I don't have a seniors card, when i called service canada because i hadn't recieved one, they told me they had run out of them and were hoping to get more, then play catch up with the waiting list for those who need them.

now i know you are supposed to be able to prove your age, but i just checked my outdoors card and it has the date of my birth embossed on it. since it is a document issued by the provincial government , shouldn't it count as proof of age? Is it really necessary to carry a drivers licence or some other document?

you will need a licence up to your birthday, last year i turned 65 in october so i had to buy one for the year. if you turn 65 before the season starts you won't need one, but if the season starts before your birthday and you plan on fishing don't tempt fate, spend the money and get one.

gee, some of you guys were busy today, me i went fishing for an hour, rode my quad for 1/2 hour and this is the first posting i've read since i woke up from my 2 hour power nap, you guys are wearing me out. LOL

This morning i took an hour or so to try my luck at the little river just down the road from the house to see if i could upgrade my pike submission for team 10. After 30 minutes, there hadn't been a bite so i ventured up to the truck and pulled out a cigar to sit back and enjoy. Sure as shootin, i no sooner had a couple puffs when my line starts to run. Now being the prepared fisherman that i am, i had put my cigar holder on my chair just in case this happened. I grabbed my pole and set the hook (i thought) then fumbled around to put my cigar in the holder. while doing this i let out some slack line so the pike could run a bit. This was not a good idea. by the time i got the cigar in the holder, the pike had spit the hook but kept the bait. (it had to be a big pike 40 inches plus as it's always the big ones that get away.) What a bummer, after that the cigar just didn't have the same soothing effect as it did prior to the bite. I've been told the cigars are going to kill me, but today they just got me a little po'd. That was the only bite i had so maybe tomorrow, i'll try again after all, i still got more cigars in the truck

a year or so when i was shopping around for a new unit, i really had my heart set on a new lowrance hd unit, but after talking to the guys at cabelas, wholesale sports and pro am tackle in winnipeg i decided to go with humminbird. the dealers all told me the service from humminbird was FAR superior to lowrance, in fact they stated when the called lowrance for srvice on units they have sold, their calls were seldom returned. they also told me that for the money, humminbird had more features. i ended up with a humminbird that has side scan but not down scan. i seldom use that feature. but mine has a gps and lots of split screen options that i constantly use. i guess everyone has their preferences, but at that point in time, i went humminbird, someone may tell you to go to lowrance based on their experiences, just compare their options and how you want to use it.

i just came in from starting my 20 merc for the first time this year and i noticed that i didn't get any water out of the pee hole on top just a dribble, after the motor ran for a couple minutes the stream started. I agree with the previous poster, there must be a thermostat that has to heat up before the stream comes.

I should be able to answer this, because today i went fishing for 1.5 hrs and when i came home i thought my wife called me a pro, at least i think it was a pro, i do know it started with "pr".

back when i was a kid, in the 1950s, i always fished the grand river at the end of our street in Brantford, never paid any attention to the rules or regs, in fact don't know to this day if there was any at that time, but all i cared for was the fact that i had a rod, a reel and a can of worms to use up. Any fish i caught, usually smallies, went back in the river but i remember the first pike i got, went home to show dad, and it ended up under mom's rose bush. (at that time the grand was too polluted to eat anything from) Kids who love to fish will take it to heart if you give them advice on the regs if done in a nice way, especially now that the "green" movement is in the forefront of the social conscience. I think you handled it the right way.

