I knew of guys that set a Hillbilly hot tub at a remote camp way north. They used it one year. Unless you have running cold water temp is impossible to control. Soaking in anything above 104F is dangerous especially for anyone with high blood pressure, I don't know anyone not taking the pill. A waste of wood too.

We once had a dealership that sold Spas, same as a Hot Tub but I could charge more money and has an underwater surround sound in them. Who listens to music underwater? People with too much money that think no one else they know has one. We had 3 on display and ran them during the day warm not hot. A month in I had them emptied, hydro was ridiculous. One lady came in after a month and wanted her money back. No one told her it took copious amounts of Hydro to run it 24 hours a day and she set it at 105F. Oh look! Mmmmm, par boiled babies! No prerequisite test to be a parent I guess. A Hillbilly hot tub is very labor intensive. And I agree no need to spend 4 grand. 50 gallon chemical drums cut in 1/2 and fabbed together work as well. The interiors are painted/treated so not to corrode. (Make sure it's rinsed well of the bone melting toxic chemicals first).

I had to tell you something so your athletic prowess didn't come into question. And come to think of it if indeed that was the root cause you Sir were the anchor man that day. Nice Jumbo's though eh Albert. I've been back there many times since and someone always gets at least 1 14 plus inch Perch, best day was 8 14" or over. We will keep the GPS location to ourselves.

A reminder that an inflatable if not worn doesn't count towards a PFD required for every passenger.
-
John you are right, not all PFD's will automatically keep your head upright. The large collar on some will keep your head upright. If you look at what the military guys and Coast Guard guys wear you will notice the larger collar on the back on most but not all. Albert, so you wear a PFD now. Good man.

Excellent reply porkpie, you know your stuff. Finding a good boat at great value this time of year is very difficult, I looked for a good year both private and I went to every Marine dealer within 250 miles. There was plenty of junk or not a boat for us. Look at Proctor Marine in Simcoe On. website and give them a call. There will be having their big open house and sale next week I believe. Many trade ins actually this time of year. Call and ask for Doug Hayington and tell them what you are looking for. If they get it in on a trade you will be their first call. They will be saving money marketing it. If they offer a engine warranty demand a leak warranty as well, 2 weeks will all you need because you will know as soon as you splash it. I did the exact thing when I bought a nice used Lund trade in they had in for 2 days and they did all it's service for the life of the boat. I told Doug I know you would never sell me a boat that leaked and if you are positive it won't just put it on paper. I also told Doug I trusted him enough I didn't need to splash it and that would save him at least $100.00 or more in salary as he didn't need to send someone to the lake with me to splash test it when that person could be making him money getting all the boats out of storage. It leaked like a sieve. Long story not Proctors fault. Needless to say they cut me a cheque that day and gave me a $200.00 credit for anything in stock at the store. And he found me a boat within a week. Go to iboats.com and go to the boating forum. There is a sticky at the top of the general boat discussion page. It is a check list of what to look for in a used boat. It will give you a great start for what to look for. On a used boat condition is everything. If it looks trashed on the outside there is a very good chance what you can't see will be as well. I do not enjoy buying As Is but many times it's a must. Buy a previously owned multi million dollar home and you are buying As Is, can't even sleep in it for a night. Do a 20 minute walk through and then plop down your lifes savings. Good luck James, there's something that right for you out there, don't rush anything. My saying is experience is a lifetime of mistakes, wisdom is not making them again.

M2B2 I remember when my good buddies older brother opened a Pizzeria when we were in Grade 12 he bought a Microwave. I think he paid over $1000.00 for it and that would be in 72'. That summer I bought my brand new TR6 for $3200.00. We threw everything that was in the fridge in it until he kicked us out. It burned up a week after he got it when a kid put a tinfoil plate in it. Imagine having to claim a Microwave on insurance. If I remember it became a very common arson tool in the Hamilton Mob bakery wars back then if the owner had one. A lunatic that worked for me wanted to know what would happen if you filled a Coke can with gasoline and nuked it on high in the Cast House lunchroom. No he didn't get fired, it was the 70's.

