It's not going to be easy to get down that deep without the right stuff. Go Bass fishing. -
Going to try Lake Ontario by Grimsby
Old Ironmaker replied to lovetofish's topic in General Discussion
Off course not. Do you have downriggers? Or Dipsy Divers or Jet Divers. I still use snap weights here on Erie. Just get down to the fish. They were about 40 feet deep he thinks. He was 1st mate. -

It must be a 2pile show crossing the border Doug. Yes Joey is the first member of the Hall of Fame. We need a special award for Wormdunker too. I miss them both. Those long phone calls and talks on the boat and on the deck with Brian I really miss. He was a "Far away talker". When he spoke he sounded like he was 50' away and he's 5 feet away in the boat. Soft yelling may be a way to describe it. I told him quit yelling, he yelled back "I'm not yelling" and he really wasn't. After all that time we shot the Bull I didn't know he ran his own D.J. service for years. Maybe that explains the soft yelling. I have not met many people that could keep up with him slamming back Beer I tell ya'. I don't know where he put it all and I never saw him blitzed. I put out a beer for him and I, go back in the cottage to get something and he's done. After a while I learned to give him 2 at a time. I once said "Bri you can have all the beer you want here bud but 1 more and you have to sleep here". "With Ticha?" he asks. I said "no you can't sleep with her but you can scrub her back in the shower, I'll get you a step ladder." We had a laugh. He was a funny guy. I miss the duffus. -
Welcome aboard Andrew. I hope you enjoy your journey here. A lot of orb breaking here if you know what I mean. Now as far as Bass having a lower I.Q. than other fish some Bassassins may not agree with you.

Any lonely center consoles collecting dust need a home?
Old Ironmaker replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
We bend our councils for restoring centre council boats with aluminum checker plate and clear coat or paint them and then clear coat them, they shine. Give me a size and I'll give you a price. With or without plexiglas wind screen. Change those cables, now. You are going to be on the water and suddenly you can't steer, ask me how I know. -
I agree. Now that I said that I have caught big Walleye in the lake deep and they are very pale like a lower Grand fish. Fish have a tendency to swim and without proper ID it could be from the river out in the lake and vise versa. Now I am totally confused. I need to sleep. I saw a few guys at the old Riverside Marina by the bridge that netted and zapped fish in April for the ministry in the lower stretch of the Grand to take them upstream of the dam and they were all 8 to 10 pounds. I couldn't believe they weren't the migrating fish from the lake. Those migrating fish are in the Detroit River in April.

Going to try Lake Ontario by Grimsby

LTF. I hear they are still getting fish close in off Port Dalhousie using Leadcore and planner boards with all the usual tackle. My brother got 3 nice Coho with the tried and true orange J-9 Rappala and a blue/chrome Little Cleo a few weeks ago. His buddy landed a good size laker on a Greasy Chicken spoon. Plenty of guys still fishing the pier there. Not Grimsby but close. They fished the edge of the mud line that was out a ways. No doubt with all the rain then, and still now I would presume. -
Young sometimes equates to smart. Conserving energy to get that big one in is smart. Nice haul Gov. Those 13" Perch can put up a fight and fool the best. When I see green I think "Oh my a nice eater Pik." Then when I see she's a Perch, winner, winner Perch dinner.

performance enhancement (maxing out hp)
Old Ironmaker replied to sauce's topic in General Discussion
Whale tail may help get on plane faster. Why the aversion to one? Prop match is important but won't get you 60% more power on a 25HP. Only a 40 will do that. -

There are plenty out there. When I get back on my feet I'll look around at my little buddy's building for one. -
He wins either way. You are a good Uncle. It was my uncle that took me and my cousin fishing for the first time when I was around 7, he taught us to embellish that day too!! I will never forget that day, or him. The website still shows last years, August 20th 2016. If anyone knows it would be HTHM, Albert. Come in please Albert, come in, over.