for over a quarter century, the unincorporated area that i live in at Gullrock lake has operated a dump for the residents. Originally it was put in place by the mnr for their use, then when we moved out to the area the mnr started closing the local dumps down and if the residents of the area wanted to keep their dump open they would have to form an association to operate it. this involved getting incorporated (not cheap) and keeping the dump up to certain standards. when the hole for the household garbage got full, the mnr would give permission to dig another one and show the location of where it could go. they also did annual inspections for type of material and cleanliness. each time we needed a new hole, the mnr would tell us the dump is reaching the end of its lifespan and the new hole may be the last one allowed, then the hole would be filled with garbage and another one dug, with another warning about the lifespan of the dump. last year the municipality started recycling and got a large government grant to construct sheds to hold all the various type of recycled materials. they made this free to everyone in the area, so in the unincorporated areas we all started recycling figuring it would increase the lifespan of our dump. we also dug a new hole, costing over $1000 and we figured it would last 5 years due to the recycling . Last night one of our neighbours, a tourist operator, who sits on the executive of the dump committee with me came to he house to tell me that the mnr has identified our dump as posssible transition site for the municipality (Red Lake) because the municipality is quickly running out of room at their dump and in order to give the municipality time to do a study on a new municipal dump location, the mnr is considering selling them our dump. If the mnr tells us that the dump we have is nearing the end of its lifespan, how can they justify using the site for a municipality of over 3000 households for 3 years when we have 5 tourist camps (seasonably operated) and 10 permanent households using it currently. the municipal operation currently has set hours of operation, not open on weekends or past 5 pm. it draws large numbers of bears and other wildlife that scavenge in it. it also costs $2 a bag to put the garbage in. the tourist operators almost all empty their fish guts after everyone is off the lake each day and this is way past the 5pm operation of the municipality, this would mean more bears coming into camp and more danger to their guests. What really ticks me off is the mnr, knowing the municipality has already got property further down the highway (10km) from our dump that is already cleared and would be more than appropriate for their use, even considering the use of our dump. our dump association is trying to set up a meeting with the mnr to get them to reconsider their options, but it's like beating your head against a wall . any suggestions on a strategy would be appreciated. end of rant,

i used to have a winchester lever action but sold it to buy the marlin 336. it has a smoother action in my opinion and is a quality rifle for the money.

Simon, before you go to winnipeg, give Bob a call at pro am tackle, I got my ipilot terrova there for 100 dollars than either cabelas or wholesale sports. he always has sales on and is easy to deal with. Last year Jeanine from AJ fabrics called Bob when she bought her husband an ipilot for his boat and was really happy to get the deal and service, they sent it on bus and saved her the sales tax. they are located in the stip mall on the west side of lagomodiere at the regent street intersection. there is a royal fork restaurant , joeys only , safeway, penningtons and perkins restaurant in the same strip section. it's just a hole in the wall store but they always have good deals. they do have a web page, but i didn't save it so just give it a google. you might be pleasantly surprised.

I have a 20 merc on my 16 lund big laker and it pushes it at 27 mph. so it would have lots of get up and go on a 14

a couple years ago i got a pair of 14 boats that were in rough shape. I got some of the green stick epoxy from cabelas and did every rivet with it. those boats have been cached for over 5 years now and only a couple minor leaks appeared. If you got the green stick and filled the holes with it you might get away with a cheap fix

+20s up here too Simon, the ice seems to have lifted and is turning a very dark colour.

+10 today the snow has gone down by atleast half. lots of slush now on the lake. supposed to be +16 on the weekend. The only drawback is my neighbour, who spends the winter in Florida, is coming back in early April and within a day or so of her coming back we usually get a HUGE dumping of snow. (and she refuses to stay in Florida until opening weekend LOL)

i have some motorolas that are supposed to be good for a long distance (can't remember how far but they were the farthest made at the time of purchase.) and i'm lucky to be able to raise my buddy from a distance greater than 2 miles on open water , not really worth the money i paid for them.

I was glancing through a bass pro catalogue and saw this abu Revo mtx reel, it looked pretty interesting so i started checking out the prices in other stores. generally the price range is anywhere from $342 at lebarons to $369 at cabelas canada , bass pro (US) and Cabelas (US) were both $349. I went to the bass pro site and cliked on the web page that described the reel and read the reviews from customers, they were all raving about it, but , how can you judge the reviews for being independent and not planted. (if you know what i mean). So I figured , if i'm going to spend that kind of money on a reel, (and i'm really torn on whether or not an expensive reel will catch any more fish than a cheaper reel) I'd like to hear what the people on a site I trust have to say about the reel. Any comments, pro or con would be appreciated.

i got one for the wife, i liked it so much i got one for myself. lots of ball bearings and smooth action. for the money it is hard to beat, i think i paid about 69 dollars for it at cabelas in owatanna

just got home today from Orlando , weather was great, last year we did universal and you HAVE to do the rides , i'm 65 and they made me feel like a kid again, loved the simpson ride, harry potter was neat and the disaster movie was kinda cool to, i'd go back to universal again , one thing though, go to Mels Diner and get a milk shake, you need a spoon to devour it.

I went through the same thing with my brother's collection. I ended up going stamp by stamp through his US stamps and the values added up to over $400 but he has another 3 books of Canadian and world stamps and I'm not even going to attempt to do those. I've tried to contact the stamp collectors in the winnipeg area but i've been told the stamp collecting fad is long gone and virtually no one can appraise a collection let alone find anyone who would want to buy it.
