ALL grades of our gas contain ethanol....as least all our pumps as Drifter has pointed out bear the ethanol stickers.....well at least here in NYS...mid west states had ethanol way before we did.

And AGAIN another great Farm Report....... I do the same here.....I launch right next to the Seneca Res and fill up on the way home.....my boat is ALWAYS filled after fishing...that way I ready to when the bite is on.....we save anywhere from 20 - 50 cents per gallon at the res.....the higher gas goes the lower the savings....3 years ago in the fall of the year I was saving 80 cents per gallon....hasn't come close to that since.....now it's ranges right around the 20 cents per gallon savings...better then nothing though.

Don't they change over in the summer months up there........ I know here we change over to a winter blend and you can see your gas mileage drop on your truck/cars..... Getting back to the OP question.....I have a 1985 50hp VRO Johnson outboard....and I have to say I have used both...87 octane and 91/93 octane.....the higher end octane does burn much cleaner and the engine does idle better with it, especially if your trolling a lot....when I fished a LOT of walleye tournaments on Lake Erie we were trolling all day long.....so back then I only used high test gasoline....but now I try not to do any trolling at all if I can avoid it.....so I use mostly 87 octane....but if I do notice sputters or rough idling I'll run a tank or two of high test.....check the plugs and clean or change them out for new ones. These outboards are much better then the old days when they would give you trouble if you looked crossed eyed at them....just reasonable care and they seem to last forever.....mines 27 years old and has been out 5 times so far this year and she's running like the day I picked her up from the dealer.....here's hoping the rest of the fishing season goes the same way. BTW......running high test is must cheaper in the long run then adding all those gasoline additives that most manufactures frown on. Bob

Old Timers know that Oil/Gear Lube don't get any better because it's in a fancy bottle marked Mercury on it.....
-
OUCH.....take it back........gear lube can be had for about $3.99 here....
-
I have used their SuperTech 2 cycle oil for a long time....I'm convinced it's made by Lubermatic....good stuff for a great price.....is the gear oil the correct weight for your outboard....if so you wouldn't have a problem with it.....I have used automotive gear oil in my outboard for many years as it's the same stuff in a different bottle for a lot less money.
-
Get the recommended oil and lube gear but it doesn't necessary have to say Yamaha on the bottle....after all they don't produce the oil/lube but just market it for increased profits.

Do you guys have a limit on your side of the river.....we are limited to only 8 qts of smelt. Bob

For those who fish Lake Erie here is some interesting info..... http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/other/outdoors/article811862.ece

Wow......a 2006 Ford 150 that's not broken down....you're already ahead of the game.... You got a lot of good advice already....pushing the envelope a little while towing a short distance is one thing....but you're just plain busting out of it with this idea... Hopefully you'll find a smaller trailer and it will fit for you. Bob

Back in the late 70's and early 80's it was just a small concrete launch on the east side with a almost all stone launch on the south side while the parking lot was all rocks and stone....no docks anywhere....but I was OK with that as the price was right (FREE) and it kept out most of the boaters from using it... My bother in-law still goes there once in a while....if I remember correctly he said it has a gate or something that you must pre-pay to use the launch or you could get a ticket....but if it's only $5, then that's a steal as we are paying $7 - $9 per launch here....and believe me...that bothers the heck out of me...those launches should be FREE...

I learned a LONG time ago to watch what congress does and do the same....they NEVER screw themselves.... -
My turn to rant, taxable benefit issue

Your getting screwed 7 ways to Sunday....not only are you paying a reimbursement income tax but that EXPENSIVE gasoline has already been taxed to the max....so you are paying twice on gas your using for your employer.... He's what to do.....write your representive and ask him how he handles his reimbursements while he's representing you.... Remember....for every dollar you send to the government, they waist about $1.31 so that means they have to raise taxes again to make up for the loss... -
I have been chasing this fix on my outboard for about 7 years now....tried everything.....parts are almost impossible to get because the unit is 27 years old.... mine is pretty much like yours....I can launch and retrieve the boat without problem....I can power up while under power and it will hold for about 10 minutes or so....then I just power up again....I raised the trim rest so the motor doesn't go all the way down under power...as if I didn't have power trim/tilt....I'm done chasing a fix and wasting money on this.....everyone could fix it but never does....if this is the only problem I have with a 27 year old outboard motor that has seen LOTS of trolling and high speed cruising, well then I'm happy.....If you keep chasing the fix I hope you find it. BTW right near my fire hall there is a unit on a boat that hasn't moved in about 5 years...it teases me on every fire call I make....I sometimes wonder if I should make a offer on that boat and remove the power trim/tilt unit and then resell the rig without one....but then it's got to be a OLD unit just like mine as Johnson changed the design a couple years later.

Gotcha......was planning for this weekend but it don't look good weather wise.....I usually launch right across from you off the Catt....Sturgeon Point is close right now from what I hear (dredging).... When I was younger I use to launch a couple time a week at Crystal Beach and fish the sail boats for smallies.....I heard they charge at that launch now.....
-
Good for you Cliff.......you're only as old as you feel....like the old saying goes "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were" ...

Try this for a used Lowrance FF......... http://www.bbcboards.net/electronics/

Yes, some under the door handles.....but the rest in the gas tank as someone already mentioned, bio-fuel.... Another option is to get a car parked VERY close in front of the vehicle and another VERY close behind the trailer....then watch and wait the fun start.... I once had a lawn cutting business block "MY" driveway with their trailer so they could cut several lawns in the neiborhood.....when I approached the owner and kindly asked them to pull forward he asked me if I was leaving right now.....as I was inconviencing him and his workers....go figure.

Two reasons I wouldn't release these Lake Erie Jumbo's...... 1) they are coming from deep water and survival rate is not very good good.... 2) if released and they do survive, chances are they could be caught by the commercial fishermen, using gill nets.
-
But I'm still confused.......