Post this on iboats.com. They know there stuff, we do too but they are some super guys there and it's 100% boating on the general boat forum. I have come to learn that the difference from a 9.9 and a 15 horse is simply a different carburetor. Same goes for a 4 stroke 250 horse Merc to a 300 HP Merc, fuel delivery is maxed on the same engine. There are kits to upgrade HP but you need a 40. I strongly believe you won't see any difference with a 5 HP upgrade. If you want maximum power and speed go with the maximum HP rating for the boat. -
Not an old thread, a really old thread, why not? First off my kid brother once co-owned a family cottage with his 5 families of in-laws on the west side of Chesley Lake. I can't volunteer their ramp. I have not been for at least 10 years. Note, not a great idea co-owning anything with in-laws, can suddenly become ex in-laws. At one time there was a ramp at the Mennonite Camp at the end of the lake. Must be the same camp you found. Other than that camp I know of no other place to put in. Yes it is a busy place on week ends. I wouldn't fish a week end. edit: Chesley back then at least had perfect 2.5 lb. Walleye for a fry up. Never went for Bass. Some nice size Pike. Night fishing produced the best for me. Simple minnow and slip bobber, nice and quiet as opposed to the cottage full of Hooligans back then. My #1 first mate who happens to be a fishing Guru lives in Paisley. Has for 3 years now. If there are places to fish he would know. Unfortunately he isn't on-line. Imagine that, 2017 and not on line. His family can't believe anyone can survive without being plugged in today. They bought him a lap top and 12 months of service, it lasted until the service ended.

Thinking of buying a fishing lodge....need help!
Old Ironmaker replied to birddogman99's topic in General Discussion
[quote name="akaShag" post The best way to make a small fortune out of the lodge business is to start with a large fortune. That is a keeper Doug. Actually better than good. May I steal it? Consider it stolen. The bubble hasn't burst yet for cottages where we are Ryan, at least not yet. Same with rural properties as well as in the small towns and villages. Empty nesters from GTHNA have finally discovered the value in Haldimand. Especially since the drug problem in Dunnville has been cleaned up and a fishing Mecca virtually undiscovered by many. A place that was under 225K 2 years ago in Dunnville is going for 400K now. And these places are selling in a week at most. If a property has been on the market for 2 weeks it is over valued. I do wholeheartedly agree that the bubble is just about ready to pop, it has to. It has become ridiculous. The link brings us to a good blog. More fact than opinion, that I like, that is unless the numbers were pulled from thin air. Knowing house prices in T.O. were getting out of hand is one thing, seeing the numbers is mind blowing. Thanks Ryan, Johnny D -

Geoff, that can't be you. Too old. Maybe not, saw Tony Hawk on TV, he's no spring chicken today. Am I too old to know who Tony Hawk is? I do know who is in the picture on the wall though and the artist. Does anyone recognize it? -

Back at you Shag, my Nomination for Best Beard is Big Ugly. Ha got ya' Can't nominate yourself Shag. But nominated myself for Most Digression. My game my rules. My computer may not have enough free space/memory to list all those that can be nominated for Most Helpful on OFC. I am so happy that the happy pills have kicked in, spent the better part of the night at a hospital in Hamilton waiting for an Orthopedic Doc. to drain my knee. Wowza that was fun!!! Digress much Johnny D? -
Get a slip with shore power, if it's in the budget. If I had a trailer and a boat here on Eire I would be at North Erie Marina. Some boats are parked in your slip almost next to your trailer. I love that Marina. Valet service to and from the massive parking lot for putting in. Some of the marinas west of Long Point the trucks and trailers are parked on Lakeshore a klik away from the ramp.

A better way to secure 12V Batteries please.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Got ya G. Yes all the slips for 20 and under have no power the last time I looked. The first year I got an extra heavy duty extension cord and tapped into a old friends plug. I was asked not to do it by the then owner. Hoover sold a few years back. I was told it is in the plan to get power to some smaller slips. Hoovers has improved a lot compared to before. Except the most important part, the ramps and docks at the ramps. I see they actually installed 1 single cleat, 1 cleat. And the food and service at the remodeled restaurant sucked 2 weeks ago. I don't like to criticise anyone's business without explanation. Just a few things, 20 minutes to get drinks, no salt, pepper catsup on the table, by the time that all came I ate what I could. A Philly Cheesesteak does not come on a 4" burger bun with a 1/2 slice of some kind of white cheese slice and burnt red peppers and burnt onions, 1/2 a slice of cheese!!!!!! Ticha's chicken club was burnt on the outside and frozen in the middle. She didn't touch it and the waitress never asked why. People I know and trust raved about the food. Consistency is the toughest part of running a restaurant. Oh and the 3rd drink that never came was on the bill. Many there have tried the Solar panel route. A waste of time and money for those little panels to charge a 12 volt. On the other thread about charging 12V batteries the OP said he can only get them to 75%. Maye he missed a decimal point.. -

Brian I hope you didn't take it as I think it's too long. For some it may not be long enough. I did watch it latter when I had more time, but skimmed through it. I do the same for most all videos and photos. I'm not sure what you mean about never taking advice. -
Around here they call them Gambrel cages. Unlike my neighbour make sure the rocks are larger than the cage openings. He used small rocks aka, stone.
