The best price and quality doors and sliders are Dans Doors in Kitchener, hands down. I was in the sunroom business and I couldn't touch there prices. I bought my custom 7' 8 door for $700.00 all others came in at over 1000. This is quality stuff, I can't get my guys up there for 2 doors, sorry, they don't work for free, I would. DO NOT BUY FROM HOME DEPOT OR LOWES. I never use caps to make a point I can't make it any stonger without writing a book. We were HD Installation Service Providers for a time and refused to use their products and gave up the contract because of their quality or lack of, brand name or not. I told the Canadian President to pound salt before I would install that stuff and put my name on the warranty. One reason Mike Holmes no longer is with them, ever wonder why, it was big money for \Mike.

Karma... it is a three way street correct?
Old Ironmaker replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure you have considered it but the \Canadian Cancer Society will drive to and from all the appointments for a one time charge of $100.00. I have friends that drive and those that unfortunately need the service. There aren't many that have those expenses in the budget or able to take the time off work. We were driving a good friend from Haldimand to London for chemo, 5 hour return plus expenses. Once he was comfortable with the whole shock to his system he chose to have him driven with the service. Prayers are with you. I am one of the lucky ones. -
Left hand walleye trolling reel w/ line out alarm?
Old Ironmaker replied to scugpg's topic in General Discussion
That Coldwater Okuma 350 sure is nice looking, I'm in the market for 2 linecounters, looks like something I could use for Big Cats as well as out here on Erie trolling. I don't find one on Bass Pro Canada, I find it on Tackle Direct for $159.99 usd, I don't like buying in the US. I always wondered why most if not all baitcasters came with the retrieve on the right side when most anglers are right handed? Righties usually always retrieve spinning outfits with the left hand. Fine with me I'm left handed. -

That's why we're here Bill, to entertain you. -
I am of the mindset that an email does not equal a telephone conversation. A telephone call that goes to voicemail doesn't equal a conversation. A telephone conversation doesn't count as a visit. I don't use my cell phone unless I need to dial 911 or star 16, it's turned on to check to see if a family member has arrived safely or I'm going to be late for something called a visit. When I needed to it was a connection to make money, it's a tool just as a painters brush or a carpenters saw to do business, no phone no money. I do not do on line banking, once in a while I stand in line so I can flirt with the teller. I don't facebook, Skype, twitter, twatter or whatever there is out there to further disconnect ourselves from the human race. For some it is a God send, those that don't, can't or won't engage in social outings. I understand that. But not for me. Someone asked the other day, why do you go on these chat forums that all you talk about is fishing? I said it's a huge kitchen table where you sit around with a coffee or whatever and shoot the bull with people that fish. That's it. Everyone is more than welcome to come to my place and do the same thing. If my cell phone isn't on sorry I don't have voice mail, if my landline goes to voicemail it doesn't mean I'm not home. If it's really important come to the home, I will answer the door or just come on in, the door's open. I still hand write letters to elderly relatives and have a bank book. Man I sound like my Great Grandfather that was afraid of a television and refused to talk on the telephone. Imagine what changes he saw, he was born in 1875 and I knew him.

Well said TA, very well said. We've all said something we wish we could take back, especially here sometimes, guilty as charged. Cliff is the man, if he was Italian he would be the "Don".

That's what she said! And yes I take the no need to buy comment back. As soon as I posted that I was asked to turn in my Outdoors Card.

377 km just to have a NEWFIE breakfast?
Old Ironmaker replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
PM returned Brian, good luck, the more you practice the luckier you get. I went on You Tube there is a video, in French though, -
Thanks Irish, yea it seems to be getting complicated. I think it is because finding a few rivets or small cracks can get complicated I believe. I just think Shloim might be putting the cart before the horse asking what to use to seal a leak. One thing to repair another thing to find them, all. My boat has hundreds of rivets. It might not even be a rivet, what about a small crack on the transom? What do the pros do to find the leak?

My travel rods are my regular 2 piece 6 to 6.5 footers. I made a light wt. tube with 3" PVC X 3,5 feet with a screw on fitting at one end plus a light wt. shoulder strap that can be folded up and secured so as not to get caught on luggage carousels. A few manufacturers decals and I look like a pro in the airport. Will hold one bait caster and 2 spinning rods. Nothing fancy for around 15 bucks and no compromise with my rods and no need to spend more money on more rods. Wrap the rods with one layer of bubble wrap.

I'm a bit disappointed you are willing to let the tradition die. I hate blood sausage but was forced into child slavery a long time ago and forced to make them. I can't stand the smell, texture, anything and will still make a few pounds for my Dad and others. -
Now that's an introduction. Gotta a get me a Go Pro one of these days. Nice little toys. You are going to get wrists like Pop Eye using the reel without palming it.

