  1. The link brought me to trailer winch quick connects. Is that the product, how do I use them? Replaces battery connections between 2 batteries? I'm the guy at the plant that called my electricians to change the batteries in my flashlight. I have never messed with the stuff since the very first time I tried to wire a plug doing my very first reno and I got shot across the room from a 110, or was it 111? The very first and absolute last time for me and electricity. Both my Father and Father in Law couldn't stop laughing their butts off. Oh there was a second time. But I only put the boxes in and then was told I had to move them because code calls for an exact measurement above the floor and distance between them on all walls, I quit. Now I call "The Guy". Doing plumbing OK, water runs downhill and the worse that can happen is you get wet not fried.
  2. I nominate Big Cliff for Most Humble as well. Do you know how rare someone like you is Big Man? There aren't many out there like you. You will not only give someone the shirt off your back, you will give up your trousers as well. If they fit. I nominate Dave, Drifter_16 for Most Resourceful.
  3. How did I guess Cliff, Mike and you would know what I need. Now that's what I'm talking about, and for 20 bucks it's well within the budget!!
  4. ep, that would do it. It just simply isn't in the budget G. Mech simple as that. I pay $550.00 a year, taxes in. Next door they will charge me more than $1700.00 for a shore power slip. Zero amenities other than a Jonny on the Spot. That is if there was a slip open. They keep those slips for boats no less than 24 feet I believe. None of their other slips have shore power. I did have a slip there before I moved next door and it was more than double for the same set up where I am now 5 years ago. The closet marina to where I am is Port Dover and that is certainly out of my budget. The marina not in my budget in Dunnville doesn't have shore power either. I call where we are Chernobyl Marina, the view is the Steel Plant on 1 side and the Hydro plant on the other. It's a fishermans Marina not a boaters Yacht club like Dover. You know where I am.
  5. Somewhat a problem if the batteries have to be removed and replaced each and everytime to charge. The problem I have as there is no shore power at my slip. I don't even bother to use my bow electric now if I have to remove the 2/12 Volt batteries every time I use it. Mine have those long 2 plastic clamps with the threaded rods with lower hooks and 1/2" nuts and washer at the top of the rods. Taking them out is not such a big deal but putting them back in can be a huge pain in the rear. Especially the 2 X 12 volts where there is no space. There has to be a better mouse trap, there must be besides bungee cords that I use now. I need the batteries up front for ballast since I mounted a 15 HP kicker. My Star Craft rides bow high Any suggestions?
  6. Don't want to hi jack this thread so I won't. I started a thread about securing batteries.
  7. Something that doesn't exist. Blew out my knee yesterday so here I sit trying to take my mind off it on the lakeside deck. I can think of worse places to moan. (Me for Most Digressions.) Need categories and nominees. The award for Most Helpful, Big Cliff, the award should be named after him. Most threads Hi-Jacked, taken off the rails, I nominate myself and M2B2. No Thread I won't Comment On, M2B2 is my nominee. Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, Has to be Art! Best Aircraft, Irishfeild, does anyone else own one. Most Argumentative, Take your pick. What other categories? This is just for a laugh, there are no such awards, maybe not yet! Who knows.
  8. Ain't that the truth. If there is an award for most helpful on OFC Cliff wins it every year hands down. The award should be named after him. A big reason I am here. I even am polite here so I don't get banned.
  9. jimmer had a thread going for the same event before I started this one. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=84853&page=2
  10. I started a thread for the exact same event. These fines are more than many I read about on MNR Round Up site. Bigger fines are hunting related. And a majority of those guys charged are guides and outfitters swapping tags. Never have read about forfeit of vehicles and weapons. It's better than a slap on the wrist. To think fines are a deterrent is being naïve. If there is money to be made they will continue doing it. Cost of doing business. I watch Northwoods Law, a reality show about the guys and gals of Fish and Game Wardens in Maine. They are just as lenient as our MNR is, even more if that's possible. More warnings than fines.
  11. I really enjoyed the read. You write very well, I felt like I was right beside you. Now when I opened the video and saw it was around 25 minutes long I passed. Take it for whatever that means. I did watch he Pooper video for a minute. I like to read rather than watch a fish being reeled in. % lakes in 5 days, Wowza. Since buying on the waterfront I have only fished 5 lakes in the last 21 years. I need to get out more. Your quads must be the size of Oak tree trunks now with all that flipping. I fished many black water lakes way back, had good luck, I liked black water and black Sambuca.
  12. Man oh man Bigcreek, someone had your back. Rented a cement mixer and needed a 1 3/4" ball, mine is 2". The guy there swapped out the sleeve and put a threaded bolt and nut on instead of a proper codder pin/ I asked him if that was OK, do it all the time he tells me. Sure enough get home and the nut is gone and the bolt is working itself out. Another few K's and it wouldn't have been pretty, actually could have injured someone or worse. Returned it and pointed out the hazard to the guy, he never blinked an eye, including the Manager. I should have known better. If something bad did happen it would be me responsible as the operator, at least most of it. Same guy somewhere had my back that day.
