be a daily event, and tragically most are young. And it is SNIDLEY that wins Jack Ass comment of the month, maybe year but it's still early enough for me to take 1st place.

Burbon+ice and Inconnu on Great Slave lake
Old Ironmaker replied to scuro2's topic in General Discussion
Chris, man that was a trip some only dream about. A once in a lifetime. Coneys? I was trying to think what they were. Inconnu, only heard of them on those Alaska reality shows. Man they do look like Tarpon, they also bear a good resemblance to Florida Snook without the striped lateral line. As they say about what clothing to wear, you can always take it off but if you don't bring it you can't put it on. Once on a trip to Lynn Lake MB the Americans brought snowmobile suits and a few guys from T.O. must have thought they were going to Myrtle Beach in May. They had to buy old used clothing from the guides that made a killing selling them. Good for them I said. On spring trips we brought clothing for 4 seasons. Snow Ball fights in the morning and brown pops in 72F with sunscreen in the afternoon. I have to live vicariously now through many of you young Bucks wonderful trips. A few new knees a hip and a shoulder or 2 and I may be able to handle a trip like that soon. Do they have brain replacements available yet these days? Fantastic report and pics, thank you Chris. -
Waterspout becomes Tornado in Selkirk On.

And I was upset that the dish went out and I missed 10 minutes of Judge Judy. Middle of the Tornado and only missed Judge Judy. -
Around 5 the sky got pitch black, the wind picked up and the thunder started. The rain came down in buckets, the lights flickered a few times. lost the TV and Internet. Nothing unusual here on Erie. Around 7 I decided to go to the village and get myself a treat as my wife is working the afternoon shift at her store. I had to move some branches from behind the car. As I pulled out my neighbour Paul saw me and asked if I had been out since the storm. The lakeshore was impassable when he tried to go to town earlier and trees were across Lakeshore Drive. I headed towards town and saw Hydro trucks and Haldimand County vehicles everywhere. The graders were out pushing debris off the road. I passed a few places and saw 80' or taller Maples ripped from the lawns. 40' wide roots on Jennie's manicured Golf Course like yard. Oh my. She's standing there looking at the carnage with tears in her eyes. At the creek the OPP were there with the road blocked. I went back to the cottage to get my phone/camera. Of course I don't know how to use it, got it last Friday. Went the back way into town. Power was on and everyone was standing around looking past the OPP blockade. The story is a Waterspout was seen coming straight off the Lake heading North. It hit land and became a Tornado. It went straight up Erie Ave. and took massive trees out along the way. I am told 1 lady was taken by ambulance when a tree fell on the car she was in. I saw some singles missing on the roof and where a steel roof that was peeled back. It should be in our Newspaper sometime in July. This was a bad one. Go online and Google Tornado damage photos to see what the aftermath was. Thank goodness just trees and roofs and not homes and people.

Tried my hand at guiding this morning
Old Ironmaker replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
You sure have that Toon loaded with goodies eh Brian? You have more electronics on that thing than NASA launched for the Gemini Space Program. I would insure it for 50K at least with all the "Brian Toon Tuning" There's a side business. BTT, "Brian's Toon Tuning LLC". They bring in their basic personal pontoon and you do all the add on gagets like they do with celebrity cars at the custom car shops. -

Old Ironmaker replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
No Brian I didn't think you were serious about guiding. We've never met but from reading your stuff I know you know your fishin' and are too smart to guide, who needs that pressure? I do have a question though Brian. How do you down rig in a Toon? I might even get the bottom of the boat wet tomorrow or Friday. 2 cabinets are missing from the Kitchen my wife bought so am at a standstill until in. They should suspend my fishing and boating license because of lack of use this year. -
REPORT FROM THE LAST FEW DAYS
Old Ironmaker replied to lunkerbasshunter's topic in General Discussion
Looking at those wonderful pics the old "A bad day fishing is better than any good day working." We've driven 17 hours north of Hamilton to the Long Lac area and had some zero catch days and were questioning our choice of hobby and the decision to go north rather than south Golfing in Myrtle Beach. Then from out of nowhere the bite was on and they were jumping in the boat. My brother and his buddy are no more than 6 feet from us, they are getting skunked and we are limiting out fishing for Walleye, they are going to kill each other. They say we have the good spot. So here's the good spot young brother, and we lift anchor and switch spots. We keep catching and they get nada. Who knows why? I said maybe the scent of Stupid Stick (Mary Juwanna) on their hands. Might be we are bottom bouncing jigs and they are casting floating Rapps, because jigs don't work there and Rappala's worked 3 years earlier. That'll do it I bet. After listening to those 3 Gamokes I was ready for a puff myself and I don't smoke the stuff. What I am so terribly trying to convey is sometimes the simplest thing will change your luck. I've tossed the kitchen sink at them and nada/ziltch/nienti worked. Reached deep down in the box and pulled out the stupidest looking 25 year old bait that should be in a Museum and hammered them. One of the 1st things I did when going to a new spot is go to the local bait shop and see what is missing most on the tackle display. That's what the locals usually buy out first. -

I hear ya, happy wife/life thing. I really don't know why our grass is so green and grows like on anabolic steroids? Never water it, ever. I see grass in Hamilton and Caledonia that looks burnt. Maybe we have so much moisture in the air next to the lake and plenty of shade from the big trees on the property. Come to think of it we really don't have grass, more like 5 kinds of green weeds. -

The Bassassin. Negotiable. My wife says not to post pictures of the place until it's done and ready for prime time. Also we are selling a cottage not a boat that comes with a cottage. -

Old Ironmaker replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
Hamilton put down fake grass on a few boulevards on Upper James asan experiment where they had planted beautiful flowers a few years back. It took more manpower to hand pick all the paper, plastic bags, Hortons cups etc. off the stuff that was like Velcro than the maintenance to care for the flowers. -

Real Estate in south western On.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Good news today on the reno situation. The Armour Rock slid down from a 50 year storm we had this spring. Had a 100 year storm last fall that started the erosion of the lakefront. In order to reset the wall an excavator has to walk here in the water. Both the MNRF and the Long Point Conservation Authority approved my plan and issued the permits today. We can't put the machine in the water until July 2nd due to fish spawn, I have no problem with that, it is what it is. 3 weeks for approval from each beurocracy, (even spell check can't get that word). 3 weeks is fast, believe me. Hopefully we will put it on Com Free or Point2 by August 1st. Real Estate commissions are brutal. Brokers wake up every AM and their revenues go up by 3% a month because of the market. Great time to be an agent. 25 grand on 500K, not a bad day. If anyone is interested in a 1000 sqft. totally renovated, new furnace and central AC beachfront Lake Erie property where you can watch Small Mouth, Gar Pike and Carp spawn from the deck while having a Pop drop me a PM. Finders fee applies. I will put this on the classifieds Art.
