  1. I am 1/2 blind on a good day with my reading glasses on, I can still tell the colour of a pretty tall blonds eyes at 100 paces though. My knots stink, I will try again. Thanks all.
  2. Don't want to hi jack but while on the subject of knots what is recommended for Flouro to Lead Core please. I have lost too much tackle. I have been using coated micro chain swivels the last 2 years and no lost tackle. I'm thinking they can't be great for the guides eyes or line when on the spool .
  3. Is that the boat Dad finally bought Andrew? Nice rig.
  4. I think it was Shakespeare that said "all the best made plans of mice or men shall never be" or something. Went up to Paisley yesterday afternoon regardless of winds and came back early this AM due to a personal matter with my fishing partner that came along. Next time I might even get to Colpoy Bay. Whataya gonna do?
  5. OK. I would never use any amount of Blast Furnace slag in a sub base for concrete or anything, Steelmaking slag yes, it has much more Iron in it, BF Slag should have zero Fe. Some out here will get loads from the plant for a driveway etc. and after a few years it's just sand you are traipsing into your vehicle and homes . It eventually will break down over time until it becomes sand which it basically is.
  6. I went to a hunt and fish camp for years downstream of Westmeath back in the 80's and early 90's until I bought here on Erie. 2 of the guys loved it so much they bought homes there when they retired. We never got into Largemouth even though there are several back bays that look like Largie Heaven. I think I caught maybe 6 in all those years. One good looking Largemouth area is Bellow's Bay and further down stream is School House Bay (probably a local name). The area is known for Smallmouth but not Largemouth. Many rock shoals and points close to shore hold Smallies, Walleye and Pike. We fished for Pickerel mostly and Pike in Bellow's Bay. In as shallow as 2 feet of water in the creek heading into the bay with a floating Black and silver Rappala. A good topo map is your friend for that area. We always carried a spare prop and needed it more than once to get from one lake to the next on the river running the rapids. Dead heads can pop up at anytime, but you know that being on the river. Don't forget your Quebec fishing license. I miss that area, pristine nature and we might see 1 other boat all week other than Bass opener. Some gorgeous remote white sand beaches to have a shore lunch or just chill on just next to Bellow's. Have fun, stay safe and enjoy.
  7. M2B2, thought maybe you joined a Punk Hip Hop band with that coif. Don't complain, at least you have hair, I still have most of my feathers. If these winds don't lay down soon no one around here will be going out this Saturday if they have a brain that works. Saw a guy in a good sized Bass boat head west into the 2 meter waves yesterday. That boat and the 3 guys were taking a pounding zipping across the white caps, then he would slow down and bob up and down like on a bungee cord. Not what I call fun anymore.
  8. Aren't you finished that "shack" yet? Time to get those invisible workers that don't exist cracking. Isn't the roofing the first thing you do before walls and windows? The top of the world seems upside down sometimes. I watch all those Arctic shows where everyone starts getting ready for winter when the first freeze and snow is hitting in 24 hours or they starve or freeze to death. My favorite guy is the guy in Shangri-La AK. or something and refuses to use any power tools. But the film editor didn't catch the frame where his chain saw is in view. Yea right "I know my dear wife it's a reality show." I've had to say that more than a few times when I'm tossing my 80's era sponge brick at the TV.
  9. Forgid aboud it. Priceless.
  10. I knew that have to spawn somewhere. Shallow or deep. Not really concerned as much as interested, thanks G. I know we will have to start deeper than normal next week. It was 2 years ago late one night I'm here on the PC on a dead calm night and I hear them splashing close to shore. I realized it was after mid night of the opener and I put on a buzz bait and go down to the beach because I couldn't take it anymore. 3rd cast I get an almost black female that turns out to be the biggest of the year. My favorite Bass other than my first and last. Rick, that is a beauty of a Bronze Back, no matter from where.
  11. I'm sorry I still don't get what you are talking about. CH312 and G. Mech we called that A and B mix "aggregate mix". The aggregate used primarily in the concrete for the Sky Dome was pelletized Blast Furnace Slag from Stelco E Blast Furnace supplied by National Slag. Cinder blocks back over 100 years were made with a mix of BF slag and concrete.cast from the "cinder notch". Thus the light weight and strength of a "cinder" block. If the Sky Dome cracks and heaves you can blame me.
  12. This is the 1st year in the 21 years we have owned here where we can watch the Smallies, Carp and Gar Pike spawn that we have seen exactly zero fish. The water is the highest I have seen and I can't see how the Bass can keep the fry safe when waves are crashing on the rocks where they make their beds. I can't see how the males could even stay on the beds with the wave action. I could always tell you if they were off the beds by opener, not this year. It will be interesting next Saturday. I saw a few guys launching this AM all ready to go Bass fishing and I had to be the party pooper telling them there are 4 Saturdays in June this year.
