  1. The more powerful Lowrance make a lot of sense if you will be fishing the Great Lakes or any other deep lake. Also the Lowrance 522 can be networked together while the Eagle cannot. There are also some other smaller features on the Lowrance that you might not be aware of if you purchase the Eagle but will enjoy if you get the Lowrance. I have always been a Lowrance fan. ALL the Pro's have Lowrance as do ALL tournament anglers. But that's not saying there is anything wrong by saving a few dollars on the Eagle brand. It just has less bells and whistles than the it's bigger brother.
  2. I personally don't believe it happened. I don't believe any CO is going to do that because it will not hold up in court. I lived next door to a DEC officer for nine years and I know it would never happen here in NYS. I believe it's a beer tail..............
  3. Sorry to hear about the ding bumper already. I had the same thing happen to my Saturn Coupe in a bank parking lot but at least the guy came in and told me. Then later that week the neighbor across the street back into the same spot. Go figure. My offer still stands if you want to drive here. It's up to you. I have regular Truxport (not Low Pro) cover and it also locks from the inside and if you have a locking tailgate you cannot open it. Like I said I like it better because the aluminum rails are up and out of the box so they can't get damaged and it gives you about 2" more of clearance below the cover. Bob
  4. That's the most ridiculous thing I ever seen. I would love to see that on a typical windy day. I would be surprised if a couple thousand were ever sold here or in Canada.
  5. I have to agree with you here. I really don't like the look of a pick up truck with a cap on. But I do see it's advantages sometimes. You can use it to sleep in while fishing. I can't do that with my tonneau cover. Well I could but it would be like sleeping in a coffin....... As far as trying to same the original poster so money, I offered to have him ship a cover of his choice to my house in the US (I'm only 15 minutes from the Peace Bridge) and I could of helped him install it in 30 minutes. But I guess it's hard to trust a stranger on the internet so I can't blame him. However this same cover would of only cost him $476.10 with FREE Shipping here. But I would recommend the other tonneau cover and not the Low Pro unit because the Low Pro Unit is supported INSIDE the bed box so you will have to be careful NOT to get the aluminum rails damaged. For me that's impossible because I use my truck to haul LOTS of wood in the fall. AND he could of gotten the regular Truxedo cover for only $299.00 and FREE shipping. PLUS the regular unit sits up a bit higher giving you about 2" more in head space and I believe the snow and rain will run off much better. But to each his own. I'm sure he will enjoy either cover. They do make the best Tunneau covers. Here are the units and prices. http://www.autoanything.com/tonneau-covers...A0A3151152.aspx http://www.autoanything.com/tonneau-covers/60A2044A0A0.aspx
  6. I still need a little more info. Is the Sonar/GPS unit a Lowrance LMS 522C unit ? It sounds like it is. It don't matter much where the power is coming from to power that unit as long as you have inline fuses protecting it. There really is no need to take this to someone to install a Sonar/GPS unit. But for now you might just want to disconnect the unit's power source and do a temporary wiring directly to the battery. It's just two wires since you have a internal antenna, so positive to the positive battery side and of course negative to the negative side of the battery. PLEASE USE a inline fuse. MY bet would be you might still have the problem because I am thinking you have a unit defect. So if it still will not shut off with the temporary wiring set up you will in fact know it's the unit. Now depending on how old the unit is there is the SUPER CUSTOMER SERVICE LADY that works for Lowrance that will definitely correct and satisfy you. Here name is LINDA COLT and here is her email. [email protected] BTW here is what other say about this SUPER LADY. http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zerothread/193749
  7. From what I have heard the new NYS Enhanced Driver License (EDL) has a chip in it but there is no personal info on that chip but rather a code number that is pick up at the border. That code number is stored in the computer system used at the border crossing to cross reference info on you. So if someone does get the chance to read your EDL chip unauthorized they only get for example ny299874dzrl43mb17 which is useless to them. I know people that will not get a EZ-Pass tag to travel on the NYS Thruway because they are afraid big brother is keep track of where they are and where they are going. OK then sit in line to pay the toll and stop complaining. Me, I get a 10% discount PLUS my boat trailer is NOT charged because I use EZ-Pass