Anyone have luck with these Rapala lures for Pike/Musky?
Old Ironmaker replied to PUMP KNOWS's topic in General Discussion
If it says Rappala it will catch all manners of Esox species. Number 1 go to lure when in doubt always comes out of a box that says "Rappala". I bet those Subwalks will hammer Small Mouth. I really can't tell the difference between an old Shad Raps and the new Glidin Rap. Now I need to spend more money on tackle I just have to have and sure don't need, thanks Pump! I was looking at the new displays at our Canadian Tire store today, man the prices of Rappala's now, under lock and key like jewelry, no wonder. They all start at $12.99. -
Cooking over charcoal has been attributed to some Cancers. Much higher risk than NG or Propane. There are specific bags to be used with sous vie. Not Glad bags. That was 20 years ago. I don't get out much anymore though. The first 19 years of my life my Mother used all Aluminium pots and pans. Only Dad and 1 brother escaped having some form of Cancer.

Many boat rebuilders are going to pressure treated plywood. Sealing it with spar varnish or similar 100% especially where it will contact Aluminum. Even Marine grade will eventually rot if exposed to water continuosly, it just takes longer. I had some left over ice and snow roofing shield and we put that down wherever Al contact was. Buddy used 3/4" PT last year for his StarCraft rebuild as he had it on hand. It will outlive him if he keeps it dry.

I won't sell on Kijiji. Not only tire kickers I have seen Tweekers at a pals place basically scouting the place for nice things available after hours and it was so obvious he called them out on it. They couldn't afford the gas to get to his farm. If I had to sell something it wouldn't be at my home to any Tom, Dick and Harry. If a friend needs something I have they can have it. What's a few hundred bucks going to do for me. I donated a 12 foot inflatable to a member of a different Fishing Forum. A young guy that could use it more than I. I have gotten breaks when I was younger, so I pass it on. And we are all aware of the tragic story of Tim Bosma selling on Kijiji. Of course that can never happen again.

It is cooking polymer. Not your average Glad Bag Shag. The French have been doing this for decades. No leaching of chemicals into the food. Unlike folks heating food in Dollar Store plastic containers. That isn't healthy. I was guilty though but haven't been doing it any longer.

When one considers there is a 40% loss when you BBQ beef, traditionally cook it and even more when smoking one advantage of sous vide is zero loss of moisture. A unit will pay for itself. I had one a the Family restaurant but not one at home. It has me thinking. It's a good investment when you consider you are paying for food you won't get to eat. An inside round can taste and feel like you are eating sirloin.

Do some research and find out what the fair market price is for any item you are going to negotiate for. For a boat go to NADA.com and enter all the info and see they say the boat is worth. You need to know what all the accessories are on the boat. It can get easy to get a boat price up several thousands of dollars on a 10 year or older boat when you start adding up electronics added to the vessel. Price fenders, 4 PFD's, marine fire extinguisher, lines, 200 feet of rope and a new anchor, a flare gun, plus, plus and you could see a bill for 2 grand. If that's all included the same boat could very well be more $$. Spring is a sellers market for a boat. Fall not so much. In my years of negotiating deals there is no such thing as a low ball offer, maybe an offer below market value and that all depends whether the seller accepts is how motivated the seller is to get his or her cash or to be rid of the item or property. On a bigger deal I will invest time and money to get a feel for who is selling and why. On one deal I found out the seller had just been transferred to the west coast and had already bought property there with a quick closeing, ball was in my court and a "low ball" offer was quickly accepted.

You guys are a bunch of wild men. Isn't it a bit early yet for the Detroit River? I have heard good things about Kyle Moxon but that had to be a tough fish with the single digit temps Bruce. When we fished it I remember crystal clear water being key and warm spring rays on the face. The key was you guys had a good time. Is this son the Dad of that beautiful baby I met at the tackle swap? I don't know what I was thinking I should have bought many more jigs from you than I did for those prices. Maybe I'll take a ride one day and meet you close to your place.

They will change it the year after I turn 65. Unless you turn 65 in the winter and don't ice fish you still need to buy a licence for that time you are 64. I am thinking once you turn 65 you don't need to show the Outdoors Card just I.D. proving age. Am I correct guys? I was told by someone in the know they are going to crack down on using a Disabled Permit or proof of a disability to exempt oneself from getting a license.

