  1. After my Nono died when I was around 11 that was it for me for Christmas. And then once and a while Uncle Sammy would be missing and my Noni told us he was off to college for 3 to 5. It kind of got better in High School when I could be exposed to other families Christmas traditions. As an adult without kids I was bah humbug and if I had a rare Christmas off I would switch shifts with guys that did have young children. Around 9 PM Christmas Eve or day at around 1PM everyone would ask where you goin' you old Scroog? Off to put the furnaces ahead. Had the best lunches those shifts. Favorite music now, Pavarotti's "O Holy Night".
  2. OK, OK. I give. 59 is young to me now.
  3. Theres a few, demonstrating the new fangled rod " The Ugly Stick" you can't break it, watch boys just like on TV, SNAP!! They're howling, that don't happen on TV. Played around all winter tinkering around with an old office swivel chair I could mount on any tinny seat turning a 500 buck 12 footer into a fishing machine. Played it up all spring and bragged about it on and on the 7 plus hour trip to the camp. The first day out for Pic opening I have it mounted up front. First time I turn around to look at my pal who's driving the weld breaks I fly backwards and get jammed in the hull, can not move I'm stuck. Legs strait up and ass jammed in tight. Had to go to shore to get unjammed. He made me stay that way for far too long. I took heat all week, they all wanted to know when they are going to be mass produced and, and, and. Those were in front of friends so really not embarrassing just feeling stupid. This was embarrassing. Just this past September our first trip to Mashkinonje Lodge. Launch the boat and putt over to the cottages slip. Plug, who needs a stinkin' plug. I'm yelling to my wife who is chatting with Goldie and her little boy, help, help like a little girl, they come running over and I'm bailing like mad but the water is coming over the transom faster than I can bail. Goldie who is one smart cookie and my new hero runs and gets a submersible and tosses it in. So there we are, My wife, Goldie there little son of 6 or so and I crowded on the bow of the boat to keep the transom above water. She had called Reagan that was out fishing to come and help this idiot customer that hasn't been there for 15 minutes and makes an idiot of himself after I begged her not to as I'm embarrassed enough. Who's in the boat with Reagan who unnecessarily came to the rescue, Italo Labignon. I ask Italo, "it's never happened to you before I guess?" without looking up he replies,,,,,nope.
  4. This could be a serious threat to US security. There are some certifiably insane young people out there unfortunately.
  5. Quote of the week. edit: he reamed me back
  6. Oh man, he was actually my first favorite, with the tap out Bear hug. They are going to take my Regina Club membership card back, how did I ever forget him. Mi dispiace Bruno. Then there was Ivan "Polish Power" Putski.
  7. ????? Flew over my head. Winternet's in full swing. Come on ice.
  8. Noel, I actually will write down the lyrics so sing along to that tune, I think you may know it, Noel,,,Noel, Noel Noel, we ain't got no water cuz we aint got No Well.
  9. I never comment here but read it to keep up with hockey. I can't contribute as I really don't know the game well enough today. Yes I was born here. I actually feel bad for the kid, he will never live this gaff down. He hit all the points he learned at interview 101 class, I know the NFL teams go over it with rookies. I guess he didn't take the University route to get to the NHL. If he had of referred to Rugby instead he would have been good to go.
  10. Ah man I just a few weeks back pulled into the dealer to look at the exact truck, colour included. I have my like new 2011 Silverado with 50K. The same salesman that sold me mine new in 2011 didn't want to tell me what they would give me for my rig. He started off by saying your truck is fine John, only $19,000.00. I'm not getting a new one mine is great. I picked up a 15 HP kicker that is the exact same year as my 115 and looks like it came with the boat. And a new Okuma combo downrigger rod/reel. Of course a hundred bucks of lures. Those $$$ add up fast buying tackle and I don't like keeping count. edit: oops that's an entire fleet, sorry.
  11. I agree with you 100% I would go as far as calling some of the new rules stupid if that's what your saying. I am sort of arguing against myself but I can do that and see your point too. When is anyone on a field defenceless? I just watched the series " State of Play" another great sports program by renowned director Peter Burg. It focused on helemet to helmet hits. Check it out HBO. One linebacker interviewed said if the suits that have never put on a helmet will have them playing flag football soon. I was surprised to see the NFL VP responsible for fining players is former Pro Bowler Merton Hanks of the 49 ers. He has a huge crew of people with dozens of monitors reviewing each and every play from every game looking for " helmet to helmet" infractions. Penalty or no penalty. Then Merton Hanks is presented with video of what they think may be an "illegal hit". First fine $22,000.00 minimum, second 44K minimum. Then suspension and if habitual behavior Hanks said, a possible lifetime ban from the NFL!!!! Several players have adjusted and they site Troy Polumalu as their poster boy that no longer leads with the crown of the helmet as someone that has changed the way he plays. Helmet to helmet is bad and I agree it shouldn't happen but I see many hits to the shoulder and the guys helmet slide up to the other guys head, that's a non infraction that's often called. But unessecary blocking, come on man. When will it end? I bet There may be a day you can only tackle from the waist down like Rugby. I hope I'm not here to see that. Big brother is watching.