  13. Oooops, can you delete above post Art please?
  14. Same thing happened to a pals 92 Merc. Told it was the tilt/trim motor and was ready to pull the motor off the transom. One of the old timers (older than 63) came by and long story short turned out it was only the solenoid.
  15. Wowza Mike Wowza. You need a new tape measure, yours has stretched. That's no 30, 39 maybe, maybe even more. It looks as big as the 49 I caught (insert winky yellow thing here) I saw a 29" Pic last week, that fish is 10" longer, at least. I don't Musky fish but from watching all the shows and talking to those that do go for them Crocs no one has ever told me nor have I ever seen one hit a figure 8, ever. edit: tried the 8 thing on a Smallie follower once and it actually worked. That day they were jumping in the boat. I have a witness.
  16. That just sucks Rattletrap. Been there done that. I now put the charger to the starting battery the day before, just in case. Check that none of my supposed friends loosened the nuts on the battery posts to be funny, just in case. Check all the trailer lights the day before even though I just towed last week, just in case. Put all the keys in the glove box of the truck, just in case. Try all the electronics the day before, just in case. Make sure it has full tanks the day before, yep just in case. Put my fishing licence in the glove box, just in case. The list goes on quite a bit. Read my by-line at the bottom of this page. Oh, the plug is in before the boat leaves this shack. Just in case. I have had a portable battery booster fully charged in the boat for 5 years now. I bought a 1000 AMP new one on sale that fits in a jacket pocket and sold my humongous old one for almost what I paid to the guy who's battery was dead at the ramp. I have used it 3 times this year, for a neighbours FORD and twice at the launch for guys with dead batteries. Best 100 bucks I spent in a long time. I find Marine batteries don't hold a charge like my automotives do. Probably have a small drain, you most likely do too. Then with all this rain I know the bilge pump is doing what it is supposed to because I left the plug in a few times. I know it is feeekin frustrating, but you did get a family day in and it didn't snow.
  17. Dave fro Whitehorse just mounted 2 of these big transducers. I didn't read how he did it but whatever he does it is guaranteed it is the best method. You mention using 6 stainless bolts to secure the Trex board, I like the Trex idea over the $$$ store cutting board stuff. If you mean to say you are going to bolt it completely through the transom to the interior side I may not normally agree. But looking at how extremely large and expensive they are I just might as long it isn't close to where the bottom of the transom meets the hull. Whatever method you do go with I highly recommend 3M 4200 or 3M 5200 silicone for all Marine silicone adhesive applications. They use the stuff on Space Capsules splashed into the Ocean. If you never want to remove the screws go with the 5200, otherwise the 4200 will be the silicone/adhesive you want. Better adhesion than some brands of 2 part epoxy. Like you said before setting it for the final time use a sacrificial piece of Trex, once you have the thing where you want it after making some runs and tests on the water then mount a new board and install for the final time. I don't think the rivets will interfere, you can always back fill the gap with a bead of 3M 4200. I see a rooster tail in your future if you don't get it just right. 2 pounds, man that is one big, heavy transducer. Take into consideration where it sits when loading/unloading on the trailer. Not as critical as a thru the hull design. I am thinking there is a lot of juice running through the cable. I might take the time to insulate the cable if running near any other electrical/electronic cables and they usually are.
  18. Certainly not enough in fines in my opinion. At least they seem to be charging more criminals as of late. MNR watch is a good site. I again suggest you join if you haven't already to get the newsletters. Never any spam mail from this site. http://mnrwatch.com/eight-gta-residents-fined-almost-5000-for-fishing-offences-in-kawartha-lakes/ Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources News Round Up. 19. Like Albert says "hey look, a can of worms, let's open it."
  20. That park brings back memories from my 20's. The activities then are not family oriented, making a family maybe. Have fun. it is beautiful there, it was 40 years ago.
  21. That would qualify you as a Navy in many a land locked country. I love it. My 2 buddies have you beat Art, they just bought their 23rd boat for their Armada, not a typo, 23 boats. Don't ask. Actually many even float and a few run.
  22. Only listened to a bit of it. Wow ain't the word. The 2 guys calm demeanour impressed me. Nothing worse than a Zealot no matter what the subject from religious to being a veterinarian, errr I mean vegetarian. I don't think I would have handled it as well. I only wish someone tries the same to me here at home, I wish. Where's a Cop when you need one? Especially a Cop that hunts and fishes. Here buddy read this on the way to being charged for interference and being a Goof. That poor kid, imagine being the son of that idiot. Went back to try and listen to the entire thing, still couldn't finish. He must belong to same religious sect as my brother in law. His science tells him the earth is 3000 years old and the entire Adam and Eve story debunks the big bang nonsense. There is no way to reason with people of the same ilk. I tried for 23 years. For the last 2 years I just politely say hello and try and find somewhere else to sit or better yet don't go.
  23. If you had of said 10 grand many suggestions would have been useless.