Slow isn't the word for the game. In this new immediate instant info world we have, gotta move, and fast, I want it now, I really don't know what Baseball will look like in the future. Will the generation born today support a game like Baseball in 30 years? It may become more popular than ever before, cerebral, strategic, and non violent. Any thoughts? Thank goodness for Blue Jays in 30 I tell ya. At my time in life I don't want to sit in front of a box for 4 or more hours. Want to speed up the game? Back in the 60's we played a game where we had 2 pitchers and 2 batters up at the same time and used a Golf ball sometimes. That was a wild fast game, and dangerous. Our parents made us stop. Now that I will watch.

I have been doing this for years and never thought to pass it on. 10 cents a cup or less Cappuccino/Latte. Make a pot of Espresso, 4 demitasse cups is usually what a normal espresso pot makes, about 1 fluid cup. Put some low fat milk in a sauce pan and heat for a few minutes. Use an immersion blender to froth the milk, slide the blender side to side not up and down. Spoon it into large cup. 1/2 to 3/4 cup of milk will make a copious amount of froth. Pour coffee into cup. Done. Sprinkle with raw sugar and or cinnamon and chocolate flakes. If it costs more than 10 cents a cup I would be surprised. I never did the math. I do know a splash of Caroline's Irish Cream brings the cost up bit well worth the inexpence. Probably up to $1.10 now. You can always use regular coffee rather than Espresso.

Will have to wait until the morning with a few Cappuccinos. Can't wait. -
I have had a Nautalist my wife paid around 250 for 8 years now. Still charged and not a scratch or tear or wear. I bought another Nautalist a few years ago on sale for less than 100 bucks at Fishing World in Hamilton for whomever is on my boat and they wear it or shore fish. It doesn't look as robust a material as the original though, but for 100 bucks it's a no brainer. I wouldn't be without one. I don't know about a dissolving tablet, I would think hydrostatic means "auto inflate once wet"? Mine look like they have a C02 cartridge that inflates them, auto inflate would be safer I believe. My next one if there is a next one will be auto inflate. We are on Lake O or Erie 99% of the time. I wouldn't like to wear a regular PFD all day so that's why I got these. It drives me bonkers seeing my pals who couldn't swim across a 40 gallon barrel keep their 50 year old PFD's somewhere on their boat that wouldn't fit their grand kids, some old guys think they will live forever. You don't even realize it's on. I have found myself driving home and notice it's still on me. Great to hear you are getting 1, get 2. Now that I am thinking about it I should flog these and get 2 auto inflate models. A bad accident and it could save a life if you lose consciousness. I am wondering if they will automatically put you face up in the water? Floating face down isn't good.

Scored today. We went Bowling this afternoon in Dunnville and didn't think about what dinner would be so we stopped into Food Basics. It is rare I will buy meat there, I had a bad experience with one of their big 10 buck bags of chicken once. I peaked into the meat isle and came across some Veal cutlets. It is rare to get veal here. The price was 16 bucks a kilo. I grabbed a few packs to take a chance. It was some of the best most tender veal I have ever had in my life if not the best. Like Provimi tender. Had I known it was that good I wouldn't have made breaded cutlets, I would have made scallopini with a white wine, julienned red peppers and mushroom sauce. I have a job at the Marine tomorrow just outside of town and am going in and buying every package they have and ask, beg, cajole, threaten the butcher to tell me where they got it. They had some steaks as well, I'll grab them too. As I said for whatever reason veal isn't sold here in Haldimand often, even at Hansen's on Hwy 3, our local family butcher. He said he doesn't get asked for it enough to carry any. This stuff was primo. Food Basics, who da guessed.

NEW DRONE REGULATIONS....what a crock!
Old Ironmaker replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
A neighbour had some guests over last summer and flew a drone up and down the beach all day. Someone, I don't know exactly who, placed a 12 gauge into it dead centre. -
Have you ever worked for a company that: NF

HH you must be a foreman at Stelco. -
You will get through this Tom. Don't sell the boat. Take the wife out on a romantic cruise this summer.
