The near province wide power outage in Nova Scotia recently was caused by the remnants of that Hurricane dropped a land shark on the power plant!

Hey Paul. Maybe that's why I haven't caught a fish with 1 for a while!!! Haaa. We all get sucked in to the new and improved hardware, each and every year. Rappala's are so expensive now, starting at $12.99 for a small F6, Canadian Tire keeps them locked up in a jewelry case.

Fished there more than a few times in Sept and Oct. and 2 of my fishing buddies go there every year for a week at the end of Sept. with the wives. Like any other fishing trip some good fishing and some poor fishing. The go to was Shad Raps. When we found the fish trolling we would drift Lindy Rigs tipped with black leather imitation Leeches or black twister tails. 12 to 20 feet of H2O.

I have few Hot n Tot's in the treasure chest. I like them because of the metal lip. Easy to change depths just by simply bending the lip up or down. Never had 1 break.

Att Huzzaba and other shore fishin' guys
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Dunnville has been known to harbour a criminal element. If the authorities really want to enforce the law they don't have to go far from the dam to nab a few dealers of illicit drugs and stolen property to purchase said illicit drugs. -

Stopped and had lunch on the Grand River just North of the Dunnville dam. 2 guys fishing from the east shore close to the dam hauled 2 nice unidentified fish within the 25 mins. I was there. Could have been Rainbows.

Glad to hear G. Mech. I actually never use that ramp. If the wind is up from the south it is unprotected and boats can get damaged. I use Fishmasters up river a bit. 5 bucks and a huge parking lot. The ramp is steep so I can drive the boat right onto the trailer because the base is solid too. Don't go in to far, there is a drop off.

Anyone use trolling spoons for casting?
Old Ironmaker replied to huzzsaba's topic in General Discussion
Believe me I have tried. Some are so light they can go backwards when I tried to throw them out there into a light wind. No matter how much weight is added they just seem to act stupid going through the air. Often the heavy weight would pass the spoon in the air and make a mess of the line. Get out there and give it a try. Why do you want to reinvent the wheel Huzz? Cost? One reason fishin' ain't cheap. The orange J-13 was our lake O Rappala way back when. 12 guys on the Hamilton pier and 10 are throwing J-13's. And they casted like turd too into the wind. -
Oh it's allowed Leaf but by the time liability and Comp.insurance is paid and all the volunteers have been trained in the use of power tools, have JSP's developed, reviewed then the volunteers have them read and fully explained to them as well as the required WHIMIS classes it would be less cost to have the Township workers do the repairs after a committee is set up to review the sealed bids from sub contractors then and only then the capital has to be approved by Town Council unless it is close to an election then the matter will be held over until the new council may review the project. So we can expect the ramp to be down until 2024, maybe 2026. Or we can sneak in under the cover of a low Moon and then we can get er done well before last call at the hotel.

Marinas will sell lines and all fittings etc. with the manufacturers name on it. i.e. Merc, Yamaha, Johnson etc. I bought Mercury for my Mariner. Then it wouldn't start. Make sure the arrow is pointing towards the engine, yep I man enough to admit it. And all this time I thought I was perfect!

Fishing for various species on the Grand River (Video)
Old Ironmaker replied to popofish!'s topic in General Discussion
I liked it Popo. Keep them coming. You keep them under 3 minutes, perfect, not many will watch a 25 minute video of someone reeling in a fish with no audio other than unique music. It certainly shows the variety of species that can come out of that river. Everyone reading this please don't keep any to eat. That river can be a toilet when the sanitation systems in the bigger towns along it get stressed and often overflow into it. I have seen pics of toilet paper flowing down river. My favorite on the video is the fish that flies out of your hand at the 1 minute mark. Is that a Moon Eye? I have never even seen one. Looks similar to a Walleye in shape. -
That is one big question. I say it all depends on the water you are fishing. i.e. We used Wally Divers almost 90% of the time on The Bay of Quinte. Tried my best using them on Lake Nippising and couldn't catch a thing after hours trolling with them. I had a bet with my father in law and I lost. I have caught nice Pics in the Fall casting crankbaits to the shoreline on Quinte to in Fall. At Burleigh Falls we got them from shore using Black Fury's. If you didn't tip them with a worm they wouldn't take it and wouldn't touch a crankbait when we fished there . A buddy has a place on a small lake east of Pt Au Baril and every pic we have caught there went for certain worm harnesses no crankbaits, so far. I could go on and on for a few pages. To answer your question, yes I use crankbaits and many different ones depending on many factors. Different lakes, temps, weather and wind it all depends on what the Pics want to have for dinner that part of the day. I also have to say many fisher guys and gals call some hardware crankbaits and they really aren't.

