i was amazed they get 75,000 applications to do this show
  2. so i'm working midnights and i get up around noon and i'm sitting on the couch catching up on tv shows the wife has pvr'd for me. the wind starts to pick up and rain is getting heavier. just another rainy day in red lake . around 3 pm thunder starts pounding and the sky becomes black and the wind really picks up, then the tv starts to crap out with the rain blocking the satellite signal, rain starts, and comes down so hard i can't see the tourist camp across the bay (200 feet) and the wind gets stronger. this lasted for about 15 minutes then it starts to settle down to just a little rain and eventually it goes away. at 5 pm the tv screen goes red and the warning siren on the notice on the screen goes off, it says environment canada has issued at 401 eastern time a severe thunderstorm warning and possibility of a tornado for our area. it is saying take cover now. the only problem is, 401 eastern time is 301 our local central time. so the tv stations or whoever puts the warnings on BLEW it big time and missed the warning time by 2 hours. here is a picture take from downtown red lake of the storm as it was going by
  3. thats a great price, especially if it is canadian dollars. i've seen some of the tv shows that have taken place there, looks like a great spot.
  4. well i worked for Bell for 30 years and i received a lot of good stuff. for example each foreman used to get so much per employee in his group when they went accident free for a month, then after 6 months or so the foreman would use the funds to treat his employees. one time we each got a $2 plastic compass. at christmas Bell would spring for a safety calendar for all their employees. I really loved their idea of showing their appreciation of the employees that made them a billion dollars profit each year sure am glad i left that company when offered a pension after 30 years of service. now i just appreciate my pension cheque each month.
  5. got a 7 ft carrot styx and bait casting reel for xmas. can't wait to put them to the test
  6. I've fished it for 25 years in the spring, summer and fall. got muskies while fishing for walleye or trout, you just never know when they will take a liking to your bait. the biggest I have caught was a 39 incher, s few smaller but one guy inour group brought in a musky over 50 inches , too bad it was before the season started, took a long time to revive it but it eventually swam away.
  7. I'm in the position where I meet a lot of American fishermen and to listen to them, it is really an eye opener. Friends of mine from Colorado are loyal republicans and as such are ardent Trump supporters, they claim Hillary should be in jail for all her crimes. Our neighbours from Minnesota are ardent Hillary supporters and believe that Obama will go down in history as one of the best presidents in history. they tell me that if you asked any American if his/her life is better now than it was 8 years ago, they would all answer in the positive . i'm just glad we seem to have a much more efficient and polite way of electing our officials because some of the stuff i'm seeing in the elections ads in the states is really dirty.
  8. well we don't have a sail in our neck of the woods and the closest cabelas is in Winnipeg, the closest bass pro is somewhere in Calgary or maybe there is one in Saskatchewan . we do however have a fishing hole, wholesale sports and proam tackle in Winnipeg that seem to be in the ball park with their prices when compared to the big box stores. cabelas used to be a cheap alternative when ordering from the states, but with the dollar doing it's thing, that isn't economical now either.
  9. so today I went out and put a new battery in my skiff and fired up the depth finder / gps my son gave me. only one problem, it wouldn't turn on. I have power to the end of the power cord going into the unit but zip to turn it on. so I guess my son thought his problem was the puck when it really could have been the 332 unit itself. so thanks to everyone for the advice and offers of help, I guess I will put an old depth finder I have in the basement on the boat and use it for the rest of the season
  10. this is the back of the unit so you can see the connection points
  11. thanks for the offer Connie, Simon, I will check and see if my son still has his defective puck and see what it looks like if he has it. I will get back to you asap.
  12. I googled the 332 unit and came up with a manual that shows the back of the unit and the puck they are saying that goes with the unit is a LGC2000 module antenna. it also looks like it is supposed to connect to a y adapter cable before it goes into the unit itself. do you have one of the cables that connects to the unit?
  13. i'll snap a pic of the back of the unit and post it, maybe you can tell by the pic if yours will work, it should be on the thread by tomorrow
  14. i tried to find a phone number for this and Canada 411 had no listing, neither did bell directory assistance, I cannot find a web site for it either, can you provide a number to call or a web page to go to
  15. my son put a lowrance 332 on my skiff but he said the gps doesn't work because the puck (external antenae) he has doesn't work, i was wondering if any one on this site has an old one they aren't using, i don't know what they are worth so if you have one, let me know how much you would like for it. maybe we can make a deal
  16. ive seen that up here too, sometimes they just shut down and stop eating, particularly up here its after the may fly hatch and they have had their fill of larvae.
  17. i caught season 1 of game of thrones on ctv and got hooked, bought the season 1 through 5 dvd set and spent the weekend watching them, just finished season 2 tonight,. what a show, now I feel i'm getting into the cultural phenomenon.
  18. i guess i'll take the safe route and keep with the opti oil and use the other on my 20 hp .
  19. i picked up the oil yesterday, it was the premium plus oil and it says on the jug it is for oil injection and is rated better than the tcw3 . so I guess i'll use it but maybe i'll mix it with the expensive opti oil
  20. a buddy of mine gave me 2 gallon jugs of mercury 2 stroke engine oil. the store he purchased them at had them on a display that said it was opti oil, and he figured the opti engines are 2 stroke so this should be good to go. but, the oil i always buy says opti oil right on the jug, not 2 stroke. so my question is , to those who know such things , if i use this as my opti engine oil , will i screw my 150 hp opti. or should i save it to mix with gas for my 20 hp motor? any and all comments and advice gladly accepted
  21. so my buddy came in from Calgary to his cabin on eagle lake and we went for an overnight visit and fishing trip. after studying the lake maps and talking to some of the guides at the tourist camp next door, we decided we would try to hit a smaller lake that is accessed off Eagle lake. Of course our wives thought we were crazy but what the heck, they told me that this lake held bass in it and since we don't have bass in our area, i hoped to catch a couple for the fun of it after a run to the end of the lake and working our way up a creek and over a beaver dam, we got into the lake and it was gorgeous, huge rock outcrops (some of the rock walls were close to 100 feet high) and the water at the base of these was 30 feet deep 5 feet from the shore. it was a great lake with lots of structure, weed beds and rock reefs.
  22. just sitting here watching Fish TV and they are catching gar, then they put them in the live well, since we don't have gar in our area, i was wondering if you can eat this fish, they look kind of skinny to get much meat off them.
  23. thanks for the link, going to keep an eye on this one.
  24. congratulations on your sale, i am currently looking at starting the process and after having spent 26 years in the house, it is a really daunting idea of having to sell or give away 90% of my stuff. (can you see my tears), but in facing the reality of getting older and more restricted in the amount of exercise i can do, it must be a project that i have to undertake. I was surprised to see the cost of the Property guys and what you got from them. guess i won't be taking that route.
  25. A couple of old guys were golfing when one mentioned that he was going to go to Dr. Steinberg for a new set of dentures the next morning. His elderly buddy remarked that he, too, had gone to the very same dentist two years before. "Is that so?" asked the first old guy. "Did he do a good job?" The second oldster replied, "Well, I was on the golf course yesterday when a guy on the next fairway hooked a shot. The ball must have been going at least 180 mph when it slammed me right in the testicles." The first old guy was confused and asked, "What the hell does that have to do with your dentures?" "It was the first time in two years my teeth didn't hurt."