  12. That would be dude. A legal clean block can be a dirty hit. It's now a rule in the NFL, hitting a defenseless player, it was legal last season. So legal and dirty can be the same. Blindside is another term.
  13. We played on the same NFC team in Stoney Creek in 78'. He also tag teamed with his brother, also hearing impaired. Brian was a offensive tackle, to get off the snap count he would watch the foot of the guard beside him. One tough guy. Unless it was a different silent Brian that wrestled.
  14. Hope to see you there. I remember you saying we worked in the same dept. during a cutback. Man we are getting older, I left 15 years ago, let's see if I might recognize you Spiel.
  15. I wonder how the touch screen would be affected by direct sunlight? My Asus tablet isn't supposed to be left in direct sunlight for long.
  16. I owe a friend in Youngstown a visit I can swing by on the way home.
  17. Having that documentation makes a difference I agree Freshtrax, that will cover your butt.
  18. I'm not sure Brian, from what I remember he was a teacher in the states somewhere.
  19. I spent a while at the hospital yesterday with one of my dearest friends saying goodbye. I saw him a month ago when he called with bad news. 2 month ago he had a pain in his chest and now 70 pounds latter hasn't much time left. I was telling him about this exact thread. He cringes thinking about the time he wasted worrying about the future. He still has his humour, 2 young women came in to take him for his physio, he told them to get lost, he isn't planning on walking to the morgue.
  20. We were kids when we watched tapings at the old CHCH studio in Hamilton. Pompero Firpo, " oh yeaaaaa Lord Athol Layton" and Dominic Dinucci were favorites along with too many to list. Many worked at Stelco when I was starting there.
  21. I wouldn't be so sure about that Fresh.
  22. Mister G, it was the 30-30 program I saw last month that I remembered the info I typed.. A great show as well as E-60. Manitou, It can be a sucker shot when a wideout slams a safety coming across pursuing the ball carrier. Receivers must be careful when they decide to do that. Those DB's have more opportunities for payback, and they get do just that. When a receiver decides to take a shot like that they had better have their head on a swivel the rest of the game. It can be done more often but isn't, think about it. You will see a receiver blow up a DB more in the CFL because they play more zone and have a bigger field to line a guy up. It's a bit tougher for the DB;s to payback here because here the receiver's have more control of the pattern with all that motion. You will never see receivers go for a beer with the DB's or be invited to any defensive guys BBQ;s, ever. Lucky if they are speaking by seasons end.
  23. As PT Barnum said there's a sucker born everyday. You folks up that way have more faith in people than I sure do. What would happen if the guy had an accident and gotten injured or worse injured someone else? Or I may have missed the part they drove to the MOT and had the ownership changed over before driving away.
  24. Another reason I never got back into the market, boring. No control other than to buy and sell while risking my hard earned money to get a meager 5% to 6% return. I love control. Can't touch it, feel it, smell it, taste it, hug it, watch it grow big and strong more importantly make love and sleep in it. I like to be personal with my money, we've been through a lot together and don't want it to just disappear one night when I'm not looking. I know many get exited buying and selling but I never got the bug.
  25. Great backs granted but regardless of Smiths record he can't be ranked as one of a hand full of greatest. He couldn't block worth a lick as far as I'm concerned. Thomas can be ranked up there as one of the best as well and it can be argued one of the greatest all around backs to ever play. No one picked up the blitz any better as he did. Wide receivers don't count as football players. ( just kidding) it's really any position where he doesn't need to shower afterwards, kickers maybe? No kickers for sure don't play football they are on a football team. But with Rice I can make an exception. He did it all. Looked like he was jogging and was doing a sub 4.5 40. Plus he went across the middle whenever asked as well as Andre Reid did his entire career. Rice didn't need to pull the antics wideouts do now, he acted like he belonged in the end zone and like a gentleman, not many gentlemen receivers out there today but I have to say it has calmed down the last few years since a few idiots retired. Some players were sure fun to watch but won't go down in history as great. Cunningham was fun to watch for sure he was, he did things at the position that no one had ever done before and for some of the amazing athletic plays he made have ever done since. Does anyone remember a linebacker named Tim Roscovich? I watched him when he was on the field when Philly was in Buffalo one Sunday. Drank motor oil so he could run smooth. Went out on the field for a coin toss once in College, after the hand shakes he opened his mouth and a bird flew out. There should be a Hall of Nuts.