What would one of those go for Brian? Could do a whole Pig or small Cow.

I apologize for the ramp being down from everyone here in Haldimand to those that comes from out of town to use our free ramp and take up every parking spot. I am going to talk to the Mayor and see if he can raise our taxes a bit, just a tiny bit so we can build another ramp for you out of towners. $3500 a year in property taxes for a 900 sqft cottage with zero municipal services including sewer and water, no public transportation (75 bucks for a cab from the lake to Caledonia, a 25 minute drive). I think we can all kick in a few more bucks a year to build you a new ramp. You are all welcomed. Johnny D/Selkirk On.

49, well that's a good start for a screen play. There's a story many would be interested In hearing Dave.a thing about being single and the life, not a single bit. Yes my card was a Chargex now Visa. Show a millennial one of those card swipers and I wouldn't believe they would know what it is BUT. Friday a refrigeration tech came here to look at the fridge that is leaking and guess what he had to take a credit card? Yep a card swiper, I swear.

Most times it can be a simple as a new fuel line from the tank to the engine. I hope that is the case with yours. I have seen guys come into the shop buddy has and the guy has torn apart the thing only to find the 20 buck fuel line is bad. One was bad coming out of the box from China or Viet Nam that he bought at Princess Auto, for cheap. Another you get what you pay for.

2019-2020 Hockey Thread
Old Ironmaker replied to DRIFTER_016's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
The time draws nearer. Let the bashing begin Boys. I listened to The Instigators radio program on WGR 550 out of Buffalo. I was floored to hear the Sabres have 5 exhibition games in 8 or 9 days. Did I hear that right? That's a lot of summer Hockey if I heard right. And I think 4 NFL exhibition games is too many. Tickets aren't any cheaper with the 2's taking 90% of the snaps. Rip off for the fans in the seats. -
Johnny , it is all over the place cause of the supplement depending on your income. I am lucky, my American wife of 20 years, yesterday was our anniversary, has never drawn a paycheque in Canada, so I do the income splitting thing to the MAX, get a bit of a supplement cause my income is lowered. Get someone to help with the taxes or a good program, lots of tax advantages with age, you'll be surprised how little you pay . I have a fairly good guy that does our taxes. He better be based on what he charges. We do the income spitting thing and I know that based on my gross income I should be eligible for the supplement that I applied for. I never though I would make it to 65. To think of it I still haven't. I once got very good advise from an old timer, having a good Accountant is more important than having a good Lawyer. A very successful businessman that once owned most of the real estate in downtown Hamilton once told us to be successful one should owe a million dollars when he dies not have a million dollars in the bank. I'm well on my way to being successful. My parents grew up during the Great Depression and WW2. If you didn't have the cash in your pocket you didn't buy it. The 1st and last time they got credit was for the home I grew up in. We are going through settling the estate as Dad passed this passed April. I was floored when we found out he was carrying around a card with 100K credit available on it, guess what the balance was, yep, zippo. There was 1 transaction on it from 12 years ago when he bought his last car for 35K. That was the very 1st new car off the lot they ever bought. I remember driving out into the sticks in Stoney Creek to pay the mortgage every week. (They were the grand parents of the Hartsburg brothers of NHL fame if anyone remembers them) I didn't get my 1st credit card until I got married at 24. When I got divorced from my former wife she had a stack 2" high. I have 2 and my wife has 2, I think. No Irishfield, you don't get a paycheque you hand out paycheques!

