  1. head shakes like that I'd have to say musky. Like Wayne said, stick that rod as far down the hole as you can to keep the line off the ice. Makes for a far less interesting video but odds are you land a nice fish
  2. Rizzo as in Frank Rizzo Jerky Boys character. On one of the the old formats of this board (4 or 5 years ago) I was the full Frank Rizzo. Then I went to Lakair and everyone thought it was my real name. When the format changed I dropped the "Frank".
  3. great stuff. You know fisherman are superstitious, next time I'm throwing on my Winnie the Pooh jammies and I'm heading for the shallowest water I can find...thank your daughter for the tip
  4. if you want a big spinnerbait get a trainwreck...that's about as big as they come
  5. sadly the world is not watching. People paying attention to junior hockey seems to be only a Canadian pastime. Even hockey countries like Sweden and Finland don't seem to give a you-know-what when it comes to this tourney...so they put it in Canada where the arenas will be full! I remember watching some games in past years when other countries hosted and you could practically shoot a cannon through the arena. Either way, we'll be watching what should amount to some great hockey.
  6. hahah I may take you up on that, I wasn't quite satisfied with some of the things at Brentwood. Next time I have issues I'll let you know. maybe in the spring I'll give one or two of these places a shot. As a kid i thought it was just a hoot walking along in the humber river. By late May i would be out there in just sneakers and shorts...until i discovered a little something called the lamprey eel....just gross. (When I got older I gave up on the suckers and just went on lamprey slaughters)
  7. thanks for the replies. I wonder if Lovers Creek is the one that goes through Brentwood Marine. I was getting a motor fixed there last spring and I did notice a few hanging out at the culvert
  8. I remember as a kid growing up in Etobicoke one of my favorite things was to head down to the Humber River in the spring and catch those bugle-nosed browns. They were always accomodating, you could catch them one after the other. Now that I've got young boys of my own (with very short attention spans) I wonder if anyone knows a creek around Barrie where i might take the boys for half an hour next spring. I think numbers of fish would be more important than size (although i guess a spring sucker is a spring sucker), and shore fishing would be ideal. I've tried the boys out on Simcoe in the boat for perch and they were already bored by the time we pulled away from the launch!
  9. good stuff, somebody tell that bass it is winter! Thanks for the report
  10. ok, here's one for the other team. I used a manual auger for 10 years before switching to gas and all i have to say all these manual auger boosters are INSANE. Gas powered all the way, I will never go back. I may drill 20 holes a day with the power auger or even more. If the fish aren't there, I'm moving. When I had the manual auger I'd probably stop at 10 (or risk a heart attack)! While I've punched holes and set up lines in minutes, I then break out the hibachi, light it up, wait for the coals, cook up some t-bones, eat 'em and watch the manual auger guys who are still getting set up. Once set up, many don't want to move because of the work involved. I can honestly say the gas auger was one of the best fishing purchases I ever made, my only regret was waiting so long to do it.
  11. here I thought you had to be a midget with a case of beer
  12. ...not sure how big that is but I'm assuming pretty small
  13. I pretty much turn and run when the wind shifts (and here I thought the guys with the cover were sissies)
  14. that fish is neat, but the boat....oi vey
  15. that was great Brian, thanks for the laugh
  16. I used to use them but we have a bajillion pike in our lake and they tear 'em apart (ie bite the tail off and there goes the action)
  17. I refuse to sell anything of value to family or friends for the exact same reason. I don't want it blowing up on them 2 weeks later even though it was fine for me. I didn't see how much you paid for it...that will determine how bad a deal this was I guess. Hard to complain if you only paid a few hundred bucks. And if you know the guy well, he should be willing to take it back assuming you have barely used it.
  18. might have been me. I travel with all my awards all the time...oh wait a minute, never been to Quinte
  19. a very nice tribute Brian, my condolences
  20. right on, nice looking fish
  21. bass and muskie closed too
  22. guess I'm paranoid but I'm rarely on the water after dark, and if I am, its barely faster than trolling speed so I can hear what's going on around me. Its not rocks I'm afraid of, its people who show little concern for their own or others safety...maybe you guys just proved I'm not so paranoid after all! At that speed no way could you avoid the drunk guy or teenage lovebirds who have gone out for a late night paddle. As a funeral director who has looked after many dead cottagers, I hope people learn from this post
  23. I says pardon?? After reading that report, you my friend have a very warped sense of "fun". I agree with Joey's assessment of 32 loons (good one joey by the way). Nonetheless, I give you credit for your commitment to the sport!
  24. that is a very respectable pike too, nice job (and a bit of luck not getting bit off)
  25. doughboy, thanks for posting that brute. What a sweet fish. I'm trying to imagine how big that fish would look with a regular sized human holding it. Any update on how it was caught (trolling? depth?). One thing I forgot to mention is that ours was caught in around 23 feet of water