Asian Carp Invasion, Pffft...I just see an opportunity...
Old Ironmaker replied to adempsey's topic in General Discussion
It is a lot more serious than I thought. It's difficult these days to keep up with who and what will be the death of us. The loss of a fishery and an entire ecosystem takes a back seat to all that makes headlines every morning. I like the solution some have come forward with, eat them into extinction. -
Take a look at Danny Columby's site, nipissingmuskies.com and see what he has to say. This man knows his Musky. We hired him at the beginning of October, 2 nice Muskies in the boat in a few hours. Smartest thing I've done fishing this year.

Asian Carp Invasion, Pffft...I just see an opportunity...
Old Ironmaker replied to adempsey's topic in General Discussion
First off it is very unique and whomever did it is very talented as well. And it is better than 99% of all TV commercials out there, for 3 minutes at least. It is 3 minutes too long and all the bad acting, really bad acting has to go, all of it. Are those Asian Carp? Sure looks real but with what CGI can do today one never knows what's filmed and what's CGI. If it's CGI it's some of the best I've ever seen, if real Asian Carp we have a problem Houston. -
Steve I would be very interested to see what will happen if a boat is full of water when out of the water. I can't find anything on You Tube, I'm not a great googler. I have seen plenty that were left for salvage along the Peace River in SW Florida after Andrew in the fall of 92' that filled with water after beached. Nothing really happened with any that I saw other than a green toxic mess. What happens? Thanks

When you were shopping I suggested you leak test by putting in "some" water in the boat. It would have shown a major breach but may not have shown a few loose rivets because of the lack of hydrostatic pressure. I haven't seen many aluminium boats that are a few years old that don't take on some water. How much water are we talking about, a gallon, 3, 5, how much? I always have a gallon in the bilge that is below the auto bilge pump after being in the water all day on my 19 footer. If you have the warm dry place and time to do this off season take Wayne's advice, a gallon or so I wouldn't stress over, no pun intended. And put a good bilge pump in while you are at it. You never know when you will need it leaks or no leaks.

Paul's the best! He's has the voice for sure that will drive some people mad. I call it running out of air before the sentence is finished. He shaw is a pissah he is. The best scene is when he is taking out his brand new leased boat as capt. from harba on his first trip of the season and is heading left of the red buoy, band scrape boom he bottoms out then blames the crap electronics. Paulie, red right return green right go!

A fantastic trip you had, I'm sooo jealous. I wouldn't want to come across a few of the guys in your crew in a dark alley anytime soon. Tuff looking bunch I tell ya. The last fish on your first post wouldn't also be known as Monk Fish would it? Just had some poor mans lobster Sunday, 12 bucks a pound in Hamilton. It doesn't taste like any Lobster I ever had. Looks the same but it ends there. The fish is head and all tail.

Yea the mileage, that's what I noticed, 9 point anything is good on any 1/2 ton. I'm both impressed and depressed at the same time. As for the blud puddin' you can have all of my share, 100% of it. Mom an Dad are still with us but Mom can't cook anymore at the retirement residence or won't should I say, enjoy them now as much as possible. I sure miss those Italian Sunday feasts, we all do. I guess it's my turn now, I don't mind. I'm teaching any of the kids Mom and Noni's recipes now if they are interested. Brian if you don't make the sausages, learn now and pass it on some day. -
Oh yea Suzuki loves killing wildlife, great for the balance of nature. Look closely folks, it's a joke, close maybe, but 25 years younger and a lot less white hair. Fun read though.

A smoking question,not fish smoking. UPDATE NOV 05 14
Old Ironmaker replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
I never heard about Vapping until I read it here. We just yesterday were talking and I said to the guys, all retired, there's so much we don't learn about anymore because of being out of the loop, kids all grown up, grand kids all bus, And technically with whatever work you did and socially as the age range t work was from teen summer student to folks in their 60's. I'm not hip anymore, 5 years ago I knew who Deadmouse was at 55 years old, now I don't know 1 artist in the running for a music video award, I'm so uncool again. Until I saw the pic above have never even seen one, nothing like I thought, it's huge. I thought it would look like a tipped cigarillo or something. It looks like a breathalyser. I wouldn't use that in public, if I saw that used I would think it's a remote car starter for someone that has to blow for blood alcohol to unlock an auto's ignition. Question, if someone hasn't had a cigarette for 6 months but still "vapes" have they quit smoking? Keep up the good work Brian B and all those trying hard. Someone asked me how the quitting is going and it's going not too bad. I said once you have smoked you never quit, you just don't smoke. -
I think the trail camera is a fantastic idea for those that want the thrill of the hunt without the kill. I always wanted to hunt but my first few outings in the 70's resulted in near misses. Every year I hear the horror stories of accidental shootings and witnessed the aftermath of one yesterday. Nothing serious but it could have been a fatality just as easily. An I.Q. test should be part of the FAC and Hunters test. There are some very un intelligent people out there from drivers to hunters. Heck a IQ test for a drivers licence wouldn't be a bad idea.