  8. VEGAS baby.......... You and your wife will LOVE 4 or 5 days in VEGAS. BOOK now and get some of the greatest deals around.... (cut rates because of the economy) We have been there 5 times and my wife would go again at the drop of a hat. You DON'T have to be gamblers in the LEAST to enjoy VEGAS...... There are sooooo many top shows to see and FREE stuff to do you will LOVE it. The HOTELS are HUGE and have GREAT pools, SPA's etc....... Now here's my best tip I can give you. We have been to several different hotel/casino's and I HIGHLY recommend GMG GRAND..... MGM Grand has over 5,000 room and 28 restaurants with MANY being top rated restaurants. EMERILS, Wolfgang Puck etc...... are there and several others. Not to mention all the other hotels on the strip. The strip is over 4 miles long with one hotel / casino next to the other. But these places are so large it might take you 30 - 40 minutes to walk next door. BELIEVE ME there is so much to do there, especially if you plan your trip in advance you never have to gamble a nickel but you WILL...........LOL If you don't mind driving down to Buffalo International Airport you can get a NON STOP flight leaving at 8am and arriving in VEGAS at 10:10am Vegas time. ALWAYS book the cheapest room and tip the check in clerk $20 for a FREE upgrade. WORKS every time. Make sure you check out Southwest VACATIONS packages. Some of the top shows to see is Danny Ganns, Reda Rutner and La Famme (Crazy Horse) in MGM Grand. There are several other TOP shows including "O", Zumanty, Ka, Beatles plus several others. Here are a couple links to get you started. (to get a good DEAL check out the Southwest Vacations link) http://www.mgmgrand.com/ http://www.southwestvacations.com/?cmpid=O...mp;referrer=S01 PM me for any more tips if VEGAS is your choice. Like I have said we have been there a few times and know many tips that might help you. Bob
  9. I have a 1985 50 hp Johnson that is a VRO (variable ratio oiling) and it runs as lean as 150:1 when trolling and idling. After 24 years of a LOT of trolling on Erie and Ontario plus lots of high speed traveling it runs exactly the way it was when new. As a matter of fact I fished with a old fishing buddy I haven't fished with in about 10 years Friday and he started laughing when I started it up for the first time Friday morning. I asked what's so funny. He said "that motor still runs like it did when you purchased this boat, no knocks or anything. It just purrs". Well you know I never thought of it that way until he made that remark. BTW for a LONG time I have been using Walmart's SuperTech 2 cycle oil in it. When I seen how well it ran on it (i think it's LuberMatic Oil) I purchased 5 one gallon containers at $7.77 each. Only got one left after filling up my 2 gallon reserve Thursday but I did price them about a month ago and if I remember correctly they are $8.95 now.
  10. I have a Lowrance Chip that has all the streets in Canada and the US plus it also has TOPO maps for all your lakes. I used just once to navigate and not get lost on the French River last June. I am willing to sell to you if your interested in it.
  11. It's true that new HDS units are all internal antennas and the antenna is now in the FACE of the unit. But the LMS and LCX units are still problematic of in dash installs and using them up front when you have the unit tilted all the up so you can view the screen while standing and working your trolling motor. BTW Lowrance still has a puck for the new HDS units that is smaller than the LMS pucks but is 5 times faster to upgrade map movement. This is a $249.00 option. Also true that if you download the new software from Lowrance that NOW you can network them (LMS 522 or 527) together and or use a external antenna. However, there are still units on shelfs that have 2.1 or 2.3 software versions for the LMS units. Mine which I purchased last year had 2.1 software when I received it. But the software upgrade is a VERY easy fix on all these units using Lowrance's website and going to it's software update page. I now have the 2.4.0 upgrade and have downloaded the 2.4.2 BETA software which is suppose to COMPLETELY correct shallow water reading. This BETA software now gives you a SHALLOW WATER option on the menu to check if you are having shallow water reading issues with the 2.4.0 version. I was crappie fishing the last two days and mine unit is working perfectly with the 2.4.0 software but I do keep onboard the 2.4.2 BETA version chip in my mapping card storage case just in case. Take a good look at what the new HDS units are capable on this short video (scroll down until you see the video part) http://walleye.outdoorsfirst.com/board/for...s=8&start=1 Bob
  12. I have a way to settle this whole thing... You Canucks stay on your side and us Yankees will stay on our side. Then we can cast Michigan crickets at each other over the Niagara River. If you can snag someone from the other side and land him, he can stay and visit for a while. ...LOL NO passports required, just like catching a fish.....
