  1. 5 years ago when I was in the market for a new boat I looked at many boat selliing places from Thunder Bay to Southern Ontario. I did find one outfit called Mikes Motor & Marine on Highway 6 at Mount Hope that sold Crestliners and Mercury outboards who offered me a good deal. their phone number is 905-679-3391. In the end I bought locally in Red Lake for servicing availability if I needed warranty work. Try to shop close to home for that reason.
  2. I live on Gullrock Lake, it is part of the Red Lake chain of lakes. We are 350 miles north west of Thunder Bay and 325 miles north east of Winnipeg. The walleye fishing up here is second to none and we have huge lake trout and an abundance of northerns (mostly fished by the US visitors). I rarely get to Brantford and when I do get there, I don't have any fishing equipment with me as my trips to the home town are usually for burials of relatives.
  3. I guess it depends on where you are living. Up north we don't have any special licences just a knowledge of the water we fish and the boats we handle. In our area, many clients expect a shore lunch. However, this is not always provided and the price for each trip is based on how many in the boat and if a shore lunch is wanted. As far as making a living, well if you gotta go into hock for a big boat and equipment, making the living could be really tough. Up here the camps figure on a 20 week earning period. So the length of time you could spend fishing would also have to be taken into account.
  4. I grew up in Brantford, in Eagle Place and as a kid I used to fish the "bass hole". this was at the end of the dyke at the bottom of Baldwin Ave and got some good fish there, we also fished a place called green waters that was off the end of Birketts Lane for bass. I have been gone from Brantford for over 30 years now and when I look at the fishing regs I see so many different regulations for the Grand River, it's kind of mind boggling as to what you can use and when you can fish. So my question is to you Grand River fishermen, has the fishing improved that much that alll these regulations are needed and what type of fish are you getting from the river?
  5. I thought they looked like fingerprint bruise marks from swinging that hammerhandle so tight.
  6. google a resort called Fees Landing, it is in the Kawartha Lakes area, I think, I saw a TV show( fishful thinking) and they were fishing from there and got some good muskies. Might be worth a try.
  7. I rode the elevator with Patrick McNee (from the avengers) when I stayed in a toronto hotel. I worked with Walter Gretzky for 6 years when I lived in brantford. My brother in law for a while was the actor Nick Mancuso. I fish the Red Lake fall classic and rub shoulders with Gary Roach at this event, and have met Bob Probst Sr. at the same event.
  8. This is kind of an interesting topic. Since all the funds paid to the Province go into the general account of the province, the funds are generated by every person that pays sales tax, income tax and any other tax in the Province. They in turn dole the funds to specific ministries to form the budget for that ministry. One of those is the ministry of municipal affairs and housing who forwards money to the municipalities for a number of situations to help the municipalities run their town, city or hamlet. Since all the funds are paid by everyone in the province and since the municipality is already recieving some of these funds from the province, one could deduce that the fee the municipality is seeking has already been paid. Don't feel bad though, on Walleye Central.com there were a number of threads that dealt with fishing on the Mississipi River and a supreme court ruling from one state that said basically the owner of the land adjacent to the river owns the water in front of his property and has the right to restrict anyone from fishing on the river in front of his property. Sounds like a small fee isn't to high a price to pay to avoid this next step that someone is likely to try and get legislated
  9. Well since this is my first posting a new topic let me tell you I live on the beautiful Gullrock Lake about 11 km south of Red Lake in the heart of Sunset Country. There are only six houses in our subdivision and only 3 of us are full time residents. Therefore we have the ability to have a lot of wildlife visit us in the winter months (moose, deer, wolves). Last night we had a visit from a partridge (part of a flock of 10 that prowl around the houses) and he hit the house in full flight. I picked him up and he sat in my hand for a few minutes, then just died. Now, as all fishermen know you cannot waste the meat you catch, I did the only thing I could, and it is now in the deep freeze. If the MNR read this and come by to check on me I guess my only excuse can be;I DIDN'T KNOW THE HOUSE WAS LOADED!! I guess this puts a whole new spin on the term house hunting.
  10. Kim and Wendy are my next door neighbours. The musky I was holding was caught on Eagle Lake (start of walleye season and they weren't in season) If you go to Eagle you can try catching it.
  11. The place by the water in Red Lake, was it a large building with a restaurant in it , or was it a tourist camp.? If you need anything about accomodations in Red Lake I can help with that because I live there.
