  1. Alerts for: Red Lake - Ear Falls Warnings 3:30 PM EDT Sunday 30 March 2014 Snowfall warning in effect for: Red Lake - Woodland Caribou Park Major winter storm Monday into Tuesday. A low pressure system forming over Colorado is expected to track northeast and intensify into a major winter storm as it reaches Lake Superior Monday night. Snow at times heavy is expected to develop Monday morning and continue throughout the day. Snow is likely to be mixed with ice pellets at times with a risk of freezing rain. Current indications suggest that 15 to 25 centimetres of snow are possible for regions in the snowfall warning. Local blowing snow reducing visibility is also likely. Travellers should consider changing their plans as driving conditions will quickly deteriorate and become hazardous after the snow moves in on Monday. The winter storm will end on Tuesday as the storm centre tracks from Lake Superior to James Bay.
  2. i just spent 1/2 hour with the insurance agents that I got my boat coverage from in Winnipeg and when I left I was vowing to find a different insurance company . my boat is now 13 years old, the cost of the coverage has gone from 650 a year when originally bought to 802 this year. that includes Ontario sales tax that i'm told started to be charged 2 years ago. on top of that, they gave me a form to have my boat appraised by September and returned along with pictures of the boat in order to get insurance next year. when I bought the insurance I was told I had replacement value insurance, now they are telling me that was never the case . what I have is insurance that will pay up to what I paid for the boat 13 years ago. that was 35k but to replace it now i'm looking at 50k. needless to say, when I left the insurance office I was not a happy boater. i'm going to watch this thread closely to see if anyone else has better agents and companies that I can talk to.
  3. calling for 10 cm here tomorrow, spring will happen, maybe in June

  5. years ago, I was looking for a new boat and the only boat and motor dealer I could find was a guy outside highway 3 south of Hamilton, it's either that or proctor marine in Simcoe.
  6. you forgot to mention to those folks in Southern Ontario, in Dryden that is considered a "slider"
  7. up here we use heating oil, in December it was $1.30 a litre, my last bill was for January, it was $1.39 a litre. i'm lucky I can burn oil to help keep the fuel oil consumption down but it is still over $500 for less than 100 gallons of fuel oil (1/2 tank).
  8. when I started building my house, I told the wife I wouldn't retire until it was finished, well it has been 19 years of retirement and i'm still not done, I think she's used to the fact that things take time. maybe not as much as I've taken but over the time frame she has gotten use to the little things that are left to do. just remember, happy wife, happy life.

  12. $72,500 In Fines For Illegal Activities By CKDR News - January 13th, 2014 - 2:05pm Photo11-people have pleaded guilty to a total of 68-charges and fined $72,500 for offences that took place at Andy Myers Lodge, on Eagle Lake, west of Dryden. The charges stem from a two-year covert investigation in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources, United States Fish and Wildlife Services, the departments of Natural Resources for Wisconsin, Michigan, New York and Minnesota as well as the New Zealand Commission of Wildlife. Conservation officers discovered that Steve Herbeck, a former owner and operator of Andy Myers, and his staff encouraged clients to hunt wolves without a licence. Court heard that staff then used their own resident licences to validate the wolf or arranged for guests to buy licences afterward. He also allowed guests to fish without a licence and use more than the allowable amount of fishing rods. Herbeck was fined $7,500 and his business was fined $27,000 for 22-offences. He's not allowed to hunt in Ontario for ten years. Six lodge employees have also been fined. Danny Herbeck and Chris Federman were fined $7,000 each and can't hunt for the next four and eight years respectively. The other employees charged were Andy Bouchard of Waldhof, Calum Rutchie of Waldhof, Tammy Pelletier of Waldhof and Scott Munford of Vermilion Bay. Three lodge guests from Wisconsin, New York and New Zealand were also charged for various offences. (George Lindsay, Travis Runde and Don Rabideau Jr.)
  13. my neighbour bought a 15K snow machine from the alumacraft dealer in red lake and got a 400 leather jacket, I bought a 36k boat motor and trailer from the same guy and got a 15 dollar hat, I guess if you don't ask for goodies from the sales people, you are left wanting . good luck in the purchasing process
  14. it would be nice to catch a break and warm up for a couple weeks though.

  16. cnn is reporting that A&E executives are backing off on the suspension of Phil Robertson and he will be in the future episodes of Duck Dynasty.
  17. the building could be slow because of all the timber and beam construction they have inside.
  18. looks like a few people got good hauls. i'm waiting for the wife to wake up. then we might tackle our stockings.
  19. I start a 10 day rotation on Christmas day, 5 days of day shift then right into 5 night shifts. Christmas and new years are just ordinary days in the justice system
  20. the tourist camps on our lake have had a policy of no walleye over 18 inches for years and the fishing has improved immensely and most of the US visitors I see with big fish, now take pictures and release the big ones. the locals here though have a different feeling and follow the regulations that allows one over the slot size
  21. I went on the a&e website , hit the feedback button and sent them an email showing my dislike for their cowardice in giving in to a group of people who disagree with Phil's opinion. I told them that if they give in to the gay and lesbian group for the stance of the church Phil belongs to then they should remove any programing that has gays and lesbian's on because I don't agree with that lifestyle or any show that has catholics on it since I don't agree with the stance that their church has on abortion. hopefully they will see the absolute absurdity of giving it to one vocal group over the rights of others, especially now that the Robertson family has issued a statement that they cannot see going forward with any more episodes without Phil. GOOD FOR THEM.