  13. I as well can't understand this 6" centre and 10" curb to help with drainage. Drainage is from below the slab, a slope stops pooling or going to the homes foundation wall but not much to stop ice from heaving below. Spalling maybe but not lifting. ch312, what do you mean by A gravel and B gravel? We always referred to type of stone for ASTM strength, crusher run size and screened or not.
  14. We went to Lynn Lake Man. some 30 years ago and used 2 different lures and that's it, a monster William's Wobbler, maybe 8", it had a small little piece of red plastic at the end and was hammered metal finish. Also a huge around 6" white Tube Jig. Trolled the spoon at all different depths and jigged the spoon and tube from bottom to top of the water column. Used the old small black and white portable Eagle Ultra to find clouds of baitfish and dropped the lures into the schools. I was in shape then and my arms were ready to fall off at the end of each day hauling in those snot rockets. Averaged 25 pounds, actually considered small. I loved the Grayling fishing best.
  15. What a priceless Fathers Day gift.
  16. I'm not one to carry spare plugs unless I am away for a week or so and remote. No way I am about to tread water to change a plug. I can hardly get to the bottom plug on land. But I do carry some tools, a sharp knife, a spare fuel filter, electrical ties and of course duct tape. If anything it impresses other fisherman when they see my tools especially the duct tape. Older marine 2 stroke systems, I have zero experience with 4 stroke, are pretty simple. I bet 50% of on water breakdowns are simply loose wires and or fuel lines even I can give a quick fix. All it takes to run is spark, fuel/oil and air.
  17. Thank you Lost.
  18. I ran my 15 HP Mariner kicker for 4 hours without oil added to the gas. Long story my responsibility. To make it worse the battery died and I came in wide open throttle on it for 5 klics at least. Finally the plug completely fried a few hundred feet from my slip. Only damage was the plug. Says a lot for a Mariner I'd say. So we all have had bad stuff happen. If you haven't had something go bad boating, yet either a) you haven't been boating for long or see A.
  19. I really like this show and a few similar, even Naked and Afraid although they don't have to do the naked part, silly. Nothing like looking at filthy naked butt covered in a rash and bites to get the juices flowing, eh? Another is Dual Survivor. If I get lost I want to get lost with the young Special Ops Army Ranger guy or a Navy Seal. The problem with TV now is there are so many different networks and specialty channels and the same show may be on more than a few I can never remember when and where. I don't think I'll find it in the Bible, that's the only genesis or exodus I'm familiar with. When and where is it on?
  20. Oh I feel for you Sterling. Plan a big trip way up there and have mechanical problems. The shaft is bent I would bet. I would never run a motor on the ear muffs for 20 minutes. Running at low RPM on dry land and running under load is a world of difference. Revving over idle speed on muffs is also bad or putting the engine in gear for more than a few seconds is discouraged as well.
  21. Anything from rotten chicken liver to shrimp rings that can be eaten for dinner if they don't catch a fish. I've tried the marinated cut bait of shad, Herring, Solomon Gundy pickled herring worked once. Oily Mackerel too. My favorite are uncooked shrimp with the heads still on. Then the frozen pre cooked shrimp. I find cats more active at night and over cast days. It is about the end of their most active feeding season. Best is when the buds start coming out on trees I find. Have fun and bring something that can reel in a 25 pounder as well as a small guy. Simplest fishing you can get. Lots of weight, enough to get to the bottom and not drift away in the current, a slip barrel sinker is best for me and a circle hook with a leader tied to a ball barrel swivel below the weight. Loosen the drag or free wheel until you see the line spool out, never set the hook using a circle hook. Just let the line tighten or you will pull the hook.
  22. Dave I say that every time I leave my Air Miles card in the truck. It will happen one day, then criminals will start taking people arms for credit info and access to $$$$.
  23. Nothing like a nice jig with the hook as straight as a dye. You and I agree M2? Write the time and date down, it's a milestone in history.
  24. I asked a buddy at his 65th BDay get together yesterday if he knew if was dying what would he change on his bucket list. "Oh yea, live another 20 years". Guy goes to his Docs after a bunch of tests and asks " Will I have enough time to finish my bucket list Doc, how long do I have?". Doc says "5". "5 what, things on my list, 5 what? he asks. Doc says "5....4....3"
  25. I never can remember exactly what is on 90% of my reels other than the big line counters for trolling.
