  1. Hey Dave, if you read this, we have Subway up here in the northwest too. How about planning a session in Dryden or Kenora so the anglers up here could have the benefit of your knowledge.
  2. since there are no stupid questions , i'll ask What the heck is straight line angling?
  3. I stopped at Vermilion Bay today to pickup a coffee before heading to Dryden, the sign on the highway was showing $1.34 per litre. I thought it was for the high test. NOPE when I did get gas I found it in Dryden at $1.28 a litre. looks like i'm gonna be running the 20 horse mercury on the little boat more than the 150 merc on my big boat (40 gallon capacity) this year.
  4. I had the same problem in January and they wanted to sell me a second licence in order for me to fish prior to the outdoors card arriving. it's the old left hand , right hand scenario.
  5. got this in an email: from Jimmy Fallon . . . referring to Prince William's bachelor party: "It's gotta be weird stuffing money into a stripper's bikini when every bill has a photo of your grandmother printed on it."

  9. Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of a neighbouring kingdom. The monarch could have killed him, but was moved by Arthur's youth and ideals. So, the monarch offered him his freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer and, if, after a year, he still had no answer, he would be put to death. The question?...What do women really want? Such a question would perplex even the most knowledgeable man, and to young Arthur, it seemed an impossible query. But, since it was better than death, he accepted the monarch's proposition. He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everyone: the princess, the priests, the wise men and even the court jester. He spoke with everyone, but no one could give him a satisfactory answer. Many people advised him to consult the old witch, for only she would have the answer. But the price would be high, as the witch was famous throughout the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged. The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no choice but to talk to the witch. She agreed to answer the question, but he would have to agree to her price first. The old witch wanted to marry Sir Lancelot, the most noble of the Knights of the Round Table and Arthur's closest friend! Young Arthur was horrified. She was hunchbacked and hideous, had only one tooth, smelled like sewage, made obscene noises, etc. He had never encountered such a repugnant creature in all his life. He refused to force on his friend such a terrible burden, but Lancelot, learning of the proposal, spoke with Arthur. He said nothing was too big a sacrifice compared to Arthur's life and the preservation of the Round Table. Hence, a wedding was proclaimed and the witch answered Arthur's question thus: What a woman really wants, she answered....is to be in charge of her own life. Everyone in the kingdom instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth and that Arthur's life would be spared. And so it was, the neighbouring monarch granted Arthur his freedom and Lancelot and the witch had a wonderful wedding. The honeymoon hour approached and Lancelot, steeling himself for a horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But what a sight awaited him! The most beautiful woman he had ever seen lay before him on the bed. The astounded Lancelot asked what had happened. The beauty replied that, since he had been so kind to her, she would henceforth be her horrible, deformed self only half the time and the beautiful maiden the other half. Which would he prefer? Beautiful during the day....or night? Lancelot pondered the predicament. During the day, a beautiful woman to show off to his friends, but at night, in the privacy of his castle, an old witch? Or, would he prefer having a hideous witch during the day, but by night, a beautiful woman for him to enjoy wondrous intimate moments? What would YOU do? What Lancelot chose is below. BUT....make YOUR choice before you scroll down below. OKAY? Noble Lancelot said that he would allow HER to make the choice herself. Upon hearing this, she announced that she would be beautiful all the time, because he had respected her enough to let her be in charge of her own life. Now....what is the moral to this story? Scroll down The moral is.... If you don't let a woman have her own way.... Things are going to get ugly!
  10. i got a pair about 5 years ago and although they are getting pretty bare, i keep using them to break the wind and light rain. i did buy a new pair last year and to date i haven't taken them out of the bag. for the price they are a great asset in lightweight rain gear
  11. Saw this on the dryden area radio station web site, just incase someone is selling antlers, beware it is expensive An area man has been fined $2,100 unlawfully selling moose antlers. Clifford Wise of Eagle River was convicted under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and charged $1,500 for unlawfully selling moose antlers and $600 for providing false information to a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer. Court heard that during the fall of 2008, Wise was acting as a hunting guide for a Wisconsin hunter who shot and wounded a bull moose that got away from them. Wise found the carcass two weeks later and removed and took home the antlers. He later offered to sell the antlers for $500 US. In the fall of 2009, Wise sold the antlers to a plainclothes conservation officer in Vermilion Bay. The case was heard August 12 and November 16, and the verdict handed down in the Ontario Court of Justice, Dryden, on January 25.
  12. I got one last september and so i only have about 2 months of getting used to it but as the posts above state, it changes the way you can fish and the anchor button takes all the frustration out of trying to stay on a spot that is experienced with other bowmounts. got mine in winnipeg, for about $1500. it also has the universal sonar (but I don't use it).
  13. I hope this works http://server2.perfectclarity.tv/player3/player3.php?video=redboat
  14. check out stormer lake lodge on google to get their web site, it's north of Red Lake and it's a drive to camp but it has american plan and the fishing is excellent for walleye and northerns. Everyone meets at lunch at a spot on the lake for a shore lunch everyday. the boats and motors are in great condition and the meals are delicious. I don't know what their prices are like but their website should be able to provide them.
  15. I have seen a lot of posts with these emoticons but don't know how to put them in, can someone give a quick lesson to an oldtimer, please
  16. Last night the wife and I were staying in Dryden and decided to order some "chester fried chicken" . I have had this in Gimli Manitoba and it was really great, so we figured it is a chain type product, must be good in Dryden, Boy was I wrong. The chicken must have been sitting under heat lamps for a day, it was tough, dried out and very small pieces. I had one piece that looked to be a fair size and when I broke it in half to pick it apart with my fingers, it was 2 potatoes stuck together that had been battered and stuck in with the chicken. So guys and gals if you go through Dryden and you see the chicken sign at the Husky station , don't stop, the colonel is just a few blocks away.