  13. I have a Lowrance LMS 520c unit. Great unit but with that being said they are discontinued and getting warranty service on them may be now only 3-4 years. It would be wise to get a HDS unit as it is a much better unit from everyone I have talked to that now has one with warranty service/part available for some time to come. If you do decide to get a LMS unit the 520 gets much better GPS reception because of the external antenna ESPECIALLY if your will be doing a flush mount in the dash because the internal antenna is built in the top back part of the unit and MANY guys have reported of continuously losing GPS reception because either the unit it built in OR the unit is tipped upward to read while fishing up front using the trolling motor. If you have a choice you might want to steer clear of LMS internal antennas. Bob
  14. I would bet he is perfectly legal because the two rods pointing forward are not in the water and only laying in the bow of the boat as extra rods. They may be casting rods when they are tired of trolling or maybe set up for perch fishing later. I have more rods in my boat then I am legally allowed to fish with many times but if there just in the boat and not towing lures around what's wrong with that. Bob I take it all back after taking a second look but this time with my reading glasses on. I do see now the extra planer boards.
  15. When I pumped gas as a 18 year old kid the Exxon I worked at right in front of the Buffalo International Airport was charging 36 cents per gallon and we were the HIGHEST around. We charge a lot more because we were more interested in repair jobs and the owner wanted to make it our worth while to get out from under a car and pump gas. BTW our gas has been rising lately. The Noco by my house is now $2.15 per gallon but I went crappie fishing today and got gas at the Res for $1.99 per gallon. The Indians are NOT discounting it very much now for some reason. We usually get between 30 - 40 cents off per gallon at the Res.
  16. This is TRUE if you have a NEW YORK STATE ENHANCED Driver's License (EDL). I have not hear anything that the US Federal Government has accepted anything like this from Ontario or any other Canadian Provence. So if you are Canadian or any other foreigner you MUST have a passport to cross the border by any means starting JUNE 1st, 2009. SORRY, I agree it all Bull..... The Mexicans are running right over EVERYDAY and most are not sent back but I need a passport or EDL to gain access BACK into my own country. LOL
  17. Oh YEA, it's definitely different down here. We have women with two heads walking around and some men with three legs running around...... ...... not to mention how much less they make us pay for gasoline.... Better stay in Canada where there are only normal Canadians walking about..... ......LOL
  18. There is a BIG push here in the Buffalo area to get either a passport or Enhanced Drivers License which is what I got. But just yesterday on the NATIONAL news here that comes on after the local news at 6:30pm said passport applications are DOWN about 20% because of the economy. Go Figure.......
  19. LOL..... it was suppose to read NOT allowed but my fingers don't go as fast as my mind. As a matter of fact my mind has been GONE for a long time..
  20. The way things are going pretty soon you will be allowed a opinion.
  21. When it's colder it just takes longer to get to operating temperature. Never change my mix but then again I have a 1985 VRO Johnson that does it for me. TAKE IT FOR A TEST RIDE and see what you are buying. Not only are you checking out the motor but let's make sure that tub isn't leaking vast amount of H2O all over the floor. It's nice to have a livewell but only for the fish.
  22. TAKE IT FOR A RIDE.................. This is the only way you know what you are buying. You wouldn't purchase a car without driving it would you. ANYONE who will not let you take it out is hiding something. Good Luck, Bob
  23. The Titan truck will now be built by, BELIEVE it or not Chrysler.....
  24. I few times when I didn't tow my boat up to Ontario for a fly-in or even twice when I rented a houseboat I was never given any kind of quiz of any kind.