You guys kill me. All these fantastic recipes and no sharesies? When we move, sign is going on the lawn this week I hope, the 1st thing I am going to get is a small smoker so I can make candy too. It's just the 2 of us and I don't intend on smoking enough to sustain the winter months. Can't wait really especially seeing and reading what you guys can do with a smoker. Watch now, I bet we get a great deal on a Condo made of stona and no smoker allowed. You don't even need to know how to cook I'm told.

Baseball Game Etiquitte-- What would you do???
Old Ironmaker replied to npt1's topic in General Discussion
Hey I'm working here in my second language. The 1st is Hamiltonian. I bet if I called out " Hey Lou suppers ready!" Lew might come to the table too. ROTFLMAOABOAH. And bustin' out a hernia. -
I will be 65 on Thanksgiving Day, thank you for your best wishes etc. etc. please send cash gifts only, no cheques or canned goods. I asked a pal last year who is the same age as I "What do we have to do to apply for Old Age Security pension?" He tells me "Oh nothing, they will automatically send it." Ok, now it's Sept and I remember I will be 65 soon. So I borrow 10 bucks from my wife and put 8 bucks in the tank and buy a Timmy's on my way to the closest Service Canada office to ask Mr. T's representative. The young man behind the desk tells me I should have gotten notice the month after my 64th and fill it out, send it in and get paid each and every month thereafter or until the Feds run out of money. Oh great, I don't remember getting anything from the Feds other than an application for long term disability of which I don't qualify for because one must have paid into CPP for the last 2 years. Yea right, the 1st thing I do when I do a job is send more money to the Government. I tell all the yungins' I meet to do exactly that or they will not get anything they didn't pay into. I don't practice what I preach and I am disabled to say the least. Blah, blah poor me.. The young man at S.C. tells me he will print out the 8 page application, fill it out and bring it back to him. Then he says "Oh, I might mention you won't be getting any moula for the next 120 days after your application is approved but it is retroactive." Vunderbar. We are in a common law marriage. That's another form to fill out and it must be Notarized, no problem there, just 25 bananas here in the Village of Cayuga Ontario or a dozen cobs of corn. I believe most here are a long way from 65 but if you are I hope you take care of your business better than I take care of mine. I ask 10 pensioners how many Samolians does OAS pay and I get 10 different answers or from the guys with wives that have money have no idea. It's a massive $608.38. That should fill my soon to be gone 1/2 ton 4X4 6 times, with Rez gas. Johnny D. PS. Is anyone here hiring? I can paint with both hands but no ladders or bending over. By the way I called my pal whom is my former business partner that I met at Football practice the 1st day of Grade flippin' 9 and still can't get rid of him was the duffus that told me it is sent automatically. And I believed him, he has been Bee Essing my for the last, I need a calculator, 51 or so years and I believed him, again!!! I told him today on my way back from Service Canada " Automatic anything isn't a thing in Canada Bubba Boy". He is going to Service Canada tomorrow.

Paul I do know we have been getting cold nights, very cold here on the lakeshore. It was 11C on Thursday night. When I woke up the gas fireplace was on, it's set at 55F. Last week the soya field behind our mailbox was green, today it is yellow. When I see yellow beans it tells me to start winterizing, I do not like yellow bean leaves. You are right Sir. I do know it doesn't take much in temps to make some fish do what fish do but a few degrees cooler on the surface wouldn't effect fish 100 feet deep. A neighbour told me they went out for a leisurely boat ride last Sunday out of Nanticoke. They said the boats fishing looked like the 400 series highway here in Ontario. The trailer parking lot was jammed full. 15 or more acres maybe? I would love to know how long the lineup to get a ramp would be. Watching boat ramp follies can be more fun than fishing some days. Weekends around here you either wish you had a slip or are thankful you do have one. I haven't fished a weekend other than a small tourney in over 12 years.
