Anyone own a Dodge Ram 1500? or have owned one?
Billy Bob replied to Mattones's topic in General Discussion
I just checked by trying to build one on the Dodge site and it could be either 3:55 or 3:92 with the 5.7 L Hemi engine. He didn't mention what model (Crew Cab or Regular Cab or whatever) so I used Quad Cab in the building. Don't know if that makes any difference with Dodge. If it's the 3:92 it will cost in some mileage but there isn't a tow able boat out there he can't tow even through the mountains........ Edited to add: After taking another look on the Dodge site the 3:92 gears are a $375 OPTION so it would be listed on the window sticker I would think. So if not listed that beast has 3:55 gears. It could be either, Tundra has 4:30 rear end and a class IV hitch and it's a 4X4 1/2 ton truck. -
It's OK but can't replace the real thing. I tried them several times perch fishing on Lake Erie last year and only caught gobies while real minnow caught nice perch. As previously said they do well on smallmouth. I really think they are WAY overpriced but then was isn't these days. Bob

With the class IV hitch and towing package I would be guessing 3:92 Edited to add: Silver is a GREAT color. It always looks clean. This was my #1 option that my truck had to have when I purchased TUNDRA. -

The he|| with the Leafs, they are only going to lose unless they are playing the Sabres..... Take that bad boy for a ride and break it in nice............ -
When they are transported, at least on rail cars they chained down to the frames. Years ago when the tri-levels were completely open we would have to measure the top vehicles so we didn't make convertibles out of them (this still happened at times). When the overall hight was too much we would let out air from the tires and tight down the chains. Then you wonder why you got OEM tires with bad belts..........

Congratulations and enjoy the new sweet ride -
I have a dual purpose DELCO VOYAGER Group 24 as my starting battery which runs ALL my electronics except my trolling battery. This is a Maintenance Free battery so no water every has to be added. For me this is a HUGE Plus because it would be a real pain to unbolt it in order to add water. But anyways I have had this battery for at least 8 years now. I would purchase this battery again in a heart beat if I could find someone here who still sells them but I haven't. Maybe I will get lucky and find one. I also have this battery on charge with my on-board charger 24/7 365 days a year. BTW Marine Starting Batteries are NOT the same as a automobile battery as the plates within the battery are cushioned better to handle the pounding the battery receives in a boat. Bob

Toyota is said to now be working on a 8 speed tranny to improve gas mileage. The current 5.7 L engine with it's 6 speed tranny (2 overdrives) still gets 19 mpg on the HIGHWAY. I went round trip from Lancaster, NY to Chapleau, Ontario and got 19.38 miles per gallon. But this was NOT towing anything, however I did get stuck in traffic on the way home near Toronto and had a 35 minute wait getting across the Rainbow bridge on the way home. On the way there we left early and NO slow ups at all. But without the two slow ups on the way home I am thinking I could of cracked 20 mpg. Of course this is driving with a easy foot and keeping the speed down to 62 miles per hour. This is with a DOUBLE CAB 4X4 SR5 Model, not just a regular cab 2 wheel drive. The one thing to remember with the Tundra is it has TONS of towing power. With it's 5.7L engine it produces 381 hp with 401 # of torque and is match with 4:30 rear end gear ratio that can tow 10,800 lbs all day every day. It was designed for towing and hauling. IF Toyota put in higher gears like GM, let say 3:5O or 3:73 rear end gears it would EASILY break the 20 mpg with it's 6 speed tranny. With gas prices going to rise in the next year or two watch Toyota to make changes to drastically increase mileage. The new '07 Tundra was built when our gas prices were stable. Of course you can also look for the Small Three to also increase gas mileage in all there trucks. Good Luck Truck Hunting and have fun with your new sweet ride. Bob -
Next year come to the Buffalo show and tell your representatives why......

If your really want Side Imaging Lowrance's new HDS units that are now on sale will be getting a upgrade sometime in 2009 so side imaging can be added. This is suppose to blow away HB units. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...602012&rid= and info on Lowrance's Side Imagining. http://www.lowrance.com/en/HDS-Revolution/...ing-Sonar-Video SO, you can spend some money on the BEST sonar unit with that being a Lowrance HDS unit and by fall side imaging can be added.

To me it looks like it's not all the way to the metal. Either way you want to touch it up. You can go to the dealer and get a small bottle of touch of paint if the car is a late model. OR you can go to a auto part store and pick some up that either is a perfect match or very similar paint. If you have to purchase spray paint DON'T spray the car. Instead shake the can up very well and spray some in the inside of the cap that came with the paint so it puddles up a little bit. Then take a match, the kind that are come in a book that you tear out and use the part that tore as you little paint brush. This is a professional tip that I have used for YEARS to touch up scratches. I really hate to see a car keyed. To me it's just a HUGE waste. Good Luck, Bob

Holdfast, I'm pretty sure you have this guy pegged. But like some others have said I would take the high road, however still making him do more than his fair share of work. He should do at least what you do in a normal work day by yourself. In four sight the town is putting themselves in a dangerous position. A guy like this could complain of a back injury either before the end of the work day or even the next day. Anxiously waiting to hear about your day with him. Bob

Trust me on that Cabela's unit. At least take a look at it and read the literature on it. I know I would purchase another one. I have mine on 24/7 365 days a year. Really maintains my batteries. The starting battery must be at LEAST 8 years old now. But I am thinking of replacing it this year just because of it's age. Bob Edited to add: Check out the customer reviews on this unit that Cabela's has posted with this site. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...equestid=104551

200 degrees or under works fine.

Been smoking for about 20 years now and have found keeping it simple works fine. Fillet fish and leave skin on. Take one gallon of water and 1/3 cup of KOSHER salt and 1/2 of brown sugar. Mix throughly. Place fish in a NON metal container and pour brine (see above) over the fish. Leave in frig until next day. Rinse fish off with cold water and pat dry as possible with paper towels. Place skin side down in the smoker. As far as smoking I have hickory, apple, cherry and mesquite wood but as someone else here mentioned MAPLE wood works GREAT. Because you are smoking fish that has been filleted it only takes about 3 hours. Now here's the trick to smoking properly.......................... you have to drink large amounts of either cold Canadian beer or RUM & COKES until the fish is done. Then it doesn't matter how it comes out as it will still taste GREAT..... Now if you think this is fun you should be around for smoked ribs or smoked turkey................

I have this on-board charger from Cabela's. I had it for 4.5 years when one day the light just started flashing. I called Cabela's to get info on who makes it so maybe I could do something with it. They look it up and said send it in and they replaced it FREE of charge. I did have to pay $14 for shipping to them but it was over 2 years past warranty. But anyways here's the unit and for $189 you can get a 3 bank unit saving you about $100 for expensive gasoline to go fishing. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...&hasJS=true

My wife and I met George (the owner) at the Buffalo Sportsman show last year and booked a trip for mid July '08. EVERYTHING was as explained and shown on their pamphlet. I would use his service again and recommend them to anyone. Since I was taking my wife I didn't want to take her to a outpost. Instead we flew into Lake Nemesegonda (sp) where they have hot/cold water, flush toilets and electricity. We did the American plan for 3 nights and they fed us some much food I could barely walk after each meal, but I did and I walk back for the next meal. The walleye fishing was VERY good but we only caught one large pike and nothing else. I am sure the outpost lakes are even better. If you need more info PM me. Bob