  17. Ok guys, I have heard that Cliff lake has muskies, in fact one of my friends used to have a camp on Cliff and he told me it was the best kept secret about muskies in the area. That said, a year or two ago I saw a Fishn Canada show they did on the Indian Lake chain (near Vermilion Bay) and they had a lot of musky catches on camera, then again there's Eagle Lake and Wabigoon that are prime musky lakes. Cliff Lake is also a great lake trout lake.(and bass too), but I've never gone down the road to try it so i'm just going on hearsay from friends.
  18. I had just finished reading the posts and talking to my wife about it when we saw the informercial was starting on our tv so we watched it, talked it over and decided to give it a try. the wife calls the 800 number and gets prompts to order the magic jack but no one on the other end to talk to. so she hangs up and I went to the web site. i filled in the information and ordered one, then it proceeds tothe payment page, of course there are upgrades that can be added on, so I took the 5 year platinum plan, (another $80) and my order info comes up on thenext page complete with my cansdian mailing information and a note saying they will send an email withing an hour to confirm the order. this morning i got the confirmation email and says if there are any questions to reply to the email they sent,, so I replied that on tv they stated there was a $10.98 charge for Canadian phone lines, but on the application form there was no place to enter that.So I asked if I was getting a canadian number when I replied to their email. About 1/2 hour later I got a reply that the email was to only confirm the order and if questions were about the billing, they could be answered, if I had technical questions they referred me to http://www.magicjack.com/techchat so I clicked on that link and it goes nowhere, so I went to their home page and cliked on faq thinking it would hold the answer, it goes nowhere, then i clik on another portion of the site and it goes nowhere, now Im wondering what have i gotten into. sure hope this is worth the doubts i'm getting
  19. I saw the informercial the other day about this and have a couple questions, maybe someone out there can answer. Can you request the area code and phone exchange number ( ie. living in Red Lake area I would like a 727 or 728 number)? How would this work using a satellite internet service since it isn't as fast as high speed that is available in the city?
  20. after reading the topic title, I thought you might be one of the lucky 19 that spit the $50 million.
  21. Since I'm not a world traveller and haven't participated in any "vacation package" type deals I would like to get the opinion of you folks out there that have. The wife and I are biting the bullet and heading south (hopefully) in early february and she wants to stay at Universal Studios and with that there is an option of getting a meal plan. So I guess the question is : are they worth it? if anyone out there can help or provide suggestions, please do
  22. let me be the first to weloome you to this site, Ok guys, I have run this motor and believe me, you are taking a ride of a lifetime when it opens up without warning. I know we have some pretty good mechanics on the board so lets give poor old weatherman an idea of what the problem could be. and the motor in question is located in vermilion bay area so itisn't handy to any big city repair depots.
  23. A few weeks ago I recieved the renewal form for my next fishing and hunting licence and as usual I put it to the side to do later. Next year I will be 65 so I won't need the fishing licence so I didn't need to buy a 3 year fishing licence and I went to service ontario to see how I would go about the renewal process, they told me "just buy the outdoors card and the 3 year hunting licence option for $78.37 and then buy the fishing sticker for the one year I'll need it. So this morning I went on line and bought the card and 3 year hunting licence and printed off the elicence so I would be legal. Now the fun begins, I stopped at the local MNR district office and asked if I could get my 2011 licence there, they told me to go to the service ontario desk one floor down. I get to the service ontario desk and the line up is large so I figure i'll go the licence issuer at a local tackle shop. At that store they told me they don't have their 2011 licences so its back to service ontario. After waiting 15 minutes, the girl there closes her booth and says she's off for lunch, before she goes I ask if I can get the fishing licence there, she says yes but cash only since they aren't set up yet to accept debit or credit card payments for the upcoming year. She referred me to another local licence issuer who has the 2011 licences. I get to the local issuer and she says she has never seen an elicence and doesn't know how to deal with it. She calls the local MNR (where I was earlier) and she asks what should she do. they referred her to the girl that I talked to at MNR who it turns out has left for home, now she's really wondering what to do so I suggested she call the 800 number in the regulations that deals with the outdoors card. She does this and the person there tells her that in order for her to issue me a sticker for the 2011 fishing season, i must purchase another outdoors card and put the sticker on it. when the issuer tells her that I paid for the outdoors card this morning and have an elicence the reply was that I either buy the licence including the cost of a second outdoors card or wait until the card I bought on line arrives (15 to 20 days, according to Toronto) and then get the sticker to put on the plastic card. Essentially, I am being told to pay twice for a card or wait up to 3 weeks for the ability to fish legally. it really makes you wonder with the amazing things we have available to us these days someone could figure out a way to issue a sticker. I know people will say, why didn't i do this earlier when I got the letter in the mail but as a good procrastinator that would be tooooooooo simple.
  24. in pickle lake you don;t have the city lights to spoil the effect, (don't you have to look south in pickle to see the northern lights LOL)
  25. Well I didn't get the biggest but I might have caught the smallest!!!! One day on a wind swept bay appropriately named Bass Bay, I got, using a 2 inch minnow on a jig, a real scrapper and a rock at the same time, a 2 inch smallmouth. My camera quit working prior to the catch so I couldn't get a picture but I measured it against my little finger and it wasn't as long as my finger, but I could still lip it!!!!
